The song/MV always reminded me of the graphic novel/movie "I Kill Giants" which is about a girl imagining her horrible trauma as huge, terrifying monsters.
Chanhyuk is a phenomenal lyricist: the song, upon closer listening, is definitely about childhood trauma, too - possibly a happy family falling into debt, and the children not understanding the situation, and blaming some imaginary monster for windows being broken and the like, when it's more likely loan sharks (a major issue in Korea) breaking stuff to scare the parents into paying up. But the kids, being naïve, try to be brave and promise the next time the dinosaur roars, they'll just roar back louder...
It's a pretty heartbreaking song, actually.
Yeah I get what u said. Actually the first time that I got to read the lyrics and interpret what they were trying to say I confess that my first impression was that the music talks about pedophilia. I dont really know where did I got this from but di really make sense to me back then. Nowadays I just can see two brother living in a toxic enviroment and most probably living a childhood trauma.

AKMU are treated like musical prodigies in Korea. They were discovered on an audition program called Kpop Star. They didn't go through the Korean training system. They did train but they weren't expected to be typical idols. Chanhyuk composed and wrote everything and Suhyun's voice is just perfection. They've been slaying charts since they debuted at 18/15 years old.
Growing up Lee Suhyun and Chanhyuk's family was dirt poor and they even were homeless for a short time. "Dinosaur" is about how they have learned to overcome the pain and hardship of their childhood. The "dinosaur" represents the debt collectors who they were constantly afraid of who would threaten to take away their home or demand payment, etc. When you see them scream at the world it is supposed to show how they are now taking control of the situation and are no longer going to live in fear. Now as famous singer/songwriters they are supporting their family. After growing up poor, Lee Suhyun is very well off and Lee Chanhyuk is rich, and they no longer have to worry about debut collectors. Lee Chanhyuk makes more money because he is the songwriter so he makes more off the song royalties. If you like their MVs, you have to see and hear them live. Their vocals live are even more angelic.

Fun fact: dinosaur is the only kpop song my mom loves! I always play it for her when she’s feeling down.
Akmu consists of Lee Chanhyuk and Lee Soohyun. And Soohyun, the girl, is actually younger than her brother. Chanhyuk, just recently finished his military service; which is kinda unique for a kpop idol to do their service this early on in their career (he’s 23 years old). And they already had their comeback a couple weeks ago with ‘How Can I Love The Heartbreak, You’re The One I Love’. Also, Chanhyuk writes and composes basically all of their songs (maybe even produces them? Idk really know about that).
A bit of background info on ‘Dinosaur’: it’s a song about their childhood. Their parents, if I’m not wrong, had problems with debt-collectors (if that’s the right word?), and they would visit them at their home and were pretty intimidating. And I believe they were frightened by dinosaurs when they were children, so the dinosaurs could be a metaphor for these debt-collectors.

Reasons why you should love AKMU, the lyrics to their song always has that double meaning. Like it tells a story. Chanhyuk is amazing not just as a singer but also as a composer, Suhyun has that amazing voice. If you watch them live they’re literally *eating CD’s for breakfast* their personalities are absolutely loveable and adorable as well. ALL OF THEIR SONGS ARE AMAZING!! I swear!! I like how all of you can just love good music, totally agree with you that you don't have to sensationalize music with sex or that kind of imagery (yes there is a place for it, but doesn't have to be all the time), there can be just good music for its own sake. I know there is an age gap between brother and sister (like 3 years difference). They were discovered on an audition show called Kpop Star Season 2 in 2012, he was about 16-17 and she was around 13-14 during the program so very young. They had been previously living in Mongolia with their parents, homeschooled and he had written like 40+ songs with his sister and they knew them all by heart and could sing them all. They are signed to the YG label which is the same company as Big Bang. JYP also wanted them and the companies could see that this young duo had so much potential in the music industry. He definitely writes most of the music but I know that she can also take part in the process or with the lyrics. You should see the sister singing the cover of Speechless from the Aladdin movie, it is probably my favourite cover of that song (ua-cam.com/video/N2gqSg8sXns/v-deo.html). Please check it out for fun while you are looking them up on your own time :o) Love the clarity in her voice.
Finally Akmu!!! Their new album sailing is amazing! Edit: also I think this particular song is about being a child and having scary people come to your house (debt collectors etc) and feeling powerless and growing up and taking back your power. Definitely look up the lyrics for this one 🙌🏻

No, they’re not twins. Chan-hyuk is 23 and Su-hyun is 20 years! So there’s a 3 year difference in their age. Chan-hyuk is naturally a very protective older brother which is normal and you can tell he takes really good care of his sister despite them always teasing each other. In fact, when Chan-hyuk decided to enlist in the military 2 years ago. He wrote a lot songs just for Su-hyun so she can have a solo while he was away doing his military service. He’s so thoughtful!
They joined KPOPSTAR season 2 which was basically an audition/survival show that included the top 3 entertainment companies and their ceo/musical executive producers as the coaches/judges, which was YG, JYP, and SM. KPOPSTAR season 1 gave birth to lovely vocal powerhouse Jimin Park (won the show and chose JYP), Lee Hi (soulful voice and chose YG ), and Lee Seung Hoon (PERFORMANCE ARTIST/DANCER/RAPPER who is now known as HOONY in WINNER who is also in YG). AKMU and well known YG trainee and soon to be debut in his own boy group Bang Yedam was discovered on season 2. Both very young artists with so much talent and potential. AKMU and Yedam went on to the finals and went head to head, with AKMU winning the show. AKMU and Yedam obviously both chose to sign with YG.
AKMU does compose, arrange, and write their own music. They’re so witty and their lyrics is just sooooo beautiful and meaningful as well. Songs like “Melted” and “Dinosaur” is very heartfelt and describes as you said how a very cruel world and crush such pure/innocent souls. However? if only there’s more understanding and compassion in this world..we can melt even the coldest of coldest hearts. We can make a difference with all these acts of kindness and understanding.

BTW early in their career in 2014 they won this Korea's Talent award that began in 2001 by the Korean Ministry of Education and the Korea Foundation for the Achievement of Science and Creativity to encourage the talents that will lead the future development of Korea. Seems the award organisers said that Lee Chan Hyuk received the award because he is “a talented singer-songwriter of the sibling acoustic duo Akdong Musician that has turned around the market from the monotonous idol music with refreshing melodies and lyrics.
And with their recent 'grown up' release album Sailing these siblings have sure matured... so proud of them!

Yes, Akmu!!! Together with Mamamoo they're my ultimate Kpop groups. They're just so talented. By the way, their songs are all written and composed by the brother (Lee Chan Hyuk). He was making songs for the duo ever since he was 16 when they participated in Kpop Star (kind of like American Idol) and won. I hope you get to watch Melted. The song and the MV are absolute art.

Lol they actually one of the most savage duos and are high key disgusted with each other half the time. It’s kind of great. They’re not twins and are a lot older than they look here. This song is actually about their childhood though and the struggles their family had. I'm glad you all reacted to this. AKMU has great songs about social issues, such as Play Ugly (about beauty standards) and Melted (about global prejudice and humanity). Dinosaur, despite the carefree electro-house vibe, is no different. It's about AKMU’s childhood, and specifically the bad dreams that Chanhyuk (the bro) used to have, which included those with dinosaurs. The dinosaurs are a metaphor for debt collectors who used to trash their house in order to instill fear (such as breaking windows to intimidate their parents). As many may (or not) know, AKMU’s family used to be very poor, enough that eventually they had to move to Mongolia for a while to escape Korea’s more expensive lifestyle. Therefore, these dinosaurs that haunted Chanhyuk’s dreams represented their family’s struggle and the debtors who caused them fear. The song itself paints such a childhood trauma tinted with the light-hearted innocence of youngsters and their own explanation of what they don't know (in this case, the issue of adults in debt) through the use of their imagination as a way to cope with it. They mention in a part of the lyrics, "You broke down our window
, You roared at my family, If I see you again, Then, I’m gonna shout louder than you" (referencing the aforementioned practice of breaking windows). As for the video, it pays homage to Stranger Things yes, but also Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park and yes, EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHERS THINK OF OWL CITY'S FIREFLIES WHEN THEY HEARD THIS. So did I, hahaha. Both songs have their own merit and are awesome in their own way, no denying that. :D
