  • Lady Diana's style isn't for me, but that doesn't mean I can't draw some second-hand inspiration from her fashion sense. Whether you're looking to switch up your capsule wardrobe or just refresh your style a bit, I dig through depop for polka dots, cottagecore collars, cape dresses and crowns to create some outfits for 2022. Oh, and don't forget the titties and tartan.

As Leena commented on, was Diana able to pick out many of her own clothes? Or was this more of a political message conveyed by those who directed her life? That sounds like a super interesting thesis project. 🙂

i am just gonna take a second to BEG you to do a Fran Fine (as played by Fran Drescher) outfit inspired lookbook. she feels straight up your alley (and if you like Friends, youll probably like The Nanny. its another 90s comedy sitcom centered around relationships and found family. its about as equally as problematic as Friends but leaning more so towards Golden Girls in approach, if that makes sense). i just feel like youd really enjoy her wardrobe and find you probably share a lot of the same pieces
if none of that convinces you: uh, well i didnt wanna have to pull the Big Guns out, but she does have a very Maximalist Super Loud wardrobe and wears a LOT of leopard print lmao
(ps. also Living Single is amazing if you liked Friends. anyway, proceed)

I find the fact that you show your belly, very encouraging, normalizing. Inspiring! All the good things. I am rather petite and naturally slender, no great curves happening on me front or back, but I have a belly. And have had since a late teen (so did my Mom) and after I found out I was pregnant (this was over 2 years ago) a family friend kept questioning me if I was actually pregnant sooner because she noticed my belly, dismissed me when I stated I've always had it. Sometimes it's smaller, sometimes it's bigger, sometimes it's what I'm eating, or my cycle. I appreciate it more now after having my daughter, but I'm still trying to love that part of me. Most of all, if my daughter winds up having one, I want her to love herself. I was often told to suck it in.
    Thank you for showing/sharing. 💚

@11:22 I had no idea what "fanny" slang meant in the UK! In North America fanny means bum (and often considered to be a more "elegant" way of saying butt or ass), therefore a "fanny pack" ultimately means a bum bag (a bag or pack you carry on your bum).

Loved both the tartan outfits, you did a great job with the jacket/top! Actually rather liked the last one (though agree it would look ace with the tartan trousers), the crown thing looked lovely on you, almost ethereal rather than royal, it would look perfect with a flowing, summer, 'prance around in a field of flowers', elven type look.

Leena, you should have a “Dressing Like Influential Women Through History” series, using mostly your own wardrobe + a few thrifted items as supplements. You could do lots of women that aren’t really your “style” at first glance but you still find inspo from. Maybe women known for different things like Jackie Kennedy, Frida Kahlo, Margaret Thatcher, etc

with the spotted top, if you are not confident, you could always support a local buisness and take it your nearby tailor to see if they can alter it? im poor at sewing, so i end up going to the local Ma&Pop Alterations Shop if i need help in making whatever garment something i will actually wear (and, for what ive asked for anyway which is simple hem-lines and tear-repairs and "sew up my wrap skirt halfway please so i stop almost flashing people in the wind", it's cost me at that shop in particular $12, $3, and $5 respectively). they probably have some knowledge about how to release that hem due to their expertise that they can suggest to you, beyond my initial ideas of "cut just above that point and hem it" and "maybe just take out/undo whatever is making that area so restrictive". if you want to make it something you'll wear more often, why not spend a few extra dollars asking an expert to help you?
anyway, i love the video and the disection on Diana's sense (or lack thereof) of fashion!! ithink my favorite was tartan (that jacket iS SO CUTE) and, with no irony, the first sweatshirt "biker shorts" one. the last one, admittingly, was mostly because thANK GOD for you introducing me to those Undersummer shorts in a previous video. i have my first pair and i am HUNGRY for more since i know im going to wear this one pair to shreds if i do not; not chaffing my thighs was a sensation i could not recall. thank you, thank you, thank you ♡

My favorite was the outfit you made. I would totally wear that. Same with the tartan trousers. Personally think a white polka dot would work better with the collar, maybe? But a stand-alone collar is GENIUS. These giant collar shirts are super fun but I feel like they will be a short-lived trend, as they were in the 80s.

Sometimes I do wear it down and out which I like but inevitably I get too hot after about an hour and tie it up again. So...any chance of a simple but not ponytail hairstyle ideas video? You should cut the bottom off that white top with black spots! Looks like it might just be gathered at the bottom so you could make it less restrictive. I just did that to a skirt I had where the waist band of it was to restrictive, now it has a handy elastic top 😂

    A) Diana's polka dot and collar look says to me kindergarten teacher, or really smart, PhD mum -definitely academic play in some way.
    B) Awesome dalmation outfit! The highlighting makeup you have on, or however you have that awesome glow, looks absolutely lovely and polished with the white clothes you've worn. The sharp contrast of white and black looks even more enchanting!
    C) Am I crazy to imagine that outfit with fishnets? Are they annoying to wear, or...? Eh.
    D) Those white jeans... Um, am I even more nutty to imagine them in a peach color, like the blouse you put on next? Or maybe a kind of vertical pattern of tie dye in blue or purple?
    E) Do you like green, or is green maybe the rightful partner of some pretty specific motifs for you? I have been wondering this for a while. I am aware that green clothes are comparatively rare, from the awkward history of green dye, the checkered symbology of the color, and the difficulty in matching green tones with skin tones (a task just as difficult as finding the best red lipstick). That acid dyes significantly expanded the range of green tones in clothes, and yet remain famous for their lack of pleasing undertones, is a difficulty not to be understated. Why am I talking about this again?

Love watching your videos you have such great ideas it is a joy. Also gotta say I'm glad you said about Diana's clothing not having like a through line I'm in a play and my character is described in the script as "Sloane Ranger type" which when I asked wtf does that mean someone said 'like Princess Di' but being that I don't have an eye for fashion I thought it was just me that found that suggestion unhelpful in knowing what my character would wear (vile human, upper middle class or posh but not royals posh)
Speaking of amazing outfits though have you ever watched The Good Life? Would doing a Margo Leadbetter inspired fashion vid be something you might consider? Penelope Keith's wardrobe in that was legend and considering the Tom and Barbara sustainability-before-we-called-it-that-ethos going on next door thought a 2nd hand clothing version of that would be quite the juxtaposition!

My feelings towards cycling shorts are similar to yours :D Wearing them makes me feel like I'm 8 years old again. It's not "Diana's style" it's every 90s child style :D :D

Also, I will defend calling it a fanny pack, because where do you wear the bag? Not over your bum, that's for certain.
