Thor: The Dark World is the prime example of a meh Marvel movie. While it is technically...fine, a lot of elements feel dull, chief among them being the film’s villain, Malekith.
So in this video, I take a shot at giving Malekith an opportunity to do something interesting and using that change to give another character a more meaningful end.

One punch mans cool
Love One Punch Man. Read the manga Nando.
OH MY GOD. I JUST PUT THAT TOGETHER.
Nando v Movies no fricking way, I didn’t even think that far ahead
Obligatory:
"If you're from Svartalfheim, why do you sound like you're from the North?"
"Lots of realms have a North."
Haha! The ears are a bit big ...
I understood that reference!
Because in North Mythology Svartalvenheim was home of the Black Elves .. who live underground most of the time and are masters at the forge.

How to fix Thor: The Dark World.
Step 1: Add color
Step 2: *Don't give your talented actors a piece of cardboard as a script*
Cogniferous well, its called the DARK World After all..
Yeah use paper
How did the writers of Endgame write this?
Some facts.
The best thing about Maleketh is that he’s under such heavy prosthesis and makeup that no one remembers that Christopher Eccleston was in this movie
Yeah I didn't recognize him
WAIT WHAT IT'S ECCLESTON???
Barely
@@NandovMovies Yeah, that is super weird - Honestly would have never guessed. Also, thank you for this video, it is a blessing and your concepts are just my favorite
He said it himself in an interview that he was in just for the money. I cannot believe how they turned one of the best Doctor Who into a bland and forgetable villain
I always found it funny how much more intimidating and powerful Kurse was than Malekith. And he hardly spoke.
Have you ever seen the video where a guy edited all of Malekith's lines out of the movie? It makes him so much more intimidating.
@@NandovMovies I haven't seen that, but I'm definitely gonna check it out. Sounds intriguing! One of my main gripes with Malekith was how he talked so much but did so little. Too much bravado.
Edit: Just checked it out. Looks a billion times better than the original.

Thor: "I'm going to go inside and stop it"
Loki: "But you'll be killed"
Thor: "Only if I die!"
“Yes that’s what killing you means” making that a callback in infinity war before Thor gets stormbreaker and is talking to the giant dwarf
That's what I was thinking too lol
"People die if they are killed..."
You thought killing me would be enough to make me die?
"Yes...that's what...killing you means."
I actually like this version making Malekith a Loki mirror.
The biggest thing they missed with Malekith was what makes Loki a crowd-pleaser. Malekith is witty and funny. He's a trickster who wants you to die (whereas Loki just wants to stab you a bit and laugh it off over beers).
I seriously think the people at Marvel should hand over the script to nando so that he can make small changes to improve it, his video about far from home is perfect
Replace the EDITH glasses with iron spider suit, it makes so much more sense that the actual movie, same for his video on endgame, in it he have nebula be the one who is passing the gauntlet to tony, referencing the earlier football game he played with tony.
Some facts.
Actually having Odin in battle is what the films need. Some of the preproduction animatics actually had Odin as a badass but never included them in the films.
Jackson Yang maybe that should be something for third Thor movie
@@srstriker6420 third thor movie being...Ragnarok?
Tumi Mamabolo yes the real Ragnerok
After hearing about Malekith’s comic book counterpart, it’s really puzzling how the writers turned him into a walking pill of Ambien. His character lends itself very well to the quippy style of humor that MCU loves to have in their movies. Did they think the audience would confuse him with Loki halfway through if he showed a shred of personality?
They would probably complain and say “ why would they malekith like Loki they could’ve just had Loki” then again they could learn that Malekith is sassy. But idk. I was shocked too I didn’t know malekith had sass
Mega Ultra Hindsight. This is Nando's Ultra Instinct moment.
The dark world: why do I hear boss music?
More like his talk no jutsu
“Oh Thorrr... what have you done?”
Even this one line gave more personality to Malekith than the actual movie 🤦♂️
Oh Thor... Why?
I too find it difficult to tell who's saying the line in some of the scenes he describes
Here's another change I would have made:
The Convergence isn't happening now by coincidence, it's a direct result of Loki using the Space Stone in New York not long ago. This convergence is a result of Yggdrasil trying returning to normal.
It bothered me that this 5000 year cycle triggered events 14 billion (?) Years in the making... Coincidentally soon after an unnatural wormhole was opened above earth to the other end if the universe.
Greg Elchert Except the way Coulson came back turned out to have major consequences for everyone in that show. Plus the movies still haven’t brought him back in.
That's a great one.
Every dig on Jean Grey is so cold...and then, so accurate.
The fact that they wasted a really solid cast that resembles the characters pretty well with that mess and Apocalypse will always make me mad.
In the comics, Malekith is basically Loki without any redeeming traits and even more unhinged. And it's great, especially since Loki is now an anti-hero.
Nando: *makes malekith matter*
Me: Wait, that’s illegal.
Alternative take: put the aether in Loki and force Thor to deal with his complicated feelings with a ticking clock.
Loki would be no match for anyone then
In eighteen minutes, you did the impossible -- you made "Thor The Dark World" better.
I would say he fixed it
Better is easy. Making it more forgettable would be the impossible
Charles Lee to give a villain that deserves better
You think its impossible to make "The dark World" better?
Kevin Smith well I thought it would be
You should do something like this for Ronan the Accuser in GOTG
Oooooh that's a good one.
I thought Ronan was fine, personally. Sure he’s kinda generic, but it works well for the goofy, colorful cast of heroes to go up against a dark and serious supervillain.
Silvershire Idk I feel it would definitely help the movie if the villain was an actual character
IantheGamer what about whiplash?
@Greg Elchert Time to bring out Mega Ultra Hindsight!
This unironically sets up Ragnarok even more, just killing so many of these same warriors for a laugh.
TKB so you want a Thor Ragnarok rewrite?
@@srstriker6420 No, I'm saying that this sets up the departure from the Thor norm even better than it previously did.
TKB the Thor norm?
Just when I was getting this weird urge to rewatch this movie.
I tried, but it fades into the background..... the only part I pay attention on is when Jane on Asgard aka Endgame
Elton Chung yeah but actually Natalie Portman didn’t star in the film because that scene in Endgame was a deleted scene in Thor The Dark World
If Eccleston ever wants to do another mcu project again, its such a good thing this movie is completely forgotten so that he can do something really cool
Ok Thor Dark World was like my second MCU movie and it helped me fall in love with Loki and the relationship between Thor and Loki. That being said understand why it's forgotten even though I adore it.
I love it so much - Loki's been my favorite since the beginning and so much happens for him in this movie ;_; Plus, seeing Tom being able to have actual screen time is so much fun and there's actual interaction between him and Hemsworth and BAH I just love it -- it's so great

The only thing important to come out of the movie were the Aether and the death of Thor's Mother.

I would have used Loki’s secret “hide from Heimdell” smuggling route to introduce the mirror dimension. The final battle should have been a 2v2 of Loki & Thor vs Kurse and Malekith. Loki fights Malekith, but can’t handle his raw mystical power. Thor fights Kurse, but his overpowered in raw strength. Then they swap opponents, Thor is able to power through Malekith’s magic, while Loki is able to take down Kurse through trickery.
Malekith was a 3 dimensional villain in Alan Taylor's director's cut of Thor: The Dark World. He's already shown dismay at the way Disney cut his original version of the movie.
Well, Malekith was a casualty of last minute rewrites. The entire midsection, with Loki and Thor escaping Asgard and confronting Malekith, was written by an uncredited Joss Whedon, and as Loki got added, Malekith was slowly pared down to almost nothing. You can't blame them, this was just after Avengers made $1.5 billion and everyone was sure talking about that Loki after that film hit big!
Personally, all the added Loki stuff is the highlight of this movie, for me so I couldn't care less that it was to the detriment of Malekith. I'd rather have more Loki than a fleshed out version of Eccleston's Malekith. For the record, I think Chris Eccleston is a terrific actor but he's pretty bad in this, something that he himself acknowledged in interviews fairly recently.
As to Alan Taylor, well what's his excuse with Terminator Genisys, which he also directed? Because if that's what happens when he gets final cut, then I am glad Disney/Marvel interfered and wrestled Dark World away from him! I know it's not the best film, but it's not even close to being as awful as Genisys!
Sorry, I didn't mean to type this much. Hoipe someone enjoys reading this, anyway!
Man, I could just picture Malekith's comic-like smile as you spoke his lines.
You know why I love your videos so much?
It’s not just fixing movies by adding epic moments that enhance the narrative. You also add in amazing character moments that balance out clever philosophical tones and consistency with their history/personalities.
Marvel would be fools not to hire you as a writer.
Keep up the amazing videos!
Ok I'm just going to be that guy; I really liked the Dark World
Okay just imagine sassy malekith and sassy Loki arguing and saying one sarcastic line after other. Imagine that. I would love that.
Loved it. Also appreciated that you gave Sif and the Warriors Three some more to do. Locked them in the first movie, and still not over how they never mattered again and were killed off so unceremoniously in Ragnarok.
Made a reddit post on your sub about Malekith a few months back, trying to fix him. I was going to do 3 other small changes about Dark World, but between my kid having to share the computer with me and work, haven't really gotten around to it. Glad to see you're taking on Dark World on your channel.
I would love for you to try and fix Avengers Age of Ultron

@@dcmarvelcomicfans9458 I agree, it really helps Malekith while bringing the best part of Dark World more into focus.

Your Malekeith voice alone is a 10/10 for me
There’s one major problem with this new version: Thor doesn’t get anything cool to do in the finale. If Odin gets the kill, and Loki gets the sacrifice, then Thor is pretty much a passenger in his own film, or just as important as someone like Fandral.
Thor’s finale can’t be “tries to contain the aether” - that sounds like an unsatisfying CGI mess, unfortunately. He’s got to get his somehow.
One of the few MCU movies where the color grading and cinematography are actual creative
My favorite rewrite you've made so far, love it.
I love this. You're essentially making Loki the main protagonist of the movie. I know you say you're using super hindsight here, but it isn't hard to imagine that a great filmmaker could have come up with something similar if they had taken that approach - and it's not a stretch to think they could have taken that approach at the time. Loki was far more popular than Thor then.
Anyone else forget that Zachary Levi was in these movies before Shazam?
His malekith voice sounds like the king from doraleus and associates
Woah I’m hype to see how you pull this off

Hey Nando! I loved this video, I especially love what you did with Loki.
I have a pitch idea for you though:
If you were to make an Avengers movie that takes place between Infinity War and Endgame (think Avengers 3.5), how would you make it?
I feel like this is a great opportunity to show the remaining Avengers trying to protect a world spiralling out of control. Not to mention, this is an opportunity to show Hulk's development. I thought this would be a cool thing to try.
Great video BTW, cheers.
You are super enthusiastic in this vid

The movie with space elves fighting space vikings! I really enjoyed this one. Especially the aestetic feel it has.
WOAH. That Dark Phoenix slam right out the gate. Golden.
Excellent as always!
reckon they'll ever do an extended cut where they put all Eccleston's missing scenes back in?
What I want to see one day (maybe in Secret Wars, maybe in a spin-off of some sort), is all the forgettable or underused villains get a chance to be more interesting. Malekith, Ronan, Yellowjacket, Iron Monger, Justin Hammer, Abomination, etc. Not necessarily all of them, but I think the idea could work for a villain team in a timeline-bending story. Bouncing off each other would give them a chance for more characterization.
Awesome job, dude. Much love.
You should make a mini video for the play at the start of Thor ragnorock
I think it's interesting how you imply the film makers changed malakith to be less like loki so as not to have two copys of the same character then made the same and employed foils. That's just so cool and interesting, how you can have confusion but with a few small changes in delivery and arc and it becomes a narrative foil. I just-yes. You did foils well in this vidio, yay!
I would like to point out that your hyper hindsight perfectly sets up the Portals scene in Endgame by showing us the reverse of that scene, by having the bad guy summon some creatures to help him using portals.
Oh damn! That's right.
@@NandovMovies In this alternate Nando-run universe, Thor's smile at seeing everybody arrive to help now has more meaning.
"So that's what it's like!"
Awesome! I’d def watch this.
Dang bro, congrats on 222k. U’ve earned it

Wow this is something I've been struggling with, I also like to see if I can tweak some movies to make them better but when I hit the Dark World, Malekith was kind of hard, so I focused more plot-wise and the idea was that the whole film would be a true Norse adventure through the Nine Realms, The warriors 3 and Sif would have more character development so that they aren't just fodder for Hela later and Jane would be there too and yes Loki comes with. Cause that's what I always enjoyed about Thor and when the movie took place in London a lot I was kind of bummed out.
I always loved the entire 9 Realms in Marvel because they were very flushed out as unique locations in all of comic books and yet we barely get glimpses into them. I would have had this movie take place crossing over the 9 Realms and dealing with the most formidable characters and creatures in those realms. It would have been an epic movie like Lord of the Rings.
Every single Marvel video you do makes my wish to see you become an actual writer at the MCU become stronger. You nail it every time!

Thanks for the warning about mispronunciations. I was prepared to catch any you made, but there were very few, and they were all very minor and/or only happened once or twice. The MCU seems to want to pronounce the Aether "EE-ther," for example.
Svartalfheim is one I expected you to trip over, but you got that mostly right.
Awesome storytelling, and great dialogue. I'm usually a bit iffy about listening to the dialogue you give characters, but you do Thor and Loki really well. The "Monsters Assemble" thing is a great callback (or callforth, I guess?) that's also sufficiently outside War of the Realms where people probably wouldn't instantly make the connection and realize, "Wait, this predicts the FUTURE...."
Bravo.

I love how you make the dark phoenix comparisons as if thor 2 ripped off dark phoenix even though thor 2 came out first
This really make the movie better, way better. But at same time, feels like a Loki movie, more than the original. And like Taika says in Ragnarok press, Thor has to be the most awesome part about he’s movie.
I thought the same thing, how about Thor (and maybe Loki) backs up Odin and team up against Malekith's reality bending powers, the All Father creates an opportunity for Thor to finish him off in a super dramatic finisher maybe by using Malekith's portals against him as Odin is very distracting and being taken out by theatrics rather than brute force would be appropriate, plus it shows that Thor has become more clever like Loki. (I don't know Odin's abilities too well, but I would really like it if they can make Thor shine more somehow)
Jake Smith This make sense. Because the way how the video put, basically make the 3 acts being solved by Loki. What make Thor itslef really useless.
We could exchange the roles, Loki and Thor killing Malekith, with Loki using magic to trick the portals while Thor use his brute power to strike him. And Loki “fake death” comes as a chance to Thor finish him. And the thing about hold the Aether goes with Odin, because he is a freaking All Father.
Giving Odin something to do in a Thor movie other than die shouldn’t be as revolutionary as it is
AY-ther is stabbing me in the ears with every instance of its utterance
End Credit: Loki soul travels to this planet and his soul goes past a man in a cloak (never see his face)...his soul goes into a dark mist but in the middle of the mist a yellow orange light form while other souls enter the mist and the yellow orange light gets bigger and covers the screen and done...those who not catching on...yes it will be the soul stone
Can't wait for you fixing X-Men: Dark Phoenix, ever i never saw the movie at all.
Billy McCrary I hope that he brings in Jason wyngrade aka Mastermind
Late to the party, but I would've love adding Hawkeye to the movie. Winter Soldier was the only Solo OG Avenger film that featured another OG Avenger and I'm surprised IM3 And Thor 2 didn't do the same thing, like pair up Tony and Bruce(short cameo) and Thor and Clint. It would explain why Shield or the Avengers didn't come to help because Clint was experiencing the same symptoms Selving had post-mind control. Clint and Jane will come to the agreement to not involve Shield, because Jane hates Shield from the last movie and Clint doesn't want them to know that he's not 100% and could put other missions in jeopardy. This would give Clint more time to develop and we can learn that he also has a jerky brother named Barney (amalgamation of Swordsman, OG Trick Shot, and Barney Barton) who can be a part of the Masters of Evil in your version of Avengers 2.
no joke but your version gives me chills. it actually make me feel something great compared to the actual movie
