  • For my second warp I decided to try floating selvedges.
if you aren't familiar with floating selvedges, they are an extra yarn thread on the outside n each side that doesn't form part of the pattern and helps you get neat edges with twills without worrying about the sections of the twill pattern that don't 'catch' the edge.
I also experimented with some different twills.
    Do you use floating selvedges?
    What is your favourite twill?

Your selvedges are getting really good! A tip when winding the cardboard pins or bobbins etc for on boat shuttles is to wind quite tightly to get a firm bundle and to leave an inch or so clear at each end, moving fractionally further towards the middle as you go, forming an ellipse. This prevents the yarn slipping off the edges and getting tangled.

I think I've managed it with some of them, but sometimes when I pull firmly it stops turning so it can be tricky can't it!!

It certainly can! Gets easier with practice!

I’ve had the same problem with 1 of my shuttles but not the other so it wasn’t the actual winding in the cardboard bobbin. I solved the problem by putting tiny little washers on either end of the stick ( one before the bobbin one after). Problem solved and is now zooming across my loom and not catching on that any more

@@Delldgm oh that's interesting! I have a load of washers somewhere, so I'll try that! Thanks for the tip!! 😀
