I have always said Hermes are marketing geniuses. They have consumers in a chokehold trying to prove to the brand that they are good enough to spend their money at Hermes. Genius!
yes! It works only so well though because people are so deeply into their status anxiety that they think they need a kelly or birkin as a symbol to prove that they are "better than the plebs", special and worthy. Instead of running countless times to the Hermes store they could try therapy hahaaha

OMG, I am so glad you made this video! Starting to feel like I may be the only person who isn’t on a “Birkin or Kelly journey.” Feels like so many luxury people on UA-cam are doing “journey” or unboxing videos, and I’m honestly just bored. I fully appreciate the artistry, craftsmanship, and quality. I would never pay the price tags, new or preloved. Beyond that, the style is not for me. Just had to comment because I said “yes” out loud when I saw your video title! 😂❤
You are not alone!! I feel like there just aren't many places for those of us who aren't into them. And I so agree that the luxe community has gotten 'boring' in that sense. So many creators go the H route and never look back, while their audiences won't have that on their horizons!
Omg! I agree with everything you mentioned. I find Hermes bags boring. Nothing excites me about their bags. The only thing I like from the brand are their silk scarves. It is pushed so much on social media to the point where I started to think that I needed to start the ‘journey’ to ‘complete’ my bag collection but I had to stand firm. It isn’t the luxury brand for me and that is ok. Great video ❤

I love the color range (bold, not neutral) of their bags, but will live perfectly without one in my collection. The only thing I want from the brand is the Mosaic coaster that may have been discontinued. I watch videos because I tend to want to hear what people allowed themselves to go through for the sake of securing the bag. It boggles my mind, most times, the amount of consumption to be 'chosen' for a dream bag that one fears wearing and sits on a shelf being admired. Great topic and appreciate the candid perspective.
I have the sushi plate for my bracelets and I love it. It's the perfect accessory for my bag shelf.

That part in Minks for all video cracked me up too 😂 I like the kelly, but I genuinely love the style of a Lady Dior. It wouldn’t make sense for me to spend 2x the amount on a bag that I like half as much. I think more people should be honest with themselves about WHY they want that bag

I completely agree with you on all of your points. I TRY to find a Hermes bag to pull the trigger on but there is something about each of the bags that just doesn't work for me. The Hermes bag that comes the closest to one I WOULD buy is the mini Lindy but I just can't with that one either. I need a top reach bag with a crossbody strap and I hate guitar straps so the Evelyn doesn't work for me. There is just some element to each bag that is a big NO for me. Thank you for your honesty.
Agree 1000%! I have no desire for a Birkin or Kelly. I like the look of the Constance, but not enough to play the Hermes game. BTW, when you get ready to sell your Fendi 3way, or twist lock, or whatever it's called, I'm here! 😊
I like the look of the Constance too, but the clasp is very fussy and makes me nervous. I know myself and I would love a vintage one or one in shiny Box leather but the way the clasp flips up I know I would scratch it.
Great video! I agree with many of your points in this video. The style of the handbags are boring! I am also bored to tears. The quality and colors are unmatched, but that’s all they offer. And while that’s enough for some, it’s not for me (and that’s okay).
The price point is outlandish! I think it’s insane to go through a quota system just to receive an offer to spend another $12k on a bag in a color you don’t even want! WTF!!!

I am too casual and “hippie” for a structured Kelly or Birkin and I am not a fan of the fussy closure, so I was leaning to the Evelyne but the price seems crazy for such a simple bag and I am not sure I LOVE it. I think I feel like I am supposed to want it and this helped me realize, I just don’t. Maybe if the Evelyne was half the price? I think I like the Loewe Flamenco in the Oak color better, high price but much more substance and a casual look that works for me. And I can buy it anywhere and online!
What's weird is that hippie and boho are not my vibe AT ALL. I love structure, I love vintage, and I love top handles - this should be right up my alley!
Super interesting topic and I appreciate your take. I agree that if I don't like the design, I don't care about the quality. I don't hate H bags, I can see myself swinging around a B25 and I think the mini Kelly is super adorable. But I don't see them in my future because frankly, Chanel eats up all my spending money (my first, and favorite, love is the Chanel classic flap), but that's just me. I do agree that there does seem to be a hierarchy that may get in the way of independent desire. But how independent are any of our desires, really? And everything you said about H, you could say about luxury in general. And what's the difference, really, between being turned off by something other people have versus being turned on by it? Aren’t they two sides of the same coin? Aren't we being influenced, either way?
Love this take! You're absolutely right. There is some level of influence in coveting every level of fashion, but maybe it was bc I worked on the ground and saw consumers react to it every day I continually got the sense that so many people were going with the 'herd' while a select few others may find interest in somewhat different items.
Having to pull out the same bags to show people every hour got so boring over time, and it took a lot of the joy and fun out of it for me.

Same! I just really don't like the styles. And re: other influencers - generally I like to 'live and let live' but I will agree that once the get a B/K the content does end up going more in that direction...and it just doesn't resonate with me.
I of course have to remember that our budgets and incomes must be vastly different. And our tastes styles and priorities are as well.

Hermes Birkin and Kelly have always been around. Why haven't ppl been buying all these while until only recently? Simply bc of the price. Now that Chanel is on par, ppl then start to do this so call journey, while no need to fear the resell value bc of the hype. The question is.... How many ppl REALLY love BKC?
I see ppl carrying BK on the streets, in trains etc, the bags are really understated. I wouldn't know or feel the luxuriousness at all especially if I don't know the brand. In contrast when I see a Chanel classic flap, it feels luxurious. If that makes sense.. Great video
I know exactly what you mean! Maybe a way to explain it is that Chanel and Hermes are different types of luxury. I know that I used to like Chanel better (I've lost my lust for it in the past few years)

I feel like in the beginning, I was heavily influenced by influencers. However, I’ve grown to love the craftsmanship of their bags. I had a B35, but couldn’t do it. The weight was unbearable for me. Idk how these other girls do Birkins, but I LOVE my K32. It’s not nearly as heavy, and I love that it has the crossbody strap. I even remember saying that the garden party is such an old lady bag and I ended up getting one later on for work 😂. I absolutely love how basic it is for work and more on the if you know you know kinda vibe. I also felt like with my Birkin it was unsafe to carry alone. I do understand that the brand isn’t everyone’s vibe. I also agree that these influencers do way too much. They all have these massive collections that even celebs richer than them don’t have 😂, which I think says a lot. At the end of the day, it is JUST a bag. And most of the time these influencers get them and leave them on the shelf because they’re scared of using them.

Girl…I hear you…I’m not crazy about either the Kelly or Birken…. Too much hype for me. But they have many other bags that are just as nice and more practice for me…so I did break down and get a Hermes Toolbox 20…..although discontinued in 2018 I believe…it is a dark green perfect for the fall and winter…three ways to wear…so via pre-love at $3900 I am very happy with it. It is in mint condition and I don’t have to worry about authenticity because it is not a popular model. Im on the hunt for a Hermes Jypserie……budgeted $4700 max…..pre-love of course….this is another model that is not as popular but it has all the craftsmanship, high quality leather, and amazing hardware….and it is not a replicated bag so no worries about authenticity. Hermes also has a couple of bag styles that similar to the Alma and The Jackie…so I decided rather then spend 3-5k on a LV…or Dior…I will take a hard wearing leather Hermes bag any day of the week. I agree cause I ain’t playin that Hermes game,,,,,I got the $$ but a sistah likes a deal and likes to get more for her money. Plus I’m all into the vintage……and I refuse to buy the latest “it” bag…cause these designers will have us all broke!

I agree…too heavy, fussy, old school saddle style carry is not my vibe. It is a style that was made for an older generation that would be heavy ti handle. The craftsmanship is the quality of an incredible saddlery. Just don’t want to carry one around, including the elite club hoop and outrageous cost. I like designer creativity in making unique bags..that are cool and original. Why I watch your videos, you are the voice of reason with your experience in being in the resale business..thank you for sharing your thoughts on this one, I agree ❤️

I love my H bags..I also enjoy other bag..LV is still my most practical brand. I love my H shawls, shoes and accessories including tableware. Everytime I wear my H shoes I am genuinely surprised when strangers come up and ask me where I got my shoes from.
I want a mini lindy but have no desire for a birkin or kelly. Too formal for me! I've seen some hermes bags that idk what yhe model names are and they do look interesting but then again I know they're not in my purchasing power lol
They are definitely more formal! And the Lindy is more unique and casual of a style for sure. A few others that I think are cool are the Della, the Geta, and the Roulis. They definitely give the Hermes aesthetic but are way more under the radar

I don't have any dedicated reviews but I can say that I loved the Bamboo bag and I have the NIa (example here bit.ly/3lnxVWF ) on my wishlist. However I ended up selling the Bamboo bc it was just way too small for my needs (I'm the type of person that takes an umbrella with me to a party! aka a pack-rat)
I also had the Sochia bag in green embossed suede, but there were quality control issues with that one. The glazing/piping around the edges got sticky. So while the size on that one was great, I had to return it. I exchanged for the new one but the replacement had the same issue.
The Nia is on my wishlist, and I ADORED the Bamboo but I need a bigger size. I was sad to sell it !

I have 3 of his bags and one card holder. I have been impressed with the quality so far. I went with Brandon Blackwood bags because they are out of the norm (duffle style, denim truck, mesh, etc.). I like that I can pick up more unique styles that I won't wear often for a great price without sacrificing quality or style. The packaging is also excellent. Give him a try.

I agree with you. I have a Birkin that was gifted to me, and I hate the color. My luxury love started with chanel, and most other brands are steps down. There is one brand that sells the heck out of pleather that I hate. Lastly, I will never play the game.

I totally understand what you're saying. I personally don't like the Berkin or Kelly and the prices are crazy to me. The only Hermes bag I like is the Constance and I do love that they have so many colors. I will however never own a Constance because I'm not willing to even pay the resale price for one. I do own a pair of Oran sandals that I got at a buy sell trade store for $38, they are authentic and I love them.

I am just going to be devil’s advocate here. I have 2 Birkins/2 Kelly’s I did not play the game. I did purchase outside of store, 2 of them I paid out the nose for, including a BNIB B25 Noir. Was it dumb? hell yes lol. Nobody needs it. I live in a smallish town nobody knows or cares when I wear it. So why… I really feel like they are bags I can wear for the rest of my life. They have stood the test of time. Hermes will also spa forever without a fight like Chanel 🤷🏻♀️ I see both sides. You totally make sense too.

Yaaassss! I think it’s insane to purchase a bunch of “objects” you don’t really want just to hopefully be offered an opportunity to spend more money to buy a bag at $10k+. Hopefully, the bag offer is in the color, size, and style that you want. This is the definition of insanity and influence!
Also, regarding all those folks who have unboxed Hermes items as part of embarking on this “journey”, I hope they have good sense and have a lot of money in savings, stocks and mutual funds, retirement accounts, etc. Ppl should not save $$$ to purchase items and a bag at Hermes price points at the expense of creating and maintaining financial security.

I don’t think every Hermes employee mistreats a client. They have always been kind to me. I love Hermes quality. It’s unmatched in relation to other luxury brands. I really love Hermes quality. Their designs are def understated. Very diff from a monogram or large logo. Just diff vibe. Still beautiful to me. As for the journey now…. I can’t do it anymore. It’s too tough now even if I have been buying for years

While I think Hermes bags are understated and pretty, the flap closure for Birkins and Kelleys seems too fussy for me. Add to that, the price of B/Ks are beyond my price threshold for bags and having to buy things at Hermes I don't need, I don't see a B/K in my future. 💁🏽♀️ Most especially agree with your point that the purchase should be about the product.
You see i love hermes, the brand is one of my favorites. I dont mind that you have to spend to get offered because i wanted the items I purchased anyways. Id advise people not to even bother if they dont want the other stuff then they probably dont care for the brand enough for hermes to even want to sell them a bag. Hermes likes to sell there bags to people who genuinely enjoy there brand and items and “objects”. The bags were made for lovers of the brand, not for people who just want a bag. 😂😊
Infact i own tons and tons of hermes items and have been offered a bag, however it wasnt the bag i wanted so i passed, no harm done.
Hermes is definitely not for everyone. Thats why there are so many beautiful brands out there!!
The funny thing - and I had to cut this for time - actually like the trinkets! Some of them are fun- I just don’t think the bags are worth all of the commotion…for me.

I’m going to get a birkin, but I’m wanting to buy pre-loved. I don’t really want to be on a journey for a bag. It’s not for me. If I want it, I want to be able to just buy it. Paying a premium is okay with me when it means I’m avoiding doing a pre spend and begging for a bag.

Great video! I completely agree with those points and I find the bags to look like ones I can easily find at Ross, Marshals, or TJ maxx. Sure they have exceptional leather but that should be standard for purses in general, for them to last for a while. Sure you can possibly use the purse for decades but fashion always evolves over time. Maybe in 3 decades Hermes won’t be the “it” bag anymore and you’d have just invested so much money into that one bag for nothing.
That's exactly right! In previous generations the "it" piece to have was a fur coat - now ~2 generations later the now middle-aged grandchildren of these women are trying to sell them on and there is NO MARKET for fur coats. prior to that the collectibles also included silverware and fine china.
That could very well happen down the road with handbags. Which is why I say, buy what you like and makes sense for *YOU* right *NOW*
I think luxury is fun when you buy into brands that resonate with you personally. The Hermes brand just does not connect with me on any level. I got a Constance belt like 10 years ago and only wore it out like two times.

For some reason I’ve been wondering about other girls Dream bags lately. Most girls seem to strive for the aforementioned bags but is that everyone? I’d like to know if anyone has a dream bag that isn’t the typical Hermes, Chanel or Lady Dior. And does a dream bag always have to be the most expensive? Are there any girls who’s Dream bag is a LV Alma or a Gucci Dionysus or any bag under around $2-3K? Just my random thought lol.
The only bag I really went 'gaga over' like that was my Gucci Dionysus. It spoke to me, and I lusted after it for years before purchasing! But I would definitely be curious to hear from others.
I do know that the Dior Saddle and Fendi Baguette were on wishlists in a similar in the early 2000s. Hence the resurgence and popularity today

I've never liked Hermes bags! I find their designs so boring. The only thing I like about them are the colours but Fendi and Chanel do great colours too!

I got offered a picotin, loved it. Its so boring, simple and beautiful in its ocd perfection. When i see it i think of being at countryside enjoying picnic. Its cute but yes so boring. I regreted not buying a lime colour picotin 18 but i think it was too small and the pop colour scared me as my first bag....its been living rent free ever since in my head for months now ... buying it preloved feels as punishment since the price is jacked up.

I don’t see an Hermes bag in my future. The only bag I genuinely like is the Kelly pochette and with the rumors of it being so elusive and on the verge of being discontinued I just don’t want to deal with the hassle. The birkin is ok but I hate tote bags and the Kelly is nice but too dressy and lady like for my personal style. I love the Hermes quality and their colors but they lack in the style department and other bags and brands just make my heart leap.
Yes! There are so many other brands out there. I've seen the Kelly Pochette many times in person but only in Swift leather and I would worry about it being fussy and scratching easily. Lmk what your thoughts are on the bag !
I love the Kelly bag & the birkin But only oversized & in fun colors. I agree for the most part their style of bags & accessories are boring. I also don’t like the hoops I’d have to jump through to purchase the bag. I’d only want one brand new. Again I love the Kelly & the birkin but only in bright fun colors. I wear an Hermès Cinhetic in rouge piment with pallidium hardware. It's under the radar, only diehard Hermès connoisseurs would know it's an Hermès. I have a few of their scarves, two scarf rings, and bought a belt (Odyssey buckle) with gift money. It's not the telltale H belt. I've since bought a second reversible leather. I have a pair of Oran Sandals in Rouge H; I'm getting my money's worth with them too. Sometimes I fantasize about a Bolide 45, but a Longchamp can do the same thing at a fraction of the price. Maybe when I'm retired with money to burn. 😃 Doubt it. Poor return on investment.

No matter where I am, for some reason I feel incredibly uncomfortable carrying very expensive bags. I've sold my chanel classic flap for this reason after all the price increases. Although I like the look of Hermes bags, I wouldn't buy one simply as a result of what they symbolize.
I know what you mean. There are some places I don't like carrying my bags either. That's one of the many reasons I like going under the radar with the styles I choose
I agree with you. Hate the games Herman plays that you have to spend so much money before you qualify to buy a bag! That to me is really stupid! There leather is good from what I hear, but there are other companies that buy Hermes leather and make their bags by hand, same quality at a fraction of the cost of Hermes.

The Evelyn bag is not pretty. But quality is important to me as well as color.
i bought a super cute small (not mini) pebbled leather bag off of poshmark for $80. i liked it because it had a hermes look and the top was lined with a few grommets of BOTH silver and gold. so i would be able to wear either silver or gold jewelry. anyhoo, i get the bag, and it reads “hermes paris made in france” on the front!!! now, CLEARLY it’s a fake, but the pebbled leather is real. the seller must have blacked out the name on the front in the poshmark pics. i didn’t know whether to be pissed or happy, lol. but i do sometimes use it, and it has a casual look. lots of compliments, of course 😏😂
That's so strange! I've never heard of such a thing. At least they weren't representing it on Posh as Hermes, or even replica

Other influencers going on about “quiet luxury” while wearing bags likes Hermes that scream “please look at me!!” Is also getting old. I have never understood the Hermes appeal. From the product to the experience in store, just no.

I don't think anyone needs to go into H if they don’t like shopping there. Also having shopped for the last four years I can state that no one forced me to buy anything. I buy what I like and say no to what I don’t want.

I completely forgot! I have a perfume lol I have Jardin sur La Nile. But I haven’t been able to wear any perfumes lately so it’s just sitting in my bathroom untouched. I would recommend it if you prefer lighter scents, but I stopped liking it on my body (I’m sensitive to smells)

Hermes has my ❤It’s about quality and craftsmanship. The way I wear my Kelly and Birkins, open, isn’t fussy at all. I have never ever had 1 quality issue from Hermes, I can’t say the same for any other brand, esp LV and Chanel, I wouldn’t give them a cent of my $ at this point. I think over all Hermes items are very chic in style, and never look outdated. I can’t say the same for most other brands.
I absolutely agree that LV and Chanel's quality are HORRIBLE - but there are so many other brands out there beyond the 'big 3' (including Hermes) I feel like they suck up all the oxygen in the room, and for me, especially lately, it flattens the experience of luxury.

I don’t like Hermes bags either. They look like old lady bags with zero style. I saw a 20 something in a high-end SoCal mall this year carrying a Birkin with a Chanel tweed jacket draped over her shoulders. She looked ridiculous!!! Why would you want to try to look 50 when you’re 25 on purpose? Grateful Hermes is not my jam 😂. Gorgeous leathers but do not like their bag designs. Can’t imagine carrying a top handle living in the city walking 5 miles a day everywhere either so not functional for my lifestyle without a car. Oh and also, I could afford it but choose not to buy so that doesn’t play into my decision that the designs are a snoozefest to me.
Agree on ALL OF THIS ! Sure, the bags are 'classic' but to the point of being stuffy. I just don't find them beautiful or appealing.
I actually like top handle bags and would even be willing to suffer to actually carry one (my LV Belmont for example) but the style just doesn't speak to me

I do not own and will not buy an Hermes Bag. They are not my style and I do not play games with sales clerks. If I love a bag, I buy it. The Kelly and Birkin are the types of bags Nana and Great Aunt Agnes would carry to church and Sunday dinner in the 1950s. We are expected to admire and crave these Hermes bags. Not for me.
