I actually really like how the game automatically records all the matches and gives you so many perspective options. Hope more competitive multiplayer games in the future do this.
Yeah it makes it easy to show how good the game is to my friends that are unfamiliar with it. All I gotta do is send them the highlights I like enough to save to my pc

I can see Synergy being something that draws people in not just because it's a new idea but it would foster streamer collabs like a top Loki and Hela teaming up to dominate Competitive. A LOT of games nowadays have nothing for the player to invest in outside the item shop but having a built in reason to find and buddy up with someone you work well with could end up more appealing to some than just finishing a battle pass for the sake of completion.
That’s why me and my friends played apex legends together at first. I’d play caustic and he’d play Gibraltar, or I’d play pathfinder and he would play wraith. But the devs for that game are smooth brains who don’t know what they’re doing and every daily patch would just ruin every meta or synergy that existed by they “don’t want to see players using certain strats or characters too often” yeah and that decision was at the cost of playability. Now it’s a fucking chord to play bc you can’t have mains anymore, you can’t have favourite guns. You just read the update log and think “oh okay the spitfire is the weapon I have to use now and my main sucks and I have to use the character I hate now” then a week later “oh okay all of it sucks except these two characters nobody played bc they are boring and these two guns which are so shit that the devs has to overhaul them just to make them somewhat viable” etc etc
While the overwatch comparison are valid and clear the synergy system really harkens back to the old ultimate alliance days and I personally love that imagine a season just based around civil war. Wow can't say even i wouldn't get excited
I miss when people would yell out "Hey ___! when you Ult I'll throw mine in so we can ___!" Now it's just throwing ults in the wind most the time it feels like. Definitely a massive W for Rivals. I started playing Rocket just because I kept getting Punisher and/or Groot players. And absolutely love him now.
I'm hyped for Rivals. I've wanted an xmen version of Ow1 for years. Marvel has so many characters that fit, and enough lore for skins and special events to keep things evolving

@@salinaember9527 it really is x-men's year with 97, deadpool 3, marvel vs capcom collection. they did slowly comeback in comics a bit ago but since MVCI marvel games seemed to have a bit more freedom at not trying to mimic the movies like midnight sun's has a nice blend with x-men, avengers as the prominent big groups associations but it does have the likes of Nico, Blade, Morbius that change it up
Rivals gives me that old Overwatch 1 itch back that i miss since Overwatch 2. I hate Overwatch 2 5v5 i still play it occasionally but it just misses alot of the chaotic playstyle and synergys you had in 1 and Rivals hits the spots just right and i can't stop playing it lul.
It's way better than I expected it to be. It's like OverWatch but all the heroes actually feel powerful and it's not balanced and designed around esport level co ordination.
Perhaps im the odd one out but Overwatch 2 feels much better than 1. Feels much faster and most of the characters that were just awful or hard to play that were more likable like Winston are much tougher and fun to use. Alot of the ability tweeks have made Overwatch 2 flow better than 1.

Tanks in ow1 were miserable to play than in ow2. Queue time as dps was a lot worse. The only synergy that is gone are from duo tanks. 5v5 is relies a bit more on indiviual plays but you still need to work together in order to win. People saying that 5v5 is like a glorified Deathmatch dont know what they talking about.
What I found interesting about this is that the gameplay itself feels like an evolution of Overwatch. Like this is what I would expect from an OW2. The new twists on synergies, the map interactivity, the striking art style and the characters being generally overtuned. It's like Netease made a sequel to Overwatch on paper and then transitioned it to a Marvel game. I am really enjoying it, even if I keep being reminded that this is VERY Overwatch
Been playing the game and I can concur it’s incredibly fun and I can’t wait for full release. Also been playing on ps5 and have had no problems running the game and match making is almost instant!

The team ups I like because it’s an explicit “THESE HEROES WORK TOGETHER” that helps casual players with team comps instead of the current Overwatch system of “people scream at each other in chat who to pick based on which streamer they last watched”
It's also important that OW cosmetics were basically free if you played enough, I owned every cosmetic in the game and had like 700 Loot Boxes when they forced them all open. It became obvious to me quickly with OW2 that players like me were "the problem", even if I spent like 200 dollars probably on OWL Skins, Alien Zarya, etc.
This has great visuals. Love the animation style. And it's moving it's form forward. It adds to its unique play by not sucking as bad. And this is a frantic fight.

I was thinking teamups would be cool to Maybe change a character's comp (dive, poke, Rush). That way they have more playability competitively in comps that wouldnt otherwise work. So for example you have a Rush tank with a team Up that gives them vertical mobility if playing with a certain dive character, that way they double in a dive comp. Or Maybe a Poke character that has a team Up which gives them horizontal mobility or more health, that way they double for a Rush comp. Or a Rush tank that is given a team Up ability that gives them a long range attack, making them viable for a Poke comp. Etc.
As someone who has played overwatch from the beginning and has seen that game go downhill fpr years, i have had so much fun playing Rivals where overwatch drove me away for years.

The OW2 game director literally spent like two weeks and more on the blog post about 6v6. Rivals beta had no effect on his decision. Also, why can't these two games coexist?
I've been having a lot of fun with this game, sure there are some things they need to work out with it as far as balancing and flow of the game, but still a lot of fun!
I have never really been a hero shooter player. I played a little of Overwatch when it first came out but it’s never been my thing. I absolutely love Marvel Rivals. My friends and I have been playing like crazy. It is so damn polished for a closed beta.
I like the team-up mechanic. The game just needs to build up its roster and more and more team-ups to make so that (ideally) every character has a potential team-up. And I also like that it's hardly a Hero Shooter since a good number of characters are melee-focused. And there's a lot more variation in their abilities. Which makes this game a bit more unique IMO. Not too unique but just enough. Aaaand I grew up loving Marvel Comics stuff so... I might have a bias. I see myself enjoying this game. Don't know for how long. But I'll definitely be playing when it comes out. There's endless potential for future characters too and I can't wait to see who'll be added. My favorites Spider-man and Venom are already in the game so I'm personally hoping for more X-men like Wolverine, Cyclops, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, Rogue, and more.

I definitely see the potential but the way I see it, it's a new flavor of Overwatch with the same problems. Playing "support" with randos basically means you're a sitting duck and since characters have clearly defined roles, 2-2-2 comps are gonna be encouraged more by the general player base or else you get flamed, I can already see it now. It's still in development and stuff can change but me personally I would prefer it to focus less on roles and have everyone be about the same just with different kits, and with auto health regen. Cause honestly I just wanna play Iron Man and no one else and if I gotta compromise my fun for a team comp that doesn't work and we lose anyway, I won't be sticking around, even with the production value this game has. Also RIP Gundam Evolution.
I understand the Iron Man point, but I actually see huge future potential with team ups encouraging variety, perhaps having strong DPS synergy with Tanks or Healers. It'll likely make the game a lil broken balance wise, but more fun.
It’s honestly pretty fun and have been enjoying my time I. The closed beta, I’m about level 10 now and it makes me excited to see how things pan out in the full release

Funnily enough with the recording matches feature by recording players movements, even though its not a competitive shooter Super Smash Bros. Ultimate does the same thing.
Thats because concord is a trash game, with lame gameplay, horrible character design, and a clear focus on "representation and inclusivity" over making a fun game... Plus, is paid game with microtransactions... Just comparing it to Marvel Rivals, or any other game, is an insult to human intelligence.
If today’s live service games would give you a « Free to start » + « full game version » kind if deal, I think everyone would get to win on that. Let people start out with 10-20% of the roster, one character of each class at least, « force » them to play games with each and reward them with premium currency for it. If the plqyer liked the game, give them a « gameplay all in bundle » at a standard 40-60€ tag which unlocks every character and every future character to be released. If I could get the « entire game » for that price in MTX, which would equate a standard game, I wouldn’t mind that. What I hate is having to buy every battlepass every season to get the characters.
When it come to the similarities between M Rivals and overwatch, I think it’s kind of like battle royals, first there was pubg then fortnight, and now it’s just a new game genera. Eventually the overwatch style of game will just become its own game genre
Overwatch wasn't even the first "hero shooter", it just popularized it and set the new standard. Team Fortress 2 set the foundation for the genre. It's similar to how Wolfenstein 3d came before Doom, but Doom is the game that popularized FPS and set the standard despite just building off what Wolfenstein was already doing.

I think the biggest thing that killed payed live service games is having microtransactions in payed games. Because usually it means you aren't getting any extra value from paying for the game.
I was lucky enough to get into the beta for ps5 and I gotta be honest it’s really good. Just for a closed beta I was impressed. Now it’s not perfect and hopefully my issues can be addressed but it’s giving me a feeling I have not had since 2016 when overwatch came out. I love it. And they just revealed some more characters at SDCC and they look so good. I hope it’s out by this time next year. I think it fully releasing this year is a bit of a pipe dream but next year for sure.
This is a solid game. It’s not as polished or new feeling as Concord, but the IP is cool, obviously and being free, will get a lot of people in. Though I bet a lot of those people end up spending more than 40$. I really wish Rivals wasn’t 3rd person.
Depending how ow2 6x6 dilemma gets handle, this game is definitely gonna be more popular for awhile, plus the game is more like paladins and has that charm that tf2 has while ow1 and 2 doesn’t
The recorded replay feature is super nice, but from what I've seen of other games that use it (like Smash Bros) it gets finnicky after updates and minor tweaks. That usually leads to replays getting deleted.
Though the characters already had costumes for inspiration, these designs are SICK!!! So much better than Concord and Suicide Squad's weird parade cosplay looking character designs.Please excuse me while I stalk the galleries of the artists who worked on this.
About OW having a price tag, not only all the correct things you said, but also Blizzard still had a rep for quality games... "blizzard polish" was a term gamers knew and expected... and to be fair OW had it as well. The negative comments nowadays are really earmarks of the blizzard fumbles that followed its released specifically with the game... but also Blizzard had plenty of non-game related fumbles come out since then to amplify those souring moods.

Got into the beta myself and it's decent, defo has some balance issues at present. Healing seems op at times which can be brutal and some heroes (e.g. iron man) just murd3r everything. Could see it being worth the time when out
The worst mistake of Concord is releasing the beta so close to the Rivals beta, since now people will have in their pocket the comparison of how good Rivals does it compared to concord, mostly the fact Rivals is free to play and Concord isn't
It's different to an extend from one game to another. If communication from devs is good it rarely blows up much and having conversations about balances is just something people do with any competitive title. Can't judge until it happens sort of thing.
It feels like everyone wants to take overwatch's crown now that OW2 has failed. Valve's leaked game, concord, and rivals all probably started development when OW2 released - maybe a bit before
So, is it me who got completely twisted with modern gaming or why is it that I don’t get the OW comparison? I think that 10 years ago, OW’s price was absolutely fine and still would be by today’s standard. Yes, the game was 50€. But you had the entire game, and playing rewarded you with lootboxes which allowed you to get cosmetics. Lootboxes contained cosmetics only. I never spent money on it except for the initial purchase price. I got almost all the skins and if I didn’t I had enough gold to buy the ones I really wanted.
The problem is that the live service games market is too crowded, and people can't be in every single one of them, so the game that offers the most advantages is the one that gains the most players, one of the more popular ones is "free to play". For this reason, it is not advisable to charge for this type of game nowadays, or in any case it should have a lower price.
I am probably never going to play this, but I will say the art direction looks great (at least for the characters), especially compared to Concord which is so generic it looks like an asset flip.

Playing spiderman in an overwatch setting feels like a dream come true. I’m having a blast in the beta.
For me the art in this game goes so hard I would play just for that even if Concord has better gameplay I don't care.

My favorites Spider-man and Venom are already in the game so I'm personally hoping for more X-men like Wolverine, Cyclops, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, Rogue, and more.

I definitely see the potential but the way I see it, it's a new flavor of Overwatch with the same problems. Playing "support" with randos basically means you're a sitting duck and since characters have clearly defined roles, 2-2-2 comps are gonna be encouraged more by the general player base or else you get flamed, I can already see it now. It's still in development and stuff can change but me personally I would prefer it to focus less on roles and have everyone be about the same just with different kits, and with auto health regen. Cause honestly I just wanna play Iron Man and no one else and if I gotta compromise my fun for a team comp that doesn't work and we lose anyway, I won't be sticking around, even with the production value this game has. Also RIP Gundam Evolution.
I understand the Iron Man point, but I actually see huge future potential with team ups encouraging variety, perhaps having strong DPS synergy with Tanks or Healers. It'll likely make the game a lil broken balance wise, but more fun.

Funnily enough with the recording matches feature by recording players movements, even though its not a competitive shooter Super Smash Bros. Ultimate does the same thing.

So concord gets absolutely thrashed, but the Overwatch clone that happens to feature marvel characters gets a pass. Great.
Thats because concord is a trash game, with lame gameplay, horrible character design, and a clear focus on "representation and inclusivity" over making a fun game... Plus, is paid game with microtransactions...

If today’s live service games would give you a « Free to start » + « full game version » kind if deal, I think everyone would get to win on that.
Let people start out with 10-20% of the roster, one character of each class at least, « force » them to play games with each and reward them with premium currency for it.
If the plqyer liked the game, give them a « gameplay all in bundle » at a standard 40-60€ tag which unlocks every character and every future character to be released.
If I could get the « entire game » for that price in MTX, which would equate a standard game, I wouldn’t mind that. What I hate is having to buy every battlepass every season to get the characters.
When it come to the similarities between M Rivals and overwatch, I think it’s kind of like battle royals, first there was pubg then fortnight, and now it’s just a new game genera. Eventually the overwatch style of game will just become its own game genre
Overwatch wasn't even the first "hero shooter", it just popularized it and set the new standard. Team Fortress 2 set the foundation for the genre. It's similar to how Wolfenstein 3d came before Doom, but Doom is the game that popularized FPS and set the standard despite just building off what Wolfenstein was already doing.
I'll take a closer look when it is fully released. I just hope the monetization is not garbage.
I think this has way, way more legs than Concord. It has the advantage of years of brand recognition, and free, which Concord does not have.

I think the biggest thing that killed payed live service games is having microtransactions in payed games. Because usually it means you aren't getting any extra value from paying for the game.

I was lucky enough to get into the beta for ps5 and I gotta be honest it’s really good. Just for a closed beta I was impressed. Now it’s not perfect and hopefully my issues can be addressed but it’s giving me a feeling I have not had since 2016 when overwatch came out. I love it. And they just revealed some more characters at SDCC and they look so good. I hope it’s out by this time next year. I think it fully releasing this year is a bit of a pipe dream but next year for sure.

That main menu looks like a mobile game, it reminds me so much of MARVEL SUPER WAR.

This is a solid game. It’s not as polished or new feeling as Concord, but the IP is cool, obviously and being free, will get a lot of people in. Though I bet a lot of those people end up spending more than 40$. I really wish Rivals wasn’t 3rd person.
I hope they add first person view, skins that are cool but arent overpriced, a PVE mode, this could beat OW2 at least in terms of fun

The recorded replay feature is super nice, but from what I've seen of other games that use it (like Smash Bros) it gets finnicky after updates and minor tweaks. That usually leads to replays getting deleted.
Though the characters already had costumes for inspiration, these designs are SICK!!!

About OW having a price tag, not only all the correct things you said, but also Blizzard still had a rep for quality games... "blizzard polish" was a term gamers knew and expected... and to be fair OW had it as well. The negative comments nowadays are really earmarks of the blizzard fumbles that followed its released specifically with the game... but also Blizzard had plenty of non-game related fumbles come out since then to amplify those souring moods.

Marvel Rivals I would pay 40 to 60 USD for, the characters look good, gameplay looks good, has cool ideas and unique ideas.
I love Marvel and Overwatch 1. So this game is paradise for me.
Got into the beta myself and it's decent, defo has some balance issues at present.
Healing seems op at times which can be brutal and some heroes (e.g. iron man) just murd3r everything.

The worst mistake of Concord is releasing the beta so close to the Rivals beta, since now people will have in their pocket the comparison of how good Rivals does it compared to concord, mostly the fact Rivals is free to play and Concord isn't

It's different to an extend from one game to another. If communication from devs is good it rarely blows up much and having conversations about balances is just something people do with any competitive title. Can't judge until it happens sort of thing.
It feels like everyone wants to take overwatch's crown now that OW2 has failed. Valve's leaked game, concord, and rivals all probably started development when OW2 released - maybe a bit before

I think that 10 years ago, OW’s price was absolutely fine and still would be by today’s standard. Yes, the game was 50€. But you had the entire game, and playing rewarded you with lootboxes which allowed you to get cosmetics. Lootboxes contained cosmetics only. I never spent money on it except for the initial purchase price. I got almost all the skins and if I didn’t I had enough gold to buy the ones I really wanted.
The problem is that the live service games market is too crowded, and people can't be in every single one of them, so the game that offers the most advantages is the one that gains the most players, one of the more popular ones is "free to play". For this reason, it is not advisable to charge for this type of game nowadays, or in any case it should have a lower price.

Personally I hate when games penalize you for leaving a game early. If your team is getting shit on why should you be forced to waste your time?
Should get one free leave game every 24 hours before penalties are enforced but good concept nonetheless
