You could probably do a complete build and settings video every few months as fast as tech is changing, some basics are there for awhile but so many variables that unless you do a complete or focus on one aspect like this video it will be outdated by Christmas....
This is very much a DIY hobby and I for one can use all of the help I can get.
    THANK YOU!!!
I love the Vlog and your willingness to take us along.

The HS1177 we have in stock no longer have the BNC plug, they have an RCA so you should be able to hook the camera straight to your goggles. MUCH EASIER then before for sure! But before I just bought a BNC to RCA adapter and still hooked it to my goggles or a screen. Thanks for sharing your settings Steele! You da man!

Your fatshark battery will plug rite into the connection that no one ever has. I didn't have to mod any cables, worked fine as long as you have the correct AV cable
It's a bit moe difficult to setup than the swift but it's worth it.
    2.5mm lens is the shit
Thanks for your time Steele, good stuff, keep up

Dude loved your guide on FPV cam, read my mind. The only gap would be some more great suggestions about anything different you do for making a decent recording cam setup. (even though we know it's gopro cam and Chad knows the settings for exactly what to upload formatting wise to youtube for the cleanest videos) I'd also love to hear about any gimbal usage in your experience and do's and don't to think about that made your gimbal-less videos so clean and perfect even as a freestylist since that's not exactly something someone could gimbal for so to speak. I may end up picking up this FPV cam you mentined and give the 2.5 a try just from the great responses on why you picked this setup.

Can you make a budget quad build video?
Let's say 150 US-dollar for the frame, FC, ESCs, Motors, FPV, Camera.
    For example ZMR250, NAZE32, DYS20A, minimosd, 600mw fake 32ch fatshark VTX, nonames2204 motors and a china clone copy sony TVL600, .
You might argue that the parts i suggested are s### f### a## and every part sucks like d###, but that's what a lot of people start off.
I bet a lot of people would love to see how you turn this budget into something halfway enjoyable.

Hey man, this question is in regards to a statement you made in the Rotor Riot Taranis Review video, but I figured I had a better chance of you actually seeing it if I posted it here. You said something along the lines of "if you don't bend the pins in the module bay you're going to introduce 22ms of lag". I did some research and found that some people were having to bend their pins in order to get certain modules to line up, but didn't find any information about bending the pins to reduce potential lag. Can you clarify exactly what you meant?

Hi, you can actually connect the osd cable rather simple. What you need is the AV-In/Out cable (jack to cinch cable) delivered with your fatshark googles and a secondary googles battery (which should normally be available in the field). You can connect the battery to the dc jack of the osd cable and the AV-In/Out with the yellow cinch to your googles AV in port. Thats it, the camera is powered by the battery und the image ist directly shown in the googles. The only thing you might not have in the field is the AV cable, but i do so, since i fly most the time with external receiver.

  • @MrStevegibb

In my quad getting the camera out to adjust the settings is a PITA.
I am actually thinking about wiring the osd joystick pin to a separate connector that can be more accessible from the outside of the quad.
I am guessing the joystick needs powering also so perhaps a passthrough xt60 connector to connect inline with the quads battery for powering the joystick and a little connector for the OSD joystick signal.

    • @bryanmiles1353
      @bryanmiles1353 8 років тому

i did this on my alien, they way steele did it in the video is the hard way to do it... cut off the tip of the joysick and use that for your drone that plugs into the camera as a permanent solution... on the white wire connect that to a female servo lead(white wire) and tie the black wires together as well from the camera pigtail to the female servo lead... then just mount the female servo lead on the drone where its convenient... on the joystick do the same but with the male servo lead with the black and white wire... plug it in and you have a in your pocket camera settings adapter at all times... flying at night/dusk... no prob... i have not seen a video on it but until today i barely saw a link on the comment below where a similar wiring job was posted on rc group, was gonna make a video on the build but no point now... thought i had something original but guess not... i was just tired of taking 30 min to adj settings(teardown) and knew i could make a better way...

  • @SirCrashaLot
    @SirCrashaLot 8 років тому +17

There is much simpler way thou. I got it from someone at Alien thread on RCgroups.
We take a white osd cable from fpv
Cam add a ground and make a plug, whatever type one likes. So we have an osd out from fpv cam and added ground on copter, fixed permanently ( say 2cm glued to back of the fpv cam).
That stupid harness of stupidity: we cut the bnc/chinch side off. Just by the joystick, on the FPV cam side we make a servo or whatever plug from osd and you guessed it ground. Thats it.
This way when you fly and decide to change something you just plug in osd and ground side of joystick to the plug on copter and 10 seconds later you have it. No need for anything extra. Using fpv goggles etc.
They finally mimic that in new runcam FPV cams but man did it take years!

I think I'm going to try the 2.5 mm lens. I'm also running a 2.8 and thought about trying a wider angle lens but didn't want to end up with that nasty fish eye effect. Most of those camera settings are close to what I run so I guess I'll see if they would need to be tweaked at all if I use the 2.5 lens. Thanks for the vid, it was interesting to watch and done well.

Turned out, the FatShark bulky cable that comes with the goggles (at least true for my Dom v2) works pretty well with no mods to send video from the cam to the goggles with no fuss. And for power any "barrel" plug with 5-12V like one you would use to charge Taranis or smth similar. Just in case you have that on hand and don't want/need portable DIY solution :)

Would be great if you could do a PNP50 menu settings vid, as I have the pnp50 connected to my ''rotorriot'' alien build and don't see any on screen display at all. Even when I press the menu button I dont see the osd displayed. Vid quality is perfect though and the rest works fine except that there is no OSD shown.

Great Vid, Thanks I like seeing different settings from different people. This helps me understand what i might possibly like for my setup. Can you do a simple switch set-up on your Taranis? I still do not understand the whole throttle switch thing, to much information on use it, don't use it, set it this way, no don't.
I fly with thumbs normally and after watching RR vid on pinch vs thumbs, I am now trying the pinch method. it is going to take time on that however, good stuff keep it it up.

Maybe its just me being a video technician that works in tv etc.... I just find this one a strange subject for people to ask about, for seeming so simple.
Maybe I'm just taking what I learned at work for granted and think everyone else knows what I do?
But yeah basic idea is dont set up the camera "properly" for filming etc or trying to make it look "right".. you want to set it up to highlight everything you see and need to see when flying. Just be aware that in this camera you can raise the output levels too high... fat shark goggles have enough range to fix that but I've discovered that if you have pedestal (the lowest or black level of the signal) too high and the brightness cranked up, you can basically send a video signal that is a higher voltage than should be.. an minimosd micro for example will then start to flicker with it's overlay as its being overloaded..
Basically.. make things look like you need but dont go over crazy... if you have an oscilloscope, plug it in and dont go over 1v and set the blacks to 0.3v
