Billie was supposed to play the solo, Jason starts playing it immediately after noticing Billie is unable to do it. That’s band chemistry.
Yup. Both moved to em chord.
Interesting. Though I haven't seen Billie play the solo on this song since Bullet In A Bible
🔥🔥
I knew that the 'daddy' part was coming and still I felt like a knife in my chest when I heard it
It feels like watching a movie
When the main character dad dead😭
I just wanna hug him. Billie crying literally breaks my heart.
hey
his father would be proud, my god
he's such a good person
I mean, he's the best person I've ever meet
You hear that, take that Dave Grohl. Billie Joe Armstrong is the nicest guy in punk rock, you can keep being the nicest guy in rock but now you have someone up there with you
Oober Noober bro shut up
When he pointed up at the beginning, and said "daddy", I nearly cried!
Well that just tore my heart out! After he yelled "Daddy" he could not even hardly sing from crying :( :( :(
This...this is why I want to devote my life in music. There's no other thing or job where you can put so much emotion into. Everyone is pouring their soul into every move and I think this is the most beautiful thing that we can witness in this world. Raw emotion.
There are many moments where you can see White, Freese and Tré are checking on Billie and seeing if he can continue. That's brotherhood.
I cried when he screamed "Daddy!"
There's nothing worse than seeing my hero crying and not to be able to hug him.
2:44 breaks my heart every time
"Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last."
That part is just so... *sobs*
This song is & always will be my favorite Green Day song. Billies dad would be proud of him for how far him & the rest of the band has came since 1989. Rip Andy Armstrong.
At first I was wondering what Billie was pointing at at 0:15 then I realized, he's pointing up at his father in heaven, like "This is for you" FUCK ;-;
2:46 MY HEART
He starts crying, I start crying, the whole universe bursts into tears due to the death of someone over 30 years ago
hey
I could feel it in his voice that he wanted to cry, oh baby :(
this will always be my favourite green day song
its so heartbreaking
Oh my god. I started crying when he screamed. Such a beautiful song. Rip Andy ♥
When he screams "Daddy" at 2:44 and sings at 3:23 is where I fucking lost it. This is the epitome of why I love this man so much. He has so much passion. I cannot even imagine how he feels.
RIP andy armstrong
Billie once said that singing this song is so difficult that he literally doesn’t know if he can sing the next line
I can't believe he was able to get through that! Emotional performance.
such an emotional performance. oh man, thank you Green Day. speechless.
This show was also the same week as the 30th anniversary of Billie's dad's death and in an interview he said he got SO DRUNK this night that he blacked out and the following day he woke up in a park.
link?
Fullents Rolling Stones magazine
TheHouseOffice his dad died on the 1st of september and this video was on the 15th so that’s two weeks after just saying
santiagoisokay says on google he died on the 10th
@santiagoisokay His father died on the 16th September, this performance of wake me up when september ends had gone into the early morning hours of the 16th September making it exactly 30 years since his fathers passing
when he screams daddy I burst into tears im 13 and still have my daddy I feel so luck and I love billy I feel so strongly for him rip Andy Armstrong....
if you really loved him you would know how to spell his name ;) :P
Anders6836 i have no idea how people misspell billie...
auto correct
My great grandfather passed away Sunday September 21, 2008. This song hits home for me because my great grandfather was like my father.
It annoys me when some people say he almost cried. It’s obvious towards the end that he is really crying he was barely able to finish the song
Oh my god. I started crying when he screamed daddy. Such a beautiful song. Rip Andy ♥
me too
Absolutely breaks my heart...tears come in my eyes when I listen to him struggling to play and to sing after the solo...
Everyone knew this was a bad time. What a week before iheart? You can see the tension in the band...
Oh Billie. You have my heart like a fucking hand grenade.
3GLoveNetwork I don't really think there was tension in the band. Other videos show them having a lot of fun during this very same concert. This is usually the only song in their set where every member gets really serious. HOWEVER, I agree with you saying it was a bad time because Billie Joe was more than likely under huge amounts of stress. The IHeartRadio fest was coming up, Uno was coming out in a week, this concert was on the anniversary of his fathers death (hence "30 years has gone so fast"), plus he had been abusing prescription drugs and was getting pissed drunk every night...
I think it's just the song like they said all the other songs from this concert show them having an awesome time
Exactly the same here, singing while he was crying and still gets through it. if i was there i would just break down crying. Love you BJ
This broke my fucking heart. We all love you Billie 😭😭❤️
You just wanna run up on stage, give him a hug, and tell him everything's gonna be alright, his dad would be proud
nothing more saddening than seeing your hero cry :'( ..
This absolutely breaks my heart - can't imagine the pain he goes through this day each year and hope I never have to...
The fact that he can still creep going is incredible he is an incredible person
I bawl my eyes out every time I watch this.
I just recently lost my mother, I'm so glad to be able to come to this song/video. I know how he feels
"DADDY!!!!!"2:44 😭made me cry and felt his pain.
This guy is my fucking hero. His songs helped me cope with depression and when I hit the breaking point and was thinking about suicide, I played Boulevard of Broken Dreams on repeat for half an hour and it gave me back my will to live. I owe my life to this man and seeing him cry his eyes out like that broke me.
Even though it has nothing to do with me hearing Billie scream Daddy and trying not to cry made me burst out in tears.
Do you think almost making me cry is cool like that. It's not, it's the most awesome and heart warming thing I've seen from Green Day 💚💚💚
3:22 is just heartbreaking. Similar to the bullet in a bible performance.
We love you Billie!
Always
Did he scream .... Daddy? ;-; *cries*
Awww 😓❤️❤️
After 8 years Still brake my heart this video
This broke my heart... for sure your father is proud of you and he would love this song.
that daddy part really had me. rest in peace.
His voice is shaking😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
His dad would be so proud of Billie. RIP Andy Armstrong, well done for keeping singing Billie 3
I've never seen him this bad playing this song :"( oh my God don't cry Billie I love you!!!! Wish I was there to run up to him and give him the biggest hug :"(((
I wanna give him a hug
Poor baby he wanted to stop and just cry and when he said daddy I lost my shit
You can feel the pain in his words, you can feel it
I think he was expecting Billie to play it, but then realised and nailed it!
My dog died today from Heart Failure. She just turned 12. Almost a month after her birthday. She was my favorite dog in the whole world and my first dog. I miss her so much. Rest In Peace Ella
I'm so sorry for your loss, my dog fluffy passed away when she was 15 😔
That hurts a lot ;( ♥
breaks your heart just listening to it
Hearing Billie screaming "daddy" at 2.44 kills me
I cried when I watched this
Congratulations Billie !!!!!!!!
You re the best !!!!!!!

@@nawa786 Because the music Is universal! Greetings!
He is a really strong person
OH MY GOD I CANT STOP CRYING
I wonder how the rest of the band deals (for lack of a better word) with Billie breaking down onstage like that.
Hearing biilie scream daddy breaks my heart /3
Lost my mom a year ago today. Put this on to cry my eyes out.
Was that someone in the crowd singing along harmonies? You can hear it from around 3:36 - 3:50 It sounded awesome
It sounds so chilling
I think it was Jason Freese
@@raddydydy What the...how do you know this?
It could even be Jeff Matika. He's playing guitar.
@@raddydydy That's strange. Then it's clearly a fan that knows this song really well.
Raw emotion...
His dad was a jazz drummer that played in a band and his song redefined punk rock and was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame. If he was my son, I would come from heaven and say: I love you and you make me feel proud of you every day.RIP andy Armstrong
Talento puro..... special one.
2:44 I just felt like my heart had been ripped appart...
This song has officially scarred me for life... 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Lyrics
Wake Me Up When September Ends
Green days
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Like my father's come to pass
Seven years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends
Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Ring out the bells again
Like we did when spring began
Wake me up when September ends
Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Like my father's come to pass
Twenty years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends
Wake me up when September ends
Wake me up when September ends
That's so heartbreaking :(
