THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking my request Tim ❣️ You made my day ❣️ Yes The Byrds were around same time as Beatles...you've got a good ear. They were all around the time that folk music was being influenced by the electric guitar and becoming Folk Rock. Tom Petty was heavily influenced by The Byrds and he emulated a lot of their guitar riffs. RIP David Crosby...you left us with quite a legacy 🙏🏼

When Tom Petty became popular, people told me he sounded like Bob Dylan. I said, no, he sounds like Jim (Roger) McGuinn from the Byrds. Great suggestion, Diane.

This song (and passage in the Bible) reminds us that nothing is permanent (no situation, emotion, hard time, good time) This too will pass. Hard to know that sometimes, but there is a time for all things and then they pass.

Ahh those chiming guitars and heavenly harmonies ... The Byrds were the ultimate West Coast/California folk rock band of the late 60's. I heard them cite George Harrison of The Beatles, and his Rickenbacker guitar, as a huge influence on their own sound. You have great ears Tim. Thanks for this!

The Byrds and Beatles were good friends - there's a Beatles song ("If I Needed Someone") which is a tribute to the Byrds' style. David Crosby was a major part of both The Byrds and the band Crosby Stills & Nash. Both amazing bands with wonderful harmonies. I'd recomment you hve a isten to The Byrds' version of Bob Dylan's "Mr Tambourine Man" and Crosby Stills & Nash's "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" and "Southern Cross". RIP Croz - thanks for the music.

This song was written as a protest to the Vietnam War. The lyrics are the oldest of any song of the rock ‘n roll era, owing to the fact that almost all come from the book of Ecclesiastes.
For further listening to some of David Crosby’s best work, I recommend “Wooden Ships”, which he wrote and performed as part of Crosby Stills & Nash. For a great CSN + Young, I like Long Time Gone.
Your analysis of the songs you play is quite good. The tinny, jangly guitar sounds of Turn! Turn! Turn! calls to mind the style that the band Chic infused into the disco era of the 70s.
When you listen to the songs I have recommended, they paint a musical portrait of the late 60s, with all of its free love and turbulence. I was born during this decade, so this music forms some of my earliest memories. I don’t recall life before it. It means a great deal to baby boomers, even those of us born in its final years, to see your generation’s ability to appreciate our music and see its connection to the genres you prefer for everyday listening.
Thanks for the kind words about David Crosby. He was a very complex man, very much shaping and shaped by the 60s. While we feel his loss, given that he engaged in extensive substance abuse for years, we also know how fortunate we were to have him for so long.

You're dead on about the resemblance to The Beatles. The Byrds were formed to merge the sounds of folk songs with the exciting rock of The Beatles. The Byrds were also one of the few bands at the time to influence the Beatles (instead of the other way around) which they did with their distinctive guitar sound. They also persuaded folk singer Bob Dylan to go electric. Dylan was almost as influential as the Beatlles during the 1960s.
