    Her onions are cooked down pretty damn good! Give the English lady some credit for bringing national cuisine to life in her own rendition. I cook her recipes quite often, with my own flare of course and they always come out fabulous!

    She's an amazing woman. Reminds me of indomitable women I've been privileged to know, and aspired to be like, from all walks of life and many parts of the world. So much pain in those eyes. So much hard-earned knowledge. So much determination to keep going and find goodness. To love, adore, and protect her children above all else. And to make the best of a life that looks so very different to us on the outside, than what it really has been and is.

      Thats not a "Kerala cuisine" as a South Indian I know that.. No South Indian state cook fish curry like that.. all she done is added some English flavors to a mix of onion and tamarind.. and who puts that load of turmeric in a curry? Turmeric will give a bitter off putting taste if used this much.. The closest dish that I can compare to her version is the "Meen Moilee" from Kerala.

      Emma Flint not Indian food! I love nigella but The above comment is right. Being an indian I think we know our spices more. A tsp of turmeric is good enough. Also I’m from Kerala , so it’s not “keralan”. A simple Kerala fish curry is great enough. A good version from her though and it’s her show so she adds what she sees fit. Fair enough!

But if the kids are sleeping around 9, are they eating that late? Couldn't all of them just eat together? Must she be having curry with red chilis that would burn off the kids' tongues? What's the story?

      About how much turmeric....half or less of what she suggests ? I also feel like it needs a starchy accompaniment. What would you serve with it ? For a little garnish, finely minced parsley or cilantro?

    • @karenkaren3189
      @karenkaren3189 5 років тому +1

      Also do you just soften the onions until translucent or let them brown?

    • @ashkhri
      @ashkhri 5 років тому +3

      @@karenkaren3189 cilantro definitely, and she did serve it with fresh, fluffy rice. Rice is the best thing with curries like this. The turmeric really depends on you. I say to try the recipe first, and then decide how much you want to reduce. If youre not a turmeric fan (like me) Then maybe reduce a teaspoon of it from the recipe. Make sure to put something like chilli powder instead to compensate for any loss of flavour.
      As for the onions, I would brown them because that brings more flavour, but to each their own.

    Good choice of fish however too much tamarind and turmeric. Again the fish should be cooked in coconut sauce ( coconut, onion, tamarind to taste , paprika/ red chilli powder and a bit of coriander powder all ground to a paste) optional- cumin, fenugreek, red hot chilli powder Then heat a table spoon of oil to splutter some mustard seeds, fenugreek and finely chopped shallots with dried red chillies. Add this to the cooked fish let it simmer. ( amount of oil used can vary) . Do not forget the curry leaves at different times of cooking .. @@p.art4705 It's like using the Kerala Matta rice instead Basmathi and saying Hey! happy Eating Hyderabadi Biriyani.Look Im calm only and im pretty sure she or anybody helping her to maintain this youtube channel has the good spirits to take a healthy cristicism about a misrepresentation.I hope you get what im trying to say. Im from Kerala and I soo know how a Kerala Fish curry is made. Have been eating some of the best of them all my life. Definitely not this way. So when a very credible and super celebrity like her presents it like this way i thought of voicing out my opinion.

    Add the coconut milk at the very end. Otherwise, the oil from it will dissociate and it will start tasting awkward.

      ingrid I was thinking the same thing, to make it more of a balanced meal. When I make this, I may throw in some bamboo shoots, even though that may not be “correct”. Also, you could maybe throw in some spinach when you add the fish. Or Water chestnuts, maybe? Carrots might also go nicely. If you think of anything else, let me know :) I can’t wait to try this!

      Right? I'm more confused that the grown-up's are eating supper after the kids have gone to bed. If they are eating around 8, that's a bit early for the kids to be in bed. But if the kids are sleeping around 9, are they eating that late? Couldn't all of them just eat together? Must she be having curry with red chilis that would burn off the kids' tongues? What's the story?

      @@octaviushilbert8307 - Young children here in the United Kingdom have school to attend at 08.30am, and therefore go to bed around 20.00pm.
      During our summer months, darkness doesn't happen in the UK until around 22.30pm, and if this was filmed during a weekday the children would have to be up and out the house by around 08.00am ready to attend school.
      The children, at the time, would have probably eaten before the adults, and possibly something that was more suitable for the children's tastes.
      It's quite normal here in many households - feed the children first, then preparation for their bedtime - feed the adults while the children sleep.
      Eating all together, children and adults, will be the case during weekends.
