Love this! I watched and listened as hundreds of oboe reeds were made, but though I studied and played clarinet through college, I never saw the art of clarinet reeds. Thank you! Love the playing too...

This video does not really do justice to the skill of making reeds from hand and the lifetime of work by Mr Martin it took to get to this level But glad to see that there are still some practitioners of this skill that was once taught by the master teachers Kalman Opperman and Stanley Hasty. Glad that some clarinetists are still doing it! I personally am enjoying my Legere reeds which have taken much of the headache out of reeds in the climate of Chicago.

Mr. Gangolli, I purchased some clarinet reed blanks from you in the 1990s, and the cane was excellent. Do you still sell them by chance? I have been making reeds from tube cane and can't find anything to compare.

@@danielkwong2095 Dear Daniel, wow. Can't even remember but so happy that you are still making reeds. Unfortunately, I am no longer playing as much as I used to (I only use Legere's now!) so no, I cannot help you. Keep up the good work. If you make your own reeds and get good at it, you will be ahead of the pack. Best always, Dileep

A little verbal instruction would be much more helpful than a beautiful music.

Oboe players have to make reeds. Why would anyone want to go through that torture if they could purchase good clarinet reeds ????

"If they could purchase good clarinet reeds" That's the tough assumption.
