It's eye-opening to learn about the complexities of managing halibut stocks through international treaties and local regulations. The emphasis on sustainable fishing practices and the challenges posed by bycatch underscore the importance of responsible seafood consumption.

@10:20 Could not believe that fish was still alive. After being filleted one side it still managed to flip itself off the table only to be picked up and have several incisions on its other side and still had to be thrashed on the head to calm it down. The pain and suffering these poor things go through without having been stunned first is unbelievable.

It's very sad to see it takes many years for the fish to grow but it takes few minutes to destroy it.

Those fish are not halibut. The dragger fleets catch the most halibut. NOAA has cut the longline r quotas by almost 90%. The dragger fleet fishes the catcher processor fleet quotas they have not had their quotas cut to date. Probably because Bill Clinton and family own the Tyson Seafood catcher processor fleet and also appointed NOAA in charge of managing the North Pacific ground fish industry.

In this video he talks about halibut but in Hawaii Tuna is a huge market, with fleets going out and catching them, yellow fin, blue fin or skip jack ,any type and in the winter months the Japanese people come and buy up the market and have them air lifted back to Japan for consumption as tuna is prized for sashimi and sushi.Everything in Japan is imported because it's a tiny country because of it's land mass but in Hawaii the Japanese people come with their Yen,convert it to dollars and spend their time in WAIKIKI as Hawaii is tropical it's very warm.In Japan unlike Hawaii doesn't have the same types of seafood that Hawaii does that's a big difference between the two places not just Tuna, the Japanese people consume a lot of seafood and beef and pork is extremely expensive so they eat that too and enjoy American food like having a a nice steak as meat in Japan is very rare doesn't happen and they don't care about Australia the Philippines or anywhere else straight to Honolulu international airport straight flight. And years ago they would wear money belts but that has changed because you have a lot of thieves looking for them and as a result HPD,has assigned more cops to the area.Even in Hawaii many things are shipped in from California on Matson lines except pineapples and sugar but those lands have changed from agriculture to residential and commercial because land in Hawaii is expensive but because of the economy many Hawaiian people are leaving and going to the lower 48 state's and it's a fact just look last year in Maui what happened fire swept though and destroyed parts of the island but the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT has stepped in with FEDERAL assistance ASAP.
