- First of what will probably be a lot of Aztec Camera uploads - from a Camden Market bootleg VHS courtesy of Bronagh in Belfast. Not the most brilliant quality but I couldn't see other copies on UA-cam. Contains the Birth of the True and Down the Dip.
Roddy is the most underrated and overlooked singer/songwriter/musician of the 1980's.
To this day I love running into Roddy Frame on UA-cam, what a treat. I probably play him every week since the early 80s. Haven’t yet found anyone similar. Pre FabSprout and ETBTG will always be the best of smart pop for me.
OMG I cant believe I’m watching this!!!
I left school in Glasgow in 1983 and saw them in the Barrowland Glasgow. He is amazing live !!!
I’m currently in the Gardenhall Inn, East Kilbride.
Great singer/songwriter and guitarist! Criminally underrated. This is Spring 1984 just before Knife album was recorded. I bought Knife on CD in 1988!
I come back and watch this video now and then. Funny to hear Roddy talk about "Knife" as the album he has yet to release. What a classic Album. It was one of the anthems of my teen years. Wore that tape down. Thanks Roddy!
Absolutely brilliant, seen Roddy many times and always enjoyed his music
Absolute class. So grateful I had this band in my life when I was 18. Roddy still moves me at 58, forty years on. Enjoy it kids, it goes fast...that is if there is anyone under 50 watching this. In that case, God bless you.
Apparently Johnny marr was living in the same Village at the same time but they never crossed paths.
timeless gems from our Roddy
So weird to see them discussing plans for the yet-to-be-recorded "Knife" album--which is now a more than 30-year-old classic!
wow, I remember watching this when it was first broadcast! Fab.
Thanks again for uploading this. Great to see Roddy back in his prime. And great to see how he's playing these songs so I can try and copy him.
Probably my favourite songwriter.
Theres 33 chords in oblivious it takes a while to nail it but it achievable
You have great taste
✨ Maravilloso video. Grandes emociones...
Gracias Roddy Frame

Great seeing this old footage of Aztec Camera
This is the first time I'm hearing him speak and I had NO idea he had such an accent!
Flying ducks on the wall are worth some money now! 😂
I didn't even know compact discs were available in 1983, thought it was a couple years later.
sony introduced it in 1982, though apparently the idea existed in 79'
Wonder if he ever did buy a compact disc player!
Graeme Kirk Haha, yes he did. In the summer of 83 I was living in a fairly large flat in London with a bunch of music industry people including AC’s tour manager Reg. Roddy would come by occasionally and knowing I was an audiophile, asked my to help him get a new stereo. Then one day he just went out and bought some crappy rack system, including a CD player, on impulse. He seemed a bit embarrassed that he had ignored my advice and just bought this thing. I also remember when Craig Gannon came down with his mum to audition for the band. It was his first time traveling to London, such a young kid.
Oh my! I've just been transported back in time! Thanks so much for this! I love it!
awesome!!! Roddy at his best!
Our Neil Young
Knopfler ruined the Knife album by slowing down every song. The album was terrible.
Does anyone know who the interviewer is on this clip?
Tony Fletcher.
So love this!!
Nothing underrated about Aztec Some folks need years to catch it "That's all folks"
The Birth of the True. A contemporary Scottish folk song.
Always was a class act!
