- In 1918, the world got affected by influenza sweeping across nations. What measures did we take to slow its advance? What did we fail to implement? How did we learn from it? And how does it compare to the current pandemic? Let’s get into it.

“The 1918 pandemic lasted 3 years”
Me: well I guess there’s another 3 year pandemic in history now
Not quite but I mean who knows could be longer
Kind of
4 years
😂😂😂 exactly what I was thinking too
The future generations will likely look back on this outbreak and see the dissent, the division, the propaganda and the use of force. They'll probably think of us as uneducated, panick-stricken, impetuous and illogical. And they'd be right. This Era, this generation, has a difficultly in learning from the past. A great resistance in acknowledging reality and accepting the obvious.
you are betting on the fact that future generation will be more enligthed which sadly might not be the case .
You are silly to classify this as a pandemic. Why havent the funeral homes called in reinforcements?
Unless of course, we're at the beginning of the movie 'Idiocracy'. I mean, it's literally playing out right in front of us.
@@johnroberts1734 you are the only person who said pandemic, but having said that , it's a pandemic. Grow up
I dont know about future generations, the younger ones are applauding serial killers and murderers and feeling they should be free because they were bullied and it wasnt their fault, so not the brightest. If they will educate their children like this, then there is no hope for brighter future generations.

@@fabiodemon884 yeah nah you guys are way too kissie for covid19
Seriously pisses me off that in 2020 we weren’t able to swiftly contain covid at the start when we know about our history. The fact that people are too mentally fragile to take a virus seriously is astounding.
people seem to forget the past and repeat it over and over and over for some reason.
You gotta realise, that while we do have significantly more advanced technology, and understand viruses more than ever, it is now significantly harder to contain & prevent viruses.
Yep, and some so called world leaders who call it a HOAX, and it will disappear when the weather warms..... Sorry, but aggravating and true.
Star Kihira that's what happens when history lessons are eradicated from the school curriculum
That fact that you think a world can shut down and that won't cause deaths is astounding
What I like about this video is that you didnt get political, not even a hint, nor did you try to change minds or anything like that. You told facts and left it for people to process. No blame game, no political stances, none of that. Bust cold hard facts. Much respect.
I truly appreciate it
Facts is what matter and he presented it
Generally agree, although "facts" is taking it a bit far. There are several things that could be debated. And the ball was dropped more than once.
It is political… after all we all know it was a Chinese lab that released this pathogen….
But hey the media…. Can do what ever they want with the real truth…
Indeed. Journalism used to be like this.
People often overlook the fact that there were massive famines going on world wide in 1918. Starvation created vulnerability .
And, a broad lacking education in regards to blood borne pathogens and proper sanitization methods. Like polio and measles, things were just worse in the poor hygiene era. Today it’s poor diets and lacking exercise that creates immune system deficiencies, which grow into disease comorbidity’s. Today, we are being forced to take an experimental medical device because a large population has allowed themselves to grow weak and disease riddled, becoming susceptible to nature’s constant push for “survival of the fittest”, which has been the consistency we’ve literally been created on since time began. We just think we’re godlike, and, are ignorant enough to think we can fix the problem, while being the problem…
@@bobbyauvil9885 who's being forced? They'll have problems "forcing" me to accept this "vaccine"
@@bobbyauvil9885 Here in South Africa the third wave mostly targeted the 30- 50 year olds. There were also several fit 30 year olds who died within days of testing positive. Not everything fits your pattern.
More people died of starvation last year globally than of Covid 19. Starvation is still creating vulnerability.

You’re forgetting that travel in 1918 took forever to get anywhere. COVID-19 spread so fast because of all of the airplanes taking it to every corner of the world within 2 weeks.
1918 Spanish Pandamic was during World War 1 and that's why it spread very rapidly, and had 3 waves, In this Covid-19 we have only 1 or 2 waves but it depends on the vaccine, if a vaccine isn't out until 2021 expect 3 waves
@@bobbyt9431 better safe than sorry, especially living in the US with idiots that live in Florida
@@kishenkoolskills90 I dont think we will see waves like they did then because we are so much more mobile today then we were then and a virus spreads more quicker around the world because of that. And with covid, it is much sneakier because of its incubation period. I mean, you can have and spread it for up to 10 days before you even know you have it. So instead of waves, I see an exponential increase over time which Governments may be able to slow by implementing social distancing and mask wearing, but without 100 percent compliance, covid will continue to travel. Here in the US, watch out for July 4th, and the couple of weeks that follow. I have a feeling that that is the time when covid just starts to kick into gear, meaning we are just in the very beginning of this, and God help everyone if covid mutates into something more deadly, just like the spanish flu did.
R S Yes. The polio vaccine for example.
kishenkoolskills90 in the US, we are still in the first wave. People keep talking about 2nd, but nope still in the first.
The Spanish flu never went away. It's just considerably weaker now.
oh good. so you can blame the US for it.. it originated at Camp Funston in Kansas, United States
Your right, the spanish flu is a swine flu type A virus, the pandemic ended but the virus didn't went no where, its just that its weaker today and its hiding in pigs
That's probably because it's been around for so long, that our immune system has managed to deal with it. The same will happen with Covid, but it shouldn't take too long as global hygiene isn't as bad now as it was in the early 20th century.
Diseases never go away, well, for the most part. We only completely eliminated a handful of diseases from existence
Why?
Finally, someone informs people that pandemics are not a new phenomenon.
We actually all live with one, called influenza, but many get injected yearly to contain it.
@Mike Pondo stop spreading misinformation.
@@linkshellvendor Lol you can't call it misinformation simply because it goes against your confirmation bias.

@Mike Pondo i do believe that the vaccine is good and im fine with others getting it! heck my grandma got it! however i have already caught it multiple times and my body has naturally gotten over it with the use of my immune system and vitamins. i would not pressure people to ONLY take the vaccine but instead choose vaccine OR daily vitamins!
Irony: Spanish flu was actually something the Spanish can be proud of.
It was named because the Spanish did so well on reporting everything they could about it.
Honestly, yeah. I would be.
Made possible by the underreporting and denial of the USA. Thank you for 50+ million deaths
It started in Kentucky, in the USA the year before being seen in Spain.
@@John_Doe448 Underreporting from all wartime countries. Spain was a neutral country, and therefore not limiting information. There are 3 possible candidates of origination. The U.S.(at a military base), France (in the trenches), or China (a severe respiratory illness breakout in 1917 according to records)

@@acebalistic1358 Okay, that's a fair enough thing to do. Only other thing I would check before trusting one of those guys with "decades of medical experience" is, who are their bosses and what incentive do they have to say what they are saying. When testing isn't very extensive, and most people are asymptomatic, mortality rate is very difficult to measure accurately.
And then there is case fatality rate, which is quite a different thing.
@@wildreams Explain the difference. Intuitively I agree but I personally can't explain that difference.
Canadian national authorities are counting most dead people as deaths from covid-19, exaggerating death statistics tenfold.
@@_Not_Retarded Are you sure about that? Over here the death count is pretty high but the infection rate is not cause they only test people with clear symptoms. Making it seem like the disease is really deadly. But if everybody that carried the disease actually got tested, you would probably see that there are a lot more cases than reported.
Blood Angel my sister and her entire apartment that she lives in caught and kicked CCOVID 19. Symptoms varied but none of them died or even needed hospitalization. One of the girls’ boyfriends caught it and that’s how it got to them. Of this group of 10 people either 1 or 2 of them were tested at this time (04/21/2020).
If this is indicative of the level of testing Nationwide, as much as 9 times the population has already had the virus and none have been tested.
This would bring the death rate so far down that COVID19 begins to look like a particularly virulent and catching flu, but little else.
Was shutting down the world’s economy worth the cost to save the help the hospitals to save only about half of the severe cases? Would figuring out a hospice solution to ease the passing of the terminally ill cases whilst keeping the medical professionals safe be a more overall humane treatment for everybody? Could social distancing really be considered a viable sustainable solution to an issue like this? What could be done to improve the sustainability of that solution? What about the other solutions?
This depends entirely on how many people actually got it.

I work in the medical field, I've seen absolutely zero cases come thru despite being in what the government declared a hotspot and my pay has almost doubled.

There will be far greater pandemic waves across the world in the distant future compared to the covid19 we now have. Those will be far more severe. Yes history will repeat itself! Your generation thinks we've got everything covered? Think again.

for real imagine how much better the housing market will be.
I wish to go back in 2150
Because a lot of people will be dead by then.
Can I keep my parents?
I might be dead in 2025.
Its kind of weird watching this in Oct 2020 and death rates in the US are now nearing 7 times higher than April (and still growing), and we're starting act the same (some folks would say worse) then the credulous fearmongers of more than a century ago. I am sad.
0-19 3 deaths in 100,000 COVID cases
20-49 2 deaths in 10,000 cases
50-69 5 per 1000 cases
70+ 5 per 100 cases
So 70 year old have a 95 percent chance of survival what a pandemic
You need to recheck your facts
