#fishing #livebait #riverfishing #mullet #fisherman #fish In this clip I'm showing viewers how to keep Poddy Mullet alive for days and be successful at it.
Good one. I had a filter and a protein skimmer. I think I was overcrowding mine because they started to each other's tails. I thought it was because they were hungry, but apparently it was because they were overcrowded and started to attack each other. Even though I had your filter I still had to use a hose and get rid of the dead faeces on the bottom to avoid excess ammonia levels. Have you ever had issues with them attacking each? Cheers
I prefer to take fresh river water where I caught them from. No cooling system required. I store them in a cool dark place in the garage and they've been fine for a week before fishing.
From my experience they shit like demons and get pretty beaten up in transit. What would the mortality rate be on those you keep at home for future sessions?
Hey mate are you using cycled filter media in your filter to combat the ammonia? I’ve had aquarium for years, I have always thought to do something like this
Awesome, I just need a filter then, I only need to keep them for about 3 or 4 days, as I just like to catch them during the week, ready for the weekend how many times would I top the water and how much? Roughly' I'm using a simular 40L container
Filter is all that is needed, take with you roughly 40L of river water and the filter will clean out the debris whilst the aerator will keep the Mullet oxygenated. I've kept them alive like this for two weeks without topping up water
Before I head home I drain the water in the bucket first and then fill it up with fresh water. I also fill up 2 x 10L containers of water and when I get home I fill up the 40L of water in a storage container with aerator and filter running. Give it a few hours and the filter will clear up the water crystal clear.
Good job mate, thanks for the effort n the share. Appreciate.
Great set up mate. Thanks for sharing with us. 😃👍🐟🐟
Thank you, glad you liked the video 🙂
how long do you leave your traps out before you check up on them?
Traps can be full in 10 minutes on a good day sometimes it takes 30 minutes.
Great video, Awesome work mate, you put in the effort & you will get the results👍
Absolutely, gotta get out there and do the hard yards for best results, nothing comes easy
@@aft-fishing90 look forward to your next video

Glad you liked my video, I never had those issues with mine but I do make sure I don't over crowd as some still die.
Buy a decent container big enough for them to swim which I've found that helped and also reduced the mortality rate.
what do you use to feed them is there any particular fish food you use?
Gold fish pellets
great content mate
Thank you 🙂
I need any advice on salt water poddy mullet and introducing fresh water into the system?
Do you need a cooling system?

Hi, where along George’s river is a good spot to catch poddy mullet ?
I would try any sand bank along the river.
@ ok thanks, I’ll try today. Last time I tried to get the trap out I was knee deep in mud & was still too close
No need to go to deep, shallower the better
@ I found some today! Not sure if they’ll survive till tomorrow. Where can I find them windang/lake Illawarra
Do you have an aerator? If so they should be alive till tomorrow. Any sand bank there should hold a few poddies.

Put a check valve on that air pump 😅 could turn into a siphon

Yes exactly the set up you mentioned

Great tip, thanks! BTW you can have only one live bait trap in NSW
Glad you like it. I didn't know but will use one trap from now on next time.
@@aft-fishing90 👌 there is also a requirement to tag the trap with name and other info even if not left unattended. A bit extreme in my opinion 🤔
If you don't have the filter but have an aerator, will they still keep for a day or two?
You would need two good aerators and still need to flush out water and put cleaner river water to keep them alive for the two days
@@aft-fishing90 great thanks. Yes, they seem to be responding better now to clean water.
New Sub… yeeww!!
Awsome! Happy you subscribed to my channel 😀
How often do you feed your poddy mullet? Also is it harder to catch poddy mullet in winter?
I feed them twice a week but not too much. In winter they are harder to get but you'll still manage to get a few.
@@aft-fishing90 What do you feed them with?
Dry Sao crackers, but rub the biscuits so the fine grains fall onto the water. Not too much feed though.
how do you manage to leave the traps out without the seagulls harrassing your traps
Luckily there wasn’t any around at that time.
So what did you do with the river water, and how do you top it up? I was hoping you'd show that bit.
I poured enough river water in the storage container and kept the 20L bucket with the water to use as top up.
@@aft-fishing90 how do you top up if it’s full do you have to drain some first ? Or you shouldn’t feel it all the way up.
Before I head home I drain the water in the bucket first and then fill it up with fresh water. Then you get attached to them and they become aquarium fish :)
Yeah if you see it that way 🙂
Why do you have a chin diaper on?
Government enforcement.
