For me the 400 Mini is THE purchase, and I preordered immediately. The original 400 was my first computer as a kid (complete with tape drive), and my dad got a loan from his boss so he could afford to get it for us for Christmas. It wasn't a good computer by any means, but nostalgia colors everything. The first real computer I owned was the 800XL , complete with disc drive, dot matrix printer, and even a 300 baud modem that I used to connect with bulletin boards well before the internet was a thing. I'm hoping the mini will run almost everything, but if it works with _most_ 8-bit Atari computer games I'll be happy.
Compared to other second party pads or the NES pad that it's competing against it definitely feels spread too far apart to me. But maybe that's not an issue for other people. Just a thought of mine...
Atari did a lot since 2020 and did the most in 2023. So far, they've done a ton in 2024, and were still in Q1! It certainly is a great time for Atari! A-Freaking-TARI !!!!
Right! I heard the price is going to be pretty high but if they allow you to load roms via SD card and all the controls work great then I think it's well worth it. How cool will it be to actually play paddle games on the go!
I know right! I think as long as they don't skimp out on any components and let us load roms it'll be awesome. But if it's a premium price, we want a premium handheld!
Great video and congratulations on the channel blowing up this year. As far as it comes to that MyArcade Atari GSP, that’s 100% on my wait for others to review before picking up. MyArcade always has a lackluster feel on every product I’ve had in my hands from them. I hope for the people that want it it’s great but I’m not holding my breath. Again Great video
Thanks for the continued support. It's smart to make sure most products, especially those with less than stellar track records, are worth the money. Especially given the price of the portable right out of the gate!
A new retrospective channel subscriber and a longtime retro gamer from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮. I may meow mostly as a big retro fan of the Commodore 64 and Amiga 😺👍🕹️, but i also meow as a big fan of the 8- and 16-bit Atari games, mostly Atari 2600 😺👍🕹️. Your channel deserves a big retrospective like 😺👍🕹️. Thank you 😸😺👍🕹️.
Atari have RetroGamesLtd to thank for the 400 mini. A British firm taking the idea of mini consoles and computers and running with the idea. Can’t wait for the A500 maxi Amiga this Christmas .
Maybe its about time i sold my original mint condition asteroids cocktail cabinet ive owned since it was a year old. It sits in my front room with my lego rollercoaster on top, waiting for this Atari revival to get the sale price it deserves to tempt me to sell it after 44 years of being home cared for! Anyone else have any original Atari arcade cabinets in their collection? What woukd you sell for? They never come io for sale, so an idea of value that we all agree on woukd be awesome!
The new Atari is doing an excellent job on getting new things out. Can't wait for Atari 400 mini. To me it is a Godsend. I have tons of 8-bit programs as well as the 400, 800xl and 130xe. Am hoping that maybe an Atari ST mini as well as a Jaguar mini. Oh, I love my Atari VCS and the MY Arcade 2600 pocket player. Go Atari Go!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm deeply frustrated by Atari's lack of distrbution to Canada. You _cannot_ preorder things through their site if you don't live within the US. I just want a copy of Ninja Golf but it's literally not possible to order it. Very frustrating.
That's terrible. Why wouldn't they distribute to Canada!? Seems like it would be the easiest place for an American company to deliver and provide to. I wonder what's going on there...
I have a few original cx78+ controllers, the thumb stick it prone to fatigue and snapping. Having an XEGS and 130XE with an SIO2SD device (a modern must have) I have most of the games already but, the mini 400 does look like a must grab. The XL design language is however, is iconic.
I am very excited for the Atari Network gear. I did order NovaWolf and Desert Falcon from V61 and am eagerly awaiting for those games. I need to order from AtariAge as well, but the prior 6 months to get my last order has tried my patience. Out of the new Atari stuff, I would like to get a copy of Fatal Run. Am I am also considering the mini 400. Although I had a 2600 and lots of games, my parents never owned a computer, so that might be something different to buy. I didn’t get a computer until later in life.
My family didn't get our first computer until 1999. I believe they started selling them cheap because of the y2k scare and we could finally afford one. So I'm excited for the 400 mini because I missed out on all that too and people have been telling me to check it out! With the Atari Network gear I've been advised by a knowledgeable friend to take the Fuji out of my logo and to not include any Atari products. So the Atari Network logo will be slightly altered on UA-cam soon and the merch. The shirt with me and Vinnie will mostly be unchanged but the 7800 Pro Gamer shirt will have an artist rendition of their take on the 7800. But it'll be here about April I'd guess maybe March. Trust me AtariAge has tested everyone's patience but I promise they will honor their orders. I'm confident that Albert underestimated the quantity of orders and is probably past his limit. But he also shouldn't have announced more product either. It doesn't hurt to email him and ask for updates if you haven't received yours! Thanks for the support!
I am fine with alternations on the products and do not blame you. Thanks for sharing your computer story. And I’ll give AtariAge another go. Also I have tried the can version of GFuel. I would prefer it if you were on the can. I don’t know who in the world Pewdiepie is, but he is no 7800progamer!
I've pre-ordered a 400 Mini and a second controller. The Atari 400 was my first computer. I've been wanting an Atari 8bit mini computer since these things started. It's worth it just for Miner 2049er and MULE, but the fact I can load my own backed up ROMS is another great selling point. I just hope it has BASIC. That would be fun.
I've only just discovered Altirra, the Atari everything emulator, which does basic, and can load programs in an instant (in warp speed mode) It can, if you prefer, also emulate the speed of cassette drives like the 410, the sounds of the motors and bad sector searching sounds of the 1060 or 810 floppy drives. It will emulate NTSC or pal games and applications. Coupled with ROM sites, you can play or use games and apps like S.A.M etc. Maybe play around with that while you are waiting. You can also remap your own keyboard controls, or Bluetooth controllers, etc
Im hoping that atari makes a deal with namco bandai to rerelease pacman ms pacman, digdug, pole position, and galaga for the atari. My arcade announced a mini pole position machine that looks cool. Great video🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I have to admit, I'm intreaged by the 400 mini. I've been accumulating mini consoles over the past year-ish and am interested because I've never dabbled in the Atari PC line growing up
I pre-ordered a couple. of CX78 and 2 carts, I already have Food Fight cart so the others are great.. Also I would love to get some merch from your channel ! plz do let us know when those are available!
Will do. I'm reworking the designs to try to avoid any copyright issues like having the 7800 on the one shirt be an artist rendition and altering the Fuji on my logo. And the nice thing about the labels for the new carts is they are in color where some of the originals were not. It's all cool stuff but I think a small group of people will want something more NES like for controllers.
What if there’s a hello kitty and friends Atari collaboration? Imagine the merchandise like remakes of Atari 2600 games starring hello kitty and friends for Atari 2600 plus and multiple systems, t-shirts, plushes, and more..
Very much an outsider looking in and idk if this is at all a decent place to ask but are there any good Atari Lynx systems out? Definitely the system that intrigues me most in their catalogue next to the Jaguar.
I have a couple real ones, I put a mcWill screen in one, but have one to I stall for the other. I need to re cap both while I do the next screen. They are really good systems. The best arcade ports albeit low res. Original 3rd party stuff was good too like warbirds linked together with friends was a blast during lunch at work. The controls on them sucked bad. Mushy. Id buy a remake if they improved the controls and out it on a kow carb diet. It was too big and light, feels cheap. Needs to be thinner and more stout. I'm ok with same group size since I have large hands. Aside from these complaints it's my favorite Atari system. The most good games of any of their consoles.
At over $100 for a handheld it really should have Jaguar compatibility. There’s no reason a console that expensive can’t have a Jag emulator. Atari 50 is the only legal way to own and play Jaguar games without owning a Jaguar, and it would be nice if something with the Atari brand on it could actually run that stuff. Why the f*** not?!
I think best electronic will be fine. Their business is mostly selling hard to find parts and pieces to Atari consoles and computers. They've always been a niche company and they'll continue that role until the owner calls it quits or finally runs out of inventory...
The Lag that emulation consoles have is unacceptable. These officially released consoles that charge over $80 should all be FPGA consoles that respond like the original hardware. Game Play is KING.
I notice it on all the mini consoles I own (SNES & Genesis) and I have the major emulators on my PC where there's noticeable lag even on the simplest 8 bit games. Lag and glitches that never happened on the original games.@@aztekno2012
Actually the mini 400 has no lag I can detect or that impacts gameplay in any way. And I have 4 working 800xl’s and two 600xl’s - with REAL hardware - not FPGA. So I know how it should behave. It’s great to have a tiny console to play games on which takes less real estate. It’s not going to replace my real hardware - but it’s indistinguishable in experience when playing original games.
Ah man, i was all set to buy a 400 mini, being an og owner of a 400, ,410, 1060, 600xl, all expanded as far as possible.. I have a ridiculous amount of games on multiload discs that my friends an I amassed back in the day.. It all still works, and all plays through my modern tv through the satellite in connection (whatever thats called, lol) But now ove been reminded of the handheld, I am gonna have to wait to see if thats expandable beforeni buy the 400 mini. This might be an own goal for Atari, as people may be like me and decide on one or rhe other, and wait for the handheld before they buy the mini, stalling sales for months
Actually? It's a shame, the Ataribox (VCS) is actually an emulation beast!!! Forget the "Atari" portion of it. Slap a copy of Windows or Linux Ubuntu on, and you now have a box that plays damn near everything from Pong to PS2. Add 16gb of RAM and an M.2 SSD, and you can even play over half of the Steam Library as well!! It's a very capable machine when the right emulators and software is added. Also, the Atari 110 in one machines have SD card slots and can easily play the entire library of 2600 titles. It's a good machine sadly brought into a VERY crowded market.
Maybe it the new VCS does well enough, Atari can maybe try their hand at an actually more modern type of console, one at least more powerful than the Jaguar, which let's be honest was barely more advanced than the 16-bit consoles at the time.
You do know that the paddle controller, the driver controller, and the spinner controller were all different? One would rotate back and forth, to a stop point, one would rotate round and round forever, and the spinner would free spin on its own. Just having a knob is not having a spinner. Tempest is not really tempest without a true spinner and trying to use a paddle controller for a driving game does not really work right. Atari and the various clones need to figure out how to get the various controllers right. I'm still hoping for a true Tempest spinner. (And Missile Command needs a track ball). To relive the Atari experience, you need proper controllers.
No matter how cool atari and no matter how a big fan i became to atari recently, my problem is that atari is focussing their selfes waaay too much in the past, why couldn’t they start to go a new direction like trying to compeat against sony or microsoft? Yes i know it’s easier said then done and there might be not much demand for it as of now,but we have already seen sooooo many atari flashback systems, another problem with me about atari is that they now come with repro stuff from the past such as a rectengular 7800 controller, extension cables and games, thus artificially inflating those games and accessoireses to became more availible,it sounds cool on paper but if i want to have an original copy of a game or accessoire from the 80’s but ibstead buying a repro version of it instead because of not being able to destinguish those them from each other being made at a different time frame, well that’s disgusting to me, Last time i wanted to buy a original game & watch handheld from the 80’s ,troughing that only gameboy stylish revisions of them were made in the late 90’s,but then once i came accross at a decent price to only found out that after i bought it, that it was a repro from 2010,i was a bit disappointed about this, wondering why i didn’t knew about those official repros of it for such long time, damnit🙁
I think the majority of Atari console games were pretty boring which is why none of them have done very well since the 2600. The computer line however should have seen more ports to their consoles. For a modern retro system, I'd rather see their top titles from their entire computer line all in one system. Maybe an ST modeled case that includes some greats from 400, 800, falcon, ST etc.

Mr Run and Jump for the Atari 2600. You can grab it off Amazon. It's cartridge form so you'll need a 2600,7800 or 2600+
2600 was my first game console

I think best electronic will be fine. Their business is mostly selling hard to find parts and pieces to Atari consoles and computers. They've always been a niche company and they'll continue that role until the owner calls it quits or finally runs out of inventory...
We need Atari ST and Felcon next, but at least I can play Ultima 1-4 on the 400

New Show/Segment idea: New 2600+ joysticks vs. Decathlon or Track & Field. Those games destroy controllers.
That's not a bad idea actually
Feel free to run with it. Throw me n a few other tough games
Zero Sugar toxin right
I hope they actually work. The non working vcs should've brought them a lawsuit

No matter how cool atari and no matter how a big fan i became to atari recently, my problem is that atari is focussing their selfes waaay too much in the past, why couldn’t they start to go a new direction like trying to compeat against sony or microsoft? Yes i know it’s easier said then done and there might be not much demand for it as of now,but we have already seen sooooo many atari flashback systems, another problem with me about atari is that they now come with repro stuff from the past such as a rectengular 7800 controller, extension cables and games, thus artificially inflating those games and accessoireses to became more availible,it sounds cool on paper but if i want to have an original copy of a game or accessoire from the 80’s but ibstead buying a repro version of it instead because of not being able to destinguish those them from each other being made at a different time frame, well that’s disgusting to me,
Last time i wanted to buy a original game & watch handheld from the 80’s ,troughing that only gameboy stylish revisions of them were made in the late 90’s,but then once i came accross at a decent price to only found out that after i bought it, that it was a repro from 2010,i was a bit disappointed about this, wondering why i didn’t knew about those official repros of it for such long time, damnit🙁
Looks cool but im too old for Atari 2600 crap.
first
How did you beat me to comment in my own video?
@@TheAtariNetwork Working in IT ;)
The handheld is absolutely ridiculous. There are dozens and dozens of better handhelds that specialize in emulation and can emulate the 2600.
But do they have keypad control for 5200 games?
@@TheAtariNetwork They have virtual keypads or you can map buttons to the most used keypad buttons.
@@tarstarkusz good point!
@@tarstarkuszToo much work.
@@mrmojorisin8752 How is it too much work? I have several that can do it and they are trivially easy to set up.
It smells of boomer here in the comments.
That's Aqua Velva actually. It's a classy cologne for a sophisticated man.
Boomer… try more like 80’s kids of boomers…..grow up disaster
Archaic stuff belongs in the trash. I would only buy brand new jaguar stuff
Jaguar isn't archaic?
@@TheAtariNetwork oh no.basically nes onward are decent systems
Nothing but more of the same boring retro release stuff from atari how boring
