    • @weswheel4834
      @weswheel4834 6 років тому +135

      I don't know about that. Acaster is I think a comedy genius, but improv usually involves improvising when given a subject, not changing the subject. Your comment reminded me of the video 'NTNOCN - Schoolboy & Headmaster (parrot) - Rowan Atkinson' (my aunt who I live with had a parrot). Acaster was comedy gold here but not really improv in my book :)

    • @no_genius
      @no_genius 6 років тому +321

      Tony Flies no-one's doing improv here, they're just using material they've already got that vaguely fits the subject. Acaster's just being more obvious about it, which is why it's funny

      It's what pretty much every comedian does. They are fairly vague topics on purpose. They tend to just segway into whatever part of their routine fits the topic.
      ... Or if you're James Acaster you just go for some random unrelated topic from your repertoire.

      Big grater for on pasta, small grater for high surface are like for a sauce, slice for slice, and finally the aggressive side. It should not exist.

    I wonder what it's like being a comedian and then watching this kid start riffing off the cuff material you couldn't write on your best day.

    • @brunosmith6925
      @brunosmith6925 5 років тому +64

      You can be sure, that like all comedy genuises, this stuff is well-rehearsed. He's very good at off-the-cuff one-liners too - but these stand-up routines are practiced for hours. He makes it look like he's winging it, but that's why he's so good.

    • @emmajarvis590
      @emmajarvis590 5 років тому +27

      yeah. i've heard him use some of these jokes in other places before. probably part of why the things he talked about were pretty tangential to the topics - he was pulling out stuff that he's already practised. still very impressive and well done but definitely not invented on the spot

      I'm glad others have pointed out that not much of these shows is actually "off the cuff" but they're very clever nonetheless to come up with the material initially.

    Wonder on panel shows how much material is just directly lifted from their standup
