Aggression is managed, newer cured. So true! I had an human aggressive dog for 12 years, it took a ton of work and he tought me so much. His last years were fantastic we knew what boundaries and limitations we needed to have. I just wish I had known his teachings before I got him as a puppy so I could have helped him faster.

This morning a pitbull type dog jumped its fence and charged at me and my greyhound and thanks to you, neither one of us were injured and the dog did not make contact. I’m a dog groomer and I listen to your podcasts while I’m working quite often. I would not have known what to do if it weren’t for your videos.

Going at charging animals is a good tip (very simplified phrasing here). I was out with my brother and a friend of his, and a cow charged us because she was separated from her calf. I went straight into my animal-person mode and made myself big, made noises and clapped, and went towards her. That made her unsure and she backed down. We then just quietly left, leaving her to her back to her calf. I was very proud at that moment, because the others looked like they were preparing to die 😂

My hubby was outside with our dog and I thought he was watching him. Unbeknownst to me, he decided to shovel snow. My 4 year old male malinois heard my neighbor scraping ice off of her windshield (she is a stranger to him) and he charged her, hackles up, barking like hell which obviously scared her. She jumped back and he nipped her on the leg pretty good. Broke skin but she didn't need stitches, thankfully. We are very lucky that she didn't sue us! Got a visit from animal control and the whole 9 yards. Clearly he is a reactive dog but I assume this also makes him aggressive? When he is introduced to strangers in our home, we don't have any issues. And yes, we are seeking out a skilled trainer that is specific to this breed.
My Neice got a pit bull mix from a rescue organization that got the dog from Animal Control in L.A. Found roaming the streets streets of LA. She has tried to work with dog but has a full-time job, husband and 10 yr old daughter. The dog has bitten several people in the family, not too badly, but last week bit my mom at her knee. No provocation , she’s 85! Now no one trusts the dog and she doesn’t know how to move forward . Can this be managed?
Thank you for taking the time to help dogs and us the dog owners. I would like to share my concern with my dog's newly developed aggressive behavior and ask your expert opinion on how to overcome this issue. We tried training with professional dog trainer. We tried calming chewables. Dog's desensitization music 24/7 .Nothing helps. It's a female dog, 4 years old. She is very affectionate and very loving and we never had really any behavior issues with her until last year when we had to travel and we took her to a doggy hotel for 3 days. Well recommended animal hotel with good reputation. That was the first time my dog was separated from us. Right after we took her back from the hotel we noticed that she started exhibiting frequently fear. I have a cat that was first in the house. After those 3 days of separation when my dog gets stressed out by hearing people walking outside close to the house or sudden loud noises she starts barking that turns into growling, back ripped and than she goes after our cat in a very aggressive manner. Despite that there never was any incidents with biting. Never.. Not with the cat or anyone else. My dog never expressed any aggressive behavior until that stay in the dog hotel last summer. We just seem uncapable to solve this issue with anything we tried. When she's with her dog trainer and us she doesn't exhibit fear being out of the house nor she's bothered much by people passing by. At this moment we're at the point where we cannot take her out for a walk once it get dark. She's shaking and refusing to go out. I know there must be a cure/solution for this fear and the aggression but I don't know what that would be. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.
I have a French bulldog and just got a German Shepherd 4 months ego. I have been sleeping with the German Shepherd in the living room while my wife sleeps with the Frenchie. I am going back to the bed tomorrow. My back is killing me lol all I talk about is dogs. The dogs started to love each other. The Frenchie is definitely agressive one but the Sheppard is the prankster/class clown.
I recently learned a nearby elderly neighbor is living with " an attack dog" (pit) for protection. I don't really know what this terminology is supposed to mean. I walk my 3 yr. old GS rescue twice daily in this area. She is reactive and vet diagnosed her with fear aggression. She's doing well on prong collar and "leave it" command. No more lunging when seeing a dog. She now chooses to remain calm 90% of the time because I've learned corrections and trained myself to be more calm while walking her. If barked at -- she'll respond back with a bark. But the idea of that pit getting out the door and coming after my dog ( or me) is horrifying to imagine. Any thoughts? Carry pepper spray? A stick? Thank you!
My beagel mix, a happy ,gentle and goofy dog, was attacked Sunday by a lot bull-husky mix while we were on a walk in our neighborhood.. I got bit on the finger trying to separate them. Of course, i,ve gotten us both medical care and she will be fine physically, but ima wondering if you have any advice on how to help her mentally as she gets well and we start walking again.
If your puppy gets hurt on his own while near you, or you step on his toe, should you own it by trying to console him? or should you disconnect yourself from his pain, as not to connect the negative with the relationship?
Anytime I accidentally hurt my dogs, I respectfully and caring lo apologize and give a pet. If they are to rambunctious and hurt me by running into me, I either guide into a soft bite or quieter play, or correct them by telling them to stop. They learn that they’ve hurt me and need to play softer unless we’re out in field training for it. House play is gentle, work play is tough.

Perfect stay can take time, it depends on the dog. My dog is 16 months old, he is close but he still has high drive. He will stay for few minutes but I will to reinforce the stay. He is bettter with the place command, there he will stay 30 mins or more. He is close though to perfect stay.
I’ve been hearing a lot about pleasure growling lately. Dog bares teeth, deep growl, and then when they stop petting the dog nudges their hand to get close to them, then starts growling and baring teeth when they start petting again. Thoughts?
I wish you'd said which breed--my neighbor's Husky does that sometimes, along with all sorts of weird vocalizations--but occasionally growls & bares teeth at same time he's begging for petting!
Our neighbors alarm was going off & another neighbor wanted to make sure her house wasnt on fire. I told him she has 3 dogs which made us worried for their safety but also for ours. The neighbor went into their yard and the big dog broke thru the window and attacked him. This dog always tries to crash thru the front window whenever we walk by. (Its some type of boxer mix) I dont have a question I'm just still horrified by what happened so I had to tell someone. The guys arm and face were mangled but he felt like it was his own fault, which i guess it was right?
That really sucks. I hope your neighbor is okay. Hopefully the dog is safely kept contained so that it doesn't attack anybody else. I understand it was trying to guard its property.
I wish dog attack victims would stop blaming themselves. Dogs shouldn't be trying to kill people on what they think is their territory, which is as far as they can see. It is a humans job to teach the dog not to do anything unless it is told to. In most places you can't kill someone just for stepping in your yard. How would you get mail delivered etcetera?

BTW, you talk about corrections in different videos, but e.g. if dog barks/lunges at people/dogs, do you take different approach in how to deal with it depending on whether it's fear driven reaction or not? If it's out of fear, do you still use corrections? I would be worried if dog is scared of dogs/people and you'd punish it in that situation, it could get worse instead of better?!
While deployed to Afghanistan I witnessed a handler and his BM come on the aircraft with no issues. The next stop we opened the aircraft with engines running and passengers getting on and off the plane. During all the movement and noise the dog turned and bit the handler. As fast as it happened the dog immediately let go, but the guys arm was bleeding a good bit. The handler seemed unfazed by it. The dog was calm immediately after the incident. It was the strangest thing.

Robert has worked in different areas of the dog world and I like his sincere honesty and blunt approach. Now , regards my hair. It is in fact Red, not pink. It shows differently depending on how you have the contrast settings set up on your viewing device. Thank you for your feed back. Hi, I have a young 7month old female Malinois which is fearful aggressive towards many things as pushchairs, other dogs, joggers, kids, and all people dressed with fluo bright colors. Can u tell me a good solution?
My GSD dog had a litter of 9 puppies. At 6 weeks they were playing and my 1/2 mal/GSD loves to play with them. I had the puppy food pan out because they are more kibble watching or eat. My 1;2 mal who didn’t resource garde gave a pup a good. I’m and growl and it ran away howling. Before I knew what happened, I was over that dog, she ran when she saw me coming, and I grabbed her scruff and scolded her. Momma bear massively took over. I told her she would never ever touch a puppy again with a low serious voice. I let her go and didn’t even want to look at her I was so disappointed. I watched her like a hawk from then on. She was wondering and delighted every moment with the pups from then on. I only had the food pan down when I could watch. She stayed away when pups ate. She ended up grieving as much or more than mom dog when new family’s picked their pups up.

I groom too!! We see lots of mismanaged pit bulls for nail trims, and these pods have taught me so many warning signs

Probably not without a serious trainer. Doesn’t sound good to me.

I trained my dog to be a service dog. He brings me my beer.

My gsd is 5yo. We’re still working on it, lol. I no longer expect perfection, just a minute or two.
I've been bitten by lots of breeds. Almost everything EXCEPT Bully breeds. They seem to LOVE me!
