The Humboldt Ave Transfer -Along the Former Soo Line in Minneapolis and Saint Paul!- J42

- One of the more colorful, and interesting trains to see in the Minneapolis and Saint Paul area is The Humboldt Avenue Transfer. This train is also called The HAT, or is job title, J42. Usually rating older power, this is a train to catch with a mix of older, interesting EMD power!
Train J42 runs from CPKS's Saint Paul Yard, over to Humboldt Yard in North Mpls, and back every day of the week. Since this is a transfer, you can see just about ANYTHING on it. We'll chase this train from Saint Paul Yard up to Soo Line Jct, Cardigan Jct, New Brighton, down Shoreham Hill, The Mississippi River, and end just outside of Humboldt Yard. All along the way we'll see trains roaring by in Run 8, tackling stiff grades, and working in ALL seasons and types of weather. SD40-2s, former Soo Line SD60s, GP38-2s, and lots of KCS power mixed in to top it all off!

Great video! Locals are my favorite trains to photograph.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the video! Locals are always fun to catch, and have so much variety to offer too.
I grew up in these areas seems like a blast of the past seeing these EMDs on the rails again
Very cool; did you happen recognize any of these locations? Thanks for watching!
I saw the KCSM 2025 EMD on that J19 this morning on the Newport Cam!
Neat to see! Those KCS geeps get around, and seem to find their way onto pretty much everything. Thanks for watching!
Great shots of mixed consists. I bet I played this video 5 times tday!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video; and I am so happy to hear it was enjoyed! :)
I do love seeing this train! I see it all the time going through the new hope and crystal area.
Awesome channel great video keep them up make sure you like and subscribe thank you for your support I need all feedback on my train videos thank you
Thank you for the kind words! If you're seeing it in New Hope and Crystal, that's likely a different train. Perhaps its the MN&S? Thanks for watching!
We have some nice videos. I noticed the trains in Minnesota go a little slower than the trains in Missouri and California.
Thank you so very much for the kind words! These ones go a little slower since they're not out on the main. Out on the main, they MOVE. Thanks for watching!
While it would add extra work to the videos, it would be cool to have a map of some kind to help illustrate where the train is as it travels along. Still enjoyed watching it.
I agree; a map would be a cool addition! I'm looking into how I can do it without getting a copywrite hit for using one.
Thank you for watching the video!
Wondered where 3002 went when I saw it go south while back from Winnipeg.
The 3002 has been hanging around the Twin Cities for a little while now! Thanks for watching!
I've worked at that Cemstone plant.
Very cool; that place can ben BUSY!
4:35That's some real talent there
Agreed! I do NOT like graffiti at all, but those cars are STUNNING! Thank you as always for watching, and your kind words.
Very nicely done, have you ever chased the Dresser Turn at all?
VERY many times, and I've got loads of those videos on my channel, with Soo power too! Look up "Dresser turn SD457500", and you'll see a lot of videos. Thanks for watching!
Really enjoyed this one thanks for sharing with us
Glad you enjoyed the video! This is a neat daily train to catch, and has neat power. Thanks for watching!
love the screaming EMDs and a amtrak dash 8!! 2 in one nice video i love locals!
Great video like usual man! I recognize the KCS Geep (2973) at 9:29 since it was brought up on 247 from bensenville (and KCS geeps are very uncommon to find on the road in my area).
Thank you for the kind words, and glad to hear you enjoyed it! A number of those KCS units have made their way up here, and I want a matched set of them to be put together. Hopefully it happens soon!
I've gotten most of these engine's on J37 in Rosemount. I do have a video coming out with KCS2025 constantly smoking in the night in Rosemount and natural lens flare thanks to the Christmas lights still on the trees and how cold it was reflecting off my camera on January 14th.
I wish that J37 would run in the daylight hours again, vs under the cover of darkness. It was always neat to see and shoot! Thanks for watching!
@SD457500 Yeah, they are usually here at night. Had two SD30s last night at 9:30
I do love J42 with their EMDs working real hard! Just got her on Saturday, actually!
@Railfantastic So you also caught them with KCS 2025 leading then!? It's always neat to see the working up hill. Thanks for watching!
Another excellent video, love it.
Appreciate you watching, thanks for the comment, and watchning!
Seeet video like seeing some older power
It really is, and I hope this older power sticks around for a LONG time yet. Thank you for watching!
Great video on j42 train
I'm glad you enjoyed the video; thanks for watching!
@@SD457500 your welcome
Auto drivers never seem to understand the train's power and potential issues that could endanger them.
I have seen WAY too many close calls by drivers over the years...you'd think they'd exercise MORE caution. :/
😊👍
Glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for watching!
What kind of mic do you use on your camera?
I wonder what locomotives those are 2:22
Lead unit? That was a GP20C-ECO; or are you talking about the trailing power?
The trailing locomotive
I wonder if some of those in the world of politics (naming no names 😇) know that trains from both Canada and Mexico work through the whole U.S. from north to south. Dear me, he'd have a fit if he knew 😇
We shall see how it all goes! I think 2025 will be an interesting ride. :p
