I always struggle to find the words to explain the feeling I get from fly fishing. I have seen a million photos, watched thousands of hours of video and read hundreds of articles. No one comes close to explaining it. But you somehow in the telling of your stories you capture that feeling. Hats off to you Mr Nylinder you are a brilliant artist.
Faceless Fly Fishing amen on that one. We are blessed to have this kind of spokesperson for such a difficult job to do it any justice!! Spot on! Rolf rules... oh yah and Marcus
Your work is wonderfully artistic, truthful, and detailed. Please don’t ever stop, there is nothing as unique as your style of storytelling. It is art depicting art.
Why on earth would anyone down thumb this absolutely beautiful bit of film? I’m not even that interested in fishing myself but I found myself captivated by this. Japan truly is the most travel-able place on earth.
Seriously. Why would anybody dislike this beautifully crafted piece of audiovisual art. That said, if you are into fly fishing for trophy fish only, you’re missing the point. The biggest mistake made about (fly-)fishing is that it is about catching fish. Keep up the good work, Rolf. I knew that the GH5 would skyrocket your work. Greatly appreciated.
This was simply the best fly fishing story telling I've watched on UA-cam. I would love to see you fly fish for rainbow and brown trout in New Zealand one day, I think you would have an amazing time filming breathtaking scenery and fish! Cheers for sharing
This is to good to be on UA-cam to be honest. You deserve at least 2 more zeros after the views number. This isn´t just about flyfishing, it´s so much more. I had to tell my wife to be quiet while i was watching this one. No urge to look on my Iphone or anything that usually happens while watch fishing on UA-cam. I am not an art guy, but this is art that i understand. Brutalt bra Rolf!
i stumbled upon your channel by accident, and i find the quote at 6:15 "Fly fishing is supposed to be beautiful sport, so act accordingly. Even if you dont see the fish, the fish might see you..." strangely beautiful...
Nice movie! This film sure represents the typical days of fly fishing in Tohoku, Japan. The music is perfectly matching to it. Great job, and come back to Japan again!
I love the calmness of your videos. Fantastic camera work, great stories, this stuff makes me feel like I do when I'm on the water! The song at the end is also really cool, you're a real artist man!
A beautiful creation Rolf that encapsulates the true magic of Japan and these uniquely beautiful fish. Of all of the destinations, fish I can visit or have visited, these fish and the destination is at the top of my fishing bucket list. You've captured it, in my eyes, perfectly.
Wow, so interesting that last fish hooked itself on the line before the strike. Never seen that before in fly fishing. And thanks for all your amazing films.
Tack Rolf. Dina berättelser är underbara. Du sa att du hade svårt att få avslut på dina projekt i en annan film och det förstår jag. Denna film känns som du ängat minst ett år på att producera.
I think that it is a good introduction to fly fishing that developed uniquely in Japan. I look forward to seeing you in the future. Please do your best. From Japan's Fly Fisher.(^^)
Ralph again you have excelled with your innovative and creative production. A pleasure to watch the moods from Over crowded cities, the peace and tranquility intertwined with beauty with a hint of humour ;)
So glad I stumbled across your channel. Thee best video editing I have ever seen in my opinion. I’ve been looking into some college courses on video editing and this just gives me so much inspiration. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us!
Very well done. I love how your storytelling style of cinematography has developed. The Shaku Song made me smile. Especially the last verse! Cheers buddy!
How talented can a man be.. what a story and how it`s been told. Music and song.. everything. It really blew my mind.Best stuff in UA-cam..i agree with mr Jacobson.
Nothing better than getting into fly fishing and discovering your work simultaneously Rolf. Where else can I listen to the Shaku song at the end of the film? Need to add it to a playlist. :)
Hey, now. There are plenty of dry-fly purists in America, as well as lots of us Japanese wannabe Tenkara addicts. I would have thrown a Sakasa Kebari for the spirit of it. Fantastic cinematography, it was a treat to watch! Good luck next time!
Great piece. Captures the feel of Japanese mountain rivers and the vibe of the folks who fish there perfectly. Also chuckled at the line "...you were not quite Shaku" :) I'm fighting the egotistical urge to share pics of my shaku yamame and iwana just now, so I need a minute to compose myself...Paul (PS really enjoy my copy of "Only the River Knows" - thanks for the opportunity to purchase it.).
The most immersive one yet! Such a positive vibe :) Anyways, three practical (kinda) takeways: 1. If I ever go fishing there (which I won't ;)), the landing net is not required - there will probably be one stuck somewhere in the higher grass or on the bush branches, judging by how they all carry theirs without safety. 2. Japanese creeks are as crowded as their cities. 10 (?) guys on the same stream! 3. Just look at this global air conditioner company light board (or whatever) at 02:09... They really like this seemingly childish, cutesy symbolism much more than I realised. Cool.
Rolf Nylinder I have discovered your wonderful, artistic, films and I can honestly say nobody presents fly fishing with the grace and honesty that you do. One question, what type of camera do you use? Thanks for the great work!
taking a bath, back to work this morning. like every morning. but each day, one day closer to the opening of streams. i have finished my coffee now. and enjoying a song not unlike some of the best tracks on Bruce Springsteens Nebraska but about a japanese fish. thank you for films that make the winter a little easier to get through. i will make sure to cast a dry fly with your name on it before the run off gets to high. god bless. j.
Again and again Rolf, you did an extraordinary work. Thank you so much, really, and keep continue to makes movies like that ! I think we can help you if you need to finance you re next project
I loved this film! As someone who has been hunting a shaku sized Appalachian brook trout in the Southeast United States, this hits home. I'm curious if you have any more resources on the history of the "Shaku Hunter"? Or is it a newer term, coined by the clothing brand you have linked in the description. I'm captivated by the idea of the Shaku Hunter. I would love to know as much as possible.
hello Rolf, I like your channel very much, such good film work! we are going to Hokkaido in September (2nd time in Japan) and I hope to catch Iwana too. which flies would you recommend?

Pure calmness floats out of this movie. Japanese perfection. Love the music, framing, and narration.
Your work is wonderfully artistic, truthful, and detailed. Please don’t ever stop, there is nothing as unique as your style of storytelling. It is art depicting art.
Thank you David!
Beautiful. All of Rolf’s videos make me jealous but somehow satisfy my soul at the same time.
I get chills watching every single video… you’re such a inspiration to keep working harder to become a better film creator. Thank you so much.
A really nice video. Thanks - it's good to see some native fishes in the world thriving in the same waters they have lived in since time immemorial.
Again ... great story, perfect camera work!
A real pleasure to watch and to listen.
Thank you for creating something so beautiful, for 20 minutes, I completely forgot the world around me
What a beautiful piece. A perfect 20 minute escape.
Why on earth would anyone down thumb this absolutely beautiful bit of film?
I’m not even that interested in fishing myself but I found myself captivated by this.
Japan truly is the most travel-able place on earth.
You're an extremely talented story teller, thanks for being someone I can look up to and strive towards! Amazing job as always!
Wow, what a wonderful fishing story! So much respect everywhere in Japan for everything around them.
Seriously. Why would anybody dislike this beautifully crafted piece of audiovisual art. That said, if you are into fly fishing for trophy fish only, you’re missing the point. Simply one of the best film about fly fishing i've ever seen .... Great job, thanks from italy
Återigen säger jag att det är helt magiskt. Fotot, MUSIKEN, självklart den fantastiska historien. Tack för den!

Utterly beautiful film, fishing and location. Thank you!!
9:32 is such a beautiful shot. One of many in this film.
Tack Rolf. Dina berättelser är underbara. Du sa att du hade svårt att få avslut på dina projekt i en annan film och det förstår jag. Denna film känns som du ängat minst ett år på att producera.
This video is absolutely moving. Exquisite cinematics, construction, and of course fish.
I keep coming back to watch this - it is simply a brilliant fishing story!
Amazing price of work on this movie. Absolutely beautiful
A beautiful simple ballad at the end.

Thanks! It's on spotify "Shaku Waltz"
Nothing compares to upper rivers and the work it takes to catch anything. Those little trout are invisible
Thanks for sharing. This film ticked all my boxes.
Magnificent, so much to love about this Rolf.
Surely this is as good as it gets...
Hey, now. There are plenty of dry-fly purists in America, as well as lots of us Japanese wannabe Tenkara addicts. I would have thrown a Sakasa Kebari for the spirit of it. Fantastic cinematography, it was a treat to watch! Good luck next time!

I loved this film! As someone who has been hunting a shaku sized Appalachian brook trout in the Southeast United States, this hits home. It’s funny how inadequate you can feel as a fisherman when you meet people who are dialed in to their local fishery. The final song was awesome!
This is a beautiful video, Rolf.
Amazing film Rolf! Maybe go further north next time you are in Japan and try Hokkaido. Anyone ever tell you that you sound a bit like Jack Johnson?
great and thanks for this beautiful movie
True artistic brilliance - thanks for sharing 🙏
hello Rolf, I like your channel very much, such good film work! we are going to Hokkaido in September (2nd time in Japan) and I hope to catch Iwana too. which flies would you recommend?
Thank you! Dark klinkhammer, hook 16!
