- Currently in its first season on BBC One, the Caribbean-set crime drama Death in Paradise follows a detective inspector who is assigned to investigate a murder on the island of Saint-Marie. While it may sound like paradise for some, DI Richard Poole, played by Ben Miller, hates the sun, sea and sand, making the quintessential British cop feel like a fish out of water. His new partner is the feisty and instinctive Camille Bordey, played by Sara Martins.
Miller and Martins' on-screen chemistry plays out as they solve a new crime in each episode. Off-screen, the pair kept cracking each other up as our cameras rolled for this video interview. The stars sat down with World Screen Weekly to talk about how the show differs from a traditional detective drama and what it was like filming in paradise.
The series, launched at MIPCOM, is part of a growing slate of high-quality drama that BBC Worldwide has on its roster. Death in Paradise is produced by Red Planet Pictures and Atlantique Productions in association with BBC Worldwide and Kudos Film and Television for BBC One and France Télévisions with support from the region of Guadeloupe. It marks the first-ever drama collaboration between BBC and France Télévisions as well.

I love Death in Paradise , but series 1 and 2 with Ben and Sara was extra special. The relationship between Richard and Camille was amazing. So glad I've got all the dvds.
just a few episodes feel not brought in order. So the charackter developmet felt odd heere nd there.
Sorry but I think the best thing that happened was replacing Sara Martins with Josephine Joubert
I hated to see Richard go. it looked like him and Camille were just starting to have feelings for each other and boom, he is gone. Humphrey is okay, but he is no Richard that is for sure.
Very sure. And the worst of all that is that they haven´t killed the character of Goodman. It´s really a pity.

When he comes back before his last episode he tries hard to remind you of his bad qualities. He knew what was up.
The murder mystery storylines made me a fan of the show, but it was the wonderful chemistry between Richard & Camille that me me love it. IMO their partnership is still the best in Death in Paradise.

American fan here! We get this here in the USA! Absolutely love it! The ones with Richard were the best, even though he wasn't the most likable character! Such a fun, relaxing, and light hearted show!

I'm fair intoxicated by Sara Martins, and her ability to get emotion onto the screen is bewildering. She has acted a fair number of better known more experienced actors off the screen. In short, she's a total, complete, consummate Siren.

Definiteley , Camille and Richard their chemistry is really great. Watching how Camille looks at Richard you know there's something there. As the saying goes, "Action speaks louder than words". Just love this show. I watch it over and over.
I watched the Videos, mostly about their relations. All so sad. When DI Richard Poole was stabbed, and their constant fighting.But show's all about their feelings toward each other.
Im addicted to repeats here in Sydney Australia. Its the only show i look forward to watching every week. I only discovered the show a couple of years ago. So i have a lot of lost time to make up.
I love the show, but really miss Richard Poole, I wish he had stayed.

Richard, Camille, Fidele. My three favorite.
This is one of the greatest shows ever!! American crime dramas can't hold a candle to this and should definitely take a lesson from this show. It is intelligent crime drama and just imagine no cars blowing up or flipping over 10 times before crashing then racing off at 100 mph. The scenery is fantastic and the best scenery is definitely Sara. (forgive the metaphor Sara). I was convinced Selma was the most gorgeous woman on the planet until I saw Sara. I thought for sure there would be romance between her and DCI Poole and was disappointed not to see that happened and even more surprised when the love thing did not happen AGAIN with DCI Goodman. Even more crushed when Sara left the show. BRING HER BACK!!!!!!!!!!

I began watching because I loved the chemistry between all the characters. It was hard to watch DI Poole die so horribly. I mean, c'mon writers! Leave a door open! And his coworkers response to his death was not believable. I cried more than they did!
I miss seeing these two on the telly. Wish they would make another TV series maybe in London or in France. So Ben will not have an issue with being away from family. *sigh*
It would be perfect. He´s the best of DiP. The series without him is so normal. Nothing extraordinary, really. Boring.

He smiled so big and bright at the 3:40 mark and yup...swoon! Your wife is a lucky lady, Ben Miller. He was already a cutie-pie but that beard! Love it.
Yes I miss the show with these two in it. Kris Marshall's character was just so hapless. Ben played a more complex and interesting role. And the two fine actors (Ban and Sara) made us believe in their unlikely but growing attraction of opposites. And of course it helped that Sara is so attractive .
Look at these people how they are naturally. And compare it to what they played. I cannot grasp this talent. How can anyone do that? Slip into a completely different personality. It's a miracle to me.
We have watched from the very first to now and, even though the other duos are great, these were the very best. Especially “the look”.

Yes, Sara is a very good actress but also beautiful.Her action toward Richard is amazing. They're constant argument show how she feels about her and show a little jealousy when a beautiful woman is involved in their cases. That's LOVE.

I just loved the chemistry between Richard and Camille. They're the best couple of all the other cast(couples).DI Goodman and Camille wasn't for me. They don't have that same chemistry.
Wonderful actors; great show. Sara Martins is so beautiful, with a sweet french accident. Ben Miller does a terrific job, dressed so properly like a British business man. Love the show.

He´s the best and the only acceptable DI of the show. I can´t see the season 3 and the rest after that. It´s really impossible.

Would really liked to see their characters have more time to fall in love. Poole's character was so complex ...almost Asbergers like. He's so wrapped up in his own world. Love between them would have been spectacular.

I have been really sad when each inspector has left, not expecting to like the replacement, but I have loved each new inspector when I got used to them.

I’ve loved this show from the very first time it was shown in the U.S.
The way the killed off Richard, it felt like it was out of spite. They could have kept the character alive and Ben Miller would then be able to return if he could in future. Why couldn't the writers give him the send-off he deserved?
I didn't like it either - but I heard the writers decided they "had to" kill off Richard, as the audience would never have "warmed to" the new detective, Humphrey, if Richard had just left the island. As Ben did such a fantastic job in the first 2 series, they thought that the audience would just be hoping that Richard would come back, and want Humphrey to go, so the show would lose its popularity...
I wish Richard and Camille had been given their happy ending, but such is life... 💔

If you are talking about the background music where Camille's mother goes off for a dance, I think you'll find it is 'Liquidator' by the Harry J All Stars. Loved it when it first came out in the 1970's and still find I bop around to it now and then.

Josephine Jobert is my favorite if I have to pick one.
I love the series after watching these two along with Dwayne, Fidel, Catherine and the Commissioner. I am on season six now but I always go back and rewatch the first two series. The cast had good chemistry and the comedy was great. The show wasn't the same after these two left along with Fidel. The new actors are good too but something is missing. However, I still like the series very much.
If you like Ben Miller, check out his new series, Professor T. It's really good and there are moments you see Richard Pool. Ben Miller is really good in the series...it's rather dark but took me awhile to get into it.

Love the show. I didn’t think Ben could be replaced but it worked.
I think she fell for him, but he is already married and young family. Fantastic chemistry between them, both great actors, both very photogenic and very funny. Everything Ben Miller does is a success. Brilliant physicist and comic actor.

Best show ever it is so good BBC is the best they have the best shows and no adverts! Such a good show and I always try to work out the murder before it is discovered but usually fail hopelessly! I have such admiration for the plot writers and one last thing... I wish I was as gorgeous as her!

Yeah I’m surprised by in French island hiring London’s finest or better said misfits. Puts together with Sara whose charm and natural behavior has a real lift to comparison the later series. And this charismatic vibe is strengthened to her unfortunately female approach to our church the senior and this case Ben. Which I think she’s in love with also in real at the moment they played the role.
