This is arguably Kyle Landry's best rendition of Dearly Beloved. I've watched the other yearly installments but none can really compare to the emotional Rollercoaster ride this version gives.
I think there is something truly "earnest" with this rendition. It's as if he's truly trying to input musical phrasing into this piece with his own internal understanding of the music without the full masterfulness of phrasing as a pianist. I can say it's as adorable as a child giving you his/her artwork and you inherently understand what they put into it without it needing to be painted by da Vinci hahaha. Twelve years is a long time to follow someone, and I'm glad to have seen Landry grow into the pianist he is now, but these pieces will always be the "best" in my opinion =p After all, I am just as older as well. Hope you still have your account after 6 years since leaving this comment!
Hello from one year into the future. I could not agree more with you. After years following Kyle (from 2009 iirc), life went by. Back then, I was just 18 or so. Im father of 2 now, so I stopped listening Kyle, mostly by lack of time. But today, this is the song I went back to. Mostly for the emotions it brings back. It feels more "pure" in a way. Have a good night / year / life ❤ see you in a couple of years 😅
I do not understand how good a person can get.Like a normal person. You can make people cry. That's the dream. To make people cry with your music must feel really, really good. Good god, you are living the dream.
Why Kyle Landry is my hero instead of my idol: An idol is someone you glorify and adore because of their talent. A hero is someone who saves you when you need it most.
I learned to play that piece 3 years ago (took me around 3 months). From that till today, I almost played it everyday. I don't know why but it always moves me.
joe m. I think Lauren means "make homework while this song is playing in the background". Like homework for mathematics or geography or whatever. I'm also a beginner, and it saddens me to think I'll never be nearly as good as Kyle. I'm way too old, starting only now :( but we'll see how good I might become. Practice practice practice...
joe m. Don't be intimidated! 21 years old sounds like a long time away for an 18 year old, but they'll be there in 3 years no matter what they do. Don't focus on the time, focus on what you do with your time each day... that will take you to some pretty amazing places in your music and life :) There are cheap and apparently pretty universally recommended things do do at first, like master Hanon's 60 exercises. You can get the Hanon book on Amazon for like 5 bucks... I just paid 13 for the spiral-bound edition. I have realized that I can't ever really play like Kyle does in this video if I don't spend some time most days practicing finger exercises and learning the chords and how to improvise with them... and that starts with learning the scales so that my hands know them by heart, building speed and musicality with time. I've started learning a little of that, and music makes a lot more sense. I am starting to see that a lot of things are really formulaic, and that really helps with getting a feel for the music. I find that alternating that with songs that I just love to hear, like a lot of music from Xenogears and other games, has kept my playing fresh and taken me much further over the past year than I thought I could go, even though I was extremely busy with school work and didn't have more than about 90 minutes per week (not even playing every week) because of my schedule. I made the best of what I had. Now I have a few months to really spend more time before I start medical school in August, so I am hoping to solidify some more skills. Anyhow, you can do it. This song would take me a long time to be able to play, probably close to 2 years of solid practice because I'm a beginner too. The best I can do is the first 70% of bloody tears, which seemed impossible a year and a half ago but now isn't a big deal. I just finished mastering Faraway Promise (not very hard, a good beginner song actually) and am working on Zohar's arrangement of Shevat: The Wind is Calling. That, too, isn't actually all that bad once you get used to it, but at first it was incredibly intimidating. After those other two songs, though, I am realizing that I am much more capable of learning Shevat now than I was before. The good news is that as we get better, it won't take so long to learn new songs like this. Mix classical exercises with music you really love,so that you build important skills without getting too bored, and keep on playing!
joe m. I've been playing for 4.5 years and i learned passion a year ago which looked impossible to me before hand and took me 8 weeks... just commit to learning and you'll get there eventually and you will improve out of sight
After all these years. Still my favourite. You are the only one I accept changing the original because when you do it, it doesn't sound wrong. This piece always makes me cry in a positive way and helped me through a lot. Thank you for all this time you have been there for us.
I like these yearly Dearly Beloved pieces. It gives me pause for remembering the events that happened in that year. The year of my first job. The year a big change in my life occurred. The year of confusion and the year of finally starting on my own two feet after much struggle with the knowledge that the struggle is only just beginning. 2010 was a year of tumultuous change and rough hardships with a view towards a peaceful end.
tears... no... i need something more painful and deep to describe that passionate feeling... this... is music from the heart... this... Kingdom Hearts!
there's a lot of other people who did their own versions. Yours is by far the best I've seen so far. Its literally on my favorites and I listen to it like everyday.
this song is never too old, Every time you play this, it always sound different, I'm listening to a new song again. never get sick of it. Great work ! :D
Very modest in your compliment. I'm very interested to hear these other versions that are comparable as I haven't heard any. Let us know when you get a minute
I used to listen to this in college while I code. now 11 years later many many things have changed, but yesterday I needed to write some codes (very rare nowadays) and I was stuck at a bug. I searched and found this piece again and listening to it again actually helped me debug big time. something about the emotion in Kyle's style is great for coding and working in general, and it also brings memories from my college days. Thanks Kyle
This was just amazing! I hope you leave a crowd speechless someday with this rendition. You capture so much of the orchestral version of this song which I love, and everything you added would make Shimomura jealous I'm certain. Great video!
For all those beginners who want to learn this piece here are the seps 1. Learn how to read notes and (this is obvious) 2. mundopivotwebs from personal experience I think it's all about muscle memory and finger strength. For example if there's a really though fast bit, play it slow and really try to get the right finger order and keep repeating until you can go faster.
No sheet music.......this is played by heart. From the heart.....i most worthy and heartfelt rendition. Kyle you soooo know this composition. You play it with heart, eyes wide shut!!! BRAVO!!!!
Ah, beautiful on the grand piano and I love the simplicity and softness focused on the theme with increasingly difficult and louder variations. Emphasizes the contrast.
Back in the days... When I totally fell in love with piano music. At first, it was Passion and then, I watched this video. My life: changed forever. Thank to you Kyle!
I am glad we all come to revisit this one particularly. It bears the emotions of the year, and those of us of contemporary age at the time I should think.
This made my day. The amount of beauty in this song is more than I can fathom. Never stop making music and keep it with you always. I love how much passion you pour into every note and that is a great gift. Keep it up.
The way you played here.. on a grand piano I can feel the moments you really get sucked in. The mistakes are more noticeable but you follow through better and you feel your way through the music organically. I’ve been watching you for many years and it’s amazing to watch you come to life on one of these.
This is my favorite kyle landry kingdom hearts ....soooo exquisite. And precise....perfection.....beyond words. Thanks kyle....you remain my piano jedi master....thank you for every nuance and note played from the heart...
A song doesn't need lyrics or words. Each song has a story to tell and this story doesn't really need words to explain. "Some compositions cry out for a vocalist to make them complete. But that's not to say they necessarily need words"~
This is completely amazing. I'm not ashamed to admit that I teared up towards the end. You don't just play it, there's so much emotion behind it too... Bravo. Just brilliant.
It amazes me...that its such a pleasure to watch you- as much as it is to hear you...omg. you have a talent to match the best there have ever been!!! Listening to you makes me believe in a higher force..something bigger and more beautiful. Thank u.
Very nice Kyle. The ultimate antidote to a hectic house full of barking dogs, arguing kids, relatives chattering, football games on TV, bad Christmas music on the airwaves, and kitchen timers going off. Thanks for saving my sanity again! ;-)
Kyle you have been my inspiration for so many years please keep doing what you're doing, many of us really appreciate you and you have changed more lives than you might think! 🙏
Have seen the vast majority of Kyle's videos and I still, by far, like this one the best and keep coming back to listen. Kyle truly plays from the soul.
Forever my favorite version of this song! The difference between this and the original... This has feeling... This has something that only a truly talented person can give to music! This has everything in it that makes music, music instead of just sound. It's a beautiful thing when some one takes a simple song like this and shapes it into something more... something a part of their self. Beautiful piece!
you know i heard this a while ago (2010 or so) and was blown away, its now 2013 and i am still blown away. I have to say well done, you are very talented and should be proud of your ability.
Hi Kyle, All I can say is wow! You are amazing. This the first time I heard you and I can't wait to listen to your other fine postings. The piano is the most beautiful instrument, especially when it is played like you do. Keep up your gift, it will bring much joy to many people. God bless you, Frank
This has to be my favorite rendition of this song you have done, and although they're all beautiful, I'm not sure if it's the fact that the piano radiates your love of this song, but I find myself coming back to this video every time I need a pick-me-up song to listen to.
I watch this video and I am flooded with a nostalgic feeling of when I was a child. Of when I lost myslef and had to fight for my life. I was helpless and losing my friends and memories. I was fighting the dark within and discovering who I was. To some people kingdom hearts is a game. To me its what makes me never give up its what taught me as a kid to fight for the things you love and hold onto the light, even when its dark.
i am a Drummer who has been playing for 16 years. I also play guitar and have wrote and produced alot of my own Stuff. With that being said, I have been and considered my self a dedicated musician for almost 20 years. I watched this Vid and went out and bought a nice Roland Full size Digital Piano. Kyle you have inspired me Man!! Keep Shreddin!
O My God this is so epic the feels just comes in to the room when ever i play this song its like time just stops so one can enjoy the true feels of this song THANK YOU THANK YOU thank you.
“Thinking of you where ever you are- We pray for our sorrows to end and hope that our hearts will blend now I will step forward to realize this wish- And who knows starting a new journey may not be so hard or maybe it's already begun- There are many worlds but they share the same sky one sky one destiny-”
I have listened to every Kingdom Hearts song you have done and you inspire me every day to play the piano again. Thank you so much! I am currently learning to play your rendition of passion right now.
This is just so wonderful. ♥♥♥ Don't know if I've commented on it before, but every time I listen to it I am just blown away again. The bravura parts are so amazing and unrelenting. You are an incredible player.
he made this up basing it upon the original. plus he has made several versions over several years, each time improving upon the previous version. Because he made this up with heart and soul, that's where his sheet music lies, in his heart and soul, and because those two things are always with you, it's hard to forget.
When I listen to this, you takes me whichever way you are playing, up and down, soft and intense. Very powerful, my heart moves with the music as you play. Combined with the admiration of your playing and the talent that playing such a song requires, watching and listening to this is a beautiful experience. Thank you , merry christmas!

Indeed. It's hard to hide the sting in your eyes when you listen to that stop-moment while at work. I didn't even try to hide it from my colleagues.
I became a heartless for half a second
Incredible how so many years later, it’s still hits you like it’s the very first time you feel it’s embrace. Magical and I’m speechless
After all this years, I still think that this is the best arrangement ever played of Dearly Beloved

I think it really captures Kingdom Hearts, the feel is just there.

“Thinking of you where ever you are-
We pray for our sorrows to end
and hope that our hearts will blend
now I will step forward to realize this wish-
And who knows
starting a new journey may not be so hard
or maybe it's already begun-
There are many worlds
but they share the same sky
one sky one destiny-”
I have listened to every Kingdom Hearts song you have done and you inspire me every day to play the piano again. Thank you so much! I am currently learning to play your rendition of passion right now.
this is one of the most remarkable things i have ever heard in my entire life. i salute you.
This is my favorite of all the dearly beloved songs you have played
this is still my fav dearly beloved renditions, but his 2013 is growing and might be my fav
