Prepare yourself for over 3 decades of music by Dream Theater. I've been a fan since 1993 when Dream Theater got famous for their biggest radio hit called Pull Me Under. If you react to this song, make sure it's the long 8 minute studio version, not the chopped up MTV version.

its not a direct quote... its a word play, consisting of two references Ripper Owens + Wilson Philips being sang so close to each other, that you hear the two middle words combined togheter saying "Owen Wilson"... The whole part of references is built like that, and gives second meaning when combining the last and the first word of every new reference. Its a genius concept!

Definitely agree...been a DT fan for many years. Saw them live in the mid-90s up close at a small venue in RI. Seeing John Myung slay his 12-string bass up close was amazing. They create so many different layers of sound in each song that each is a journey on its own that you want to take time and again.
IMHO these guys are the best prog metal/rock (everything).. their virtuosity as instumentalists is beyond words.. I've seen them 7 times, met them backstage; simply amazing, beautiful and talented. Pope, you put tears in my eyes watching your reaction.. Kudos!!

Man, yeah, my first Dream Theater song was "On the Backs of Angels" through the in-game radio on Sleeping Dogs--I was absolutely blown away, especially for a video game. After that, I listened to Metropolis Part 1 and boy howdy that was an experience. From then, I've been obsessed. Dream Theater is a genuine gem amongst so many pieces of sand.
The journey Octavarium took you on is not the last one you'll experience with them. I promise you. Good luck, stay safe, and enjoy this art to your heart's content.

I was literally watching dream theater reactions the pther day wondering when someone would react to this song, but I had forgotten the name, i just remembered that it was 24 mins long, and there werent any lyrics until 5 mins in lmao
Im so glad you enjoyed it, and i kind of envy you to discover this amazing band. My first time listening to DT was when i studied music and we were supposed to bring music that we liked to the class and play some and explain why we liked it. A classmate of mine then played "Under a glassmoon" from the Album "Images and Words". I was totally blown away. DT also have alot more songs like this, long epic adventures. For example "A Change of Seasons" and "The Count of Tuscany". If hope to follow your journey through the amazing landscape of DT songs on the channel.

Count of Tuscany is a masterpiece but the lyrics are like...questionnable lol at best. It's just Petrucci getting lost in vineyard beeing scared but it's just two nice dudes saying "hey chill bro we're cool". That's it XD it's a bit over the top compared to the subject but yes instrumentaly it's super sick

Welcome to the Majesty that is Dream Theater my friend. They are masters of what they do. Octavarium was done live in 2006 in New York City and sounds just as good live. If you want more of their epic stuff check out Illumination Theory live at the Boston Opera House. It was part of their Breaking The Fourth Wall tour and it was awesome to watch.
I Did see Dream Theater and Yes at Red Rocks a few years back. I`m picturing Pope at that concert.

Nice ! My first Dream Theater experience was Change Of Seasons, 20+ minutes long and still one of the best things I've ever heard.

You need to react to something live. They are simply amazing. I’m 65 years old and I’ve seen and listened to some of the greatest prog groups, Yes, ELP, Genesis, but these guys top the all. Amazing musicians!
I took my stepdaughter to her first concert, Dream Theater, in San Francisco in 2019. She still wears the shirt from of it on the regular. 😊

But… if you’re daring enough, and willing to put in a video up to two hours, maybe you could react to Metropolis pt I next, then the entirety of Metropolis pt 2: Scenes from a Memory. Definitely do that if and when you like. It’s a lot to absorb in one sitting so if you choose to do so, be prepared for a hell of a story.

It's basically a rock opera (or concept album whatever you want to call it) that tells such a damn good story. It's one of few albums I could call "Perfect from first to last track."
