    Ebert was great. He is a better writer than he gets credit for--to this day no one else's reviews are as fun to read. He mastered the niche. People wrongly think he was stuck up; he was just smart, believed in what he said, and held people to high standards. He was also a real humanitarian, always very optimistic and lighthearted. The world needs as many smart people with interesting things to say as it can possibly get.

      him and siskel just hated gore and blood to the point of ignoring many classics, but that's them they came from an earlier age.

      Wow, this comment indicates you'd be stoked to hear the G4 network is relaunching OR you fell down a UA-cam rabbit hole you now regret. Either way, we can work with this.

    Who knew Rodger was such a Mac fanboy. It's funny cuz the way I feel about the iPhone flock is how he felt about PC users back then. Ironically he claimed macs were more fun, but the reason most of us were using PCS was cuz of games

      The stuff was so much in its infancy in the 90s and even the 00s I could not have imagined all the things to come. In the early 2000s we just went on to the Apple trailers site and watched shitty postage stamp sized quicktime trailers... Also don't forget he died in 2013, he did see streaming become a reality.

      @@gocsa Streaming was very much alive in 2013 already. Also Ebert was actually quite advanced compared to his contemporary critics and TV personalities in adopting the internet, technology in general, and new paradigms. He's not a very technical guy though, and the thing I strongly object to here is his fanboy fervor over Apple products. He was heavily shilled the concept that "Apple stuff is just better" during the early 2000s' Apple heavy marketing campaign much like a lot of others, and because of his general disdain for learning "computer stuff". He is very much among the emerging "90%" and not the 10%. I also find his statement about how most people don't care about aesthetics to be completely off, because aesthetics is a matter of taste, and no one is "correct" factually about it. I for example cannot stand the Mac aesthetics all the way down to the hard to repair/upgrade fact, and much prefer a self-assembled PC in every application of my daily life. What he has done here is treating ignorance as bliss, very much like he accuses the mainstream moviegoers of.

    • @hmicky-mickey
      @hmicky-mickey 2 роки тому +1

      @@zxbc1 Ebert championed a well-made movie for all of us. Siskel did this too. I agree with every single, pithy point that Ebert said. And to add, the mac is much better than the PC. You are so caught up with your own fanboy loyalty towards the PC that you can't see the tree for the forest. And finally, yes, in terms of taste, people have their own preferences...however, overall beauty, such as a sunset, or a child's laugh, is NOT up to debate; it is hardwired into us from nature. However, some people, unfortunately, cannot recognize true beauty, whether it is aesthetically created or not. This includes movies and art, which is why so many HORRIBLE MOVIES and television shows are not only made but actually popular. The good news for you is that "taste" can be developed, educated, and matured.

      Kindly G4 Fan,
      Commenters on G4 videos break down into two basic groups: Those that know G4 is coming back in 2021 and those that want it to. And then there are a bunch of people who really hate G4 and feel the need to tell people about it. So, maybe there are three groups.... I think. My math is getting fuzzy. Anyway, G4 is coming back!
