I've done that once before although it was at very slow speed and I immediately clutched it and corrected it. But yeah leaves you wondering wtf was I thinking? No shame man just be glad you didn't get hurt and learn from your mistake.

Keep your feet more high up on the pegs. Basically the part of your foot right below your toes. You feet shouldnt hover over the brake or shifter unless you need to use them.
