This has been one of the best video reviews on UA-cam for the Martin DRS1. Not just a taste of the instrument's sound, but also discussion about: construction & materials, historical info, target market, price positioning, tonal properties, and, the reviewer's overall opinion of the value offered by this product. Well done!
I bought one. The tone is warm, with hints Verbena, aloe vera, melisse, lemon-balm, and finally the usual apple; the palate as always is shady and cool, though more overtly mineral than usual, but the finish crescendos into a salty tide that clings and doesn’t quit.
Sorry, but your tonal description is just out there, without basis and value to those not in that other dimension that you seem to be from! ; ) For those of you that it has value; more power to ya!
This kind of description helps no one, unless they are smoking the same thing you are! Obviously you like it, which is good, because it is a wonderful guitar. But please, stay in this universe when describing the tone. That helps very few of us to come to a reasonable conclusion.
got this guitar 2 yrs ago , it has a solid hard wood neck, earlier version i think has stratabond, action is little bit higher . I just lowered the saddle and adjust the neck to remove buzzing. sounds great & awesome to play now. in addition..it doesn't get scratches and dings easily not like my DCPA4 which i sold already.
Your reviews and playing are great, you really make the guitars sing! This beautiful Martin is no exception. I had one 12 fret mahogany Martin a few years ago and this one reminds me of that. Thank you, Mr Phillips!
Can you compare DRS1 and Martin D15M without considering the price? I feel the D15M makes beautiful sounds while DRS1 is more fun to play because it’s bouncier and feels more rhythmic.
Simple question: If I remove the under-saddle pickup, and all the attendant electronic junk, from one of these models, will I find a noticeable improvement in the acoustic sound of the instrument? Has anybody tried it?
Great review and video! Others should use this as the best example of how to review an instrument. And being a talented musician certainly doesn't hurt in demonstrating the sound. Very nice!
Three months ago I bought the same guitar. It was all sounding good. But after I changed the (Martin)strings, the action has gone too low that the strings are touching the fret board and i can’t play anymore cos of the buzz. Should I try adjusting the truss road? There is no way I can play around with the saddle or the nut. Truss road adjustment seems to be the only option. And there are no expert to fix the guitar in my hometown. I have to do it myself. Please give some suggestion. It would mean a lot.
In the winter the top with shrink up unless you're humidifying to 45-50%. Also check your string weight, if you replaced the strings with a lighter gauge, the action will get lower. If you prefer that lighter string weight, google how to adjust the truss rod. easy peasy.
The guitar is without flaws, just your description of it joynthis! Maury's, thank for your level headed review and video! But the nut width is 1-3/4", not the smaller dimension you provided.
What string gauge are you using on this video? I think the tone is a little bit brighter and clear than mine. My martin DRS1 has a very prominent mid rangy tones.
is this the Martin Road Series DRS1 Dreadnought or Martin DRS1 Dreadnought I'm a little confused because I'm seeing two different versions in Amazon at the same price. Thank you.
The Martin DRS 1 is part of the Martin Road Series (DRS = Dreadnought Road Series). Martin only makes one model designated the DRS 1, so you are seeing the same instrument with slightly different wording. I have one of these, and it is wonderful.
awosome review! I'm thinkin about buying one, but somebody recomends me the Sigma Somr-28h All Solid, or probe Tylors in the same prices...but I like the DRS1, it looks like pretty and well finished, and sounds clearly, but Im not sure if is the mest option in that range of price.... What do you think about?
I asked Martin's tech rep via email, if the DRS1 was the same as the D10E, except the appointmernts? He answered YES!!! But all the D series from Mexico from DRS1 to D15's are made in Mexico. I'm convinced with Martins QC at the Navajoa, Sonora facility it checks all the boxes. And why I bought one. I had owned a DX1AE with HPL but wanted to upgrade to the all solid wood DRS1. I'm replacing the Tusq saddle (polymer plastic) with a bone saddle and Ebony bridge pins.
@@ohsongcabrera859 Lay down some sand paper and shave down the saddle from the bottom, this will lower the action. Just don't shave too much or you'll end up with buzz and will have to either make a shim or buy a new saddle.
Just bought 1 last week. I love it! Been playing a Fender Hell Cat for 8 years. This was an upgrade for sure. I had only own fender acoustics until now. No regrets. I paid 700$ brand new from sweet water. I say buy it new.
I looked all over hell n half of Ga or this guy. Found one at Guitar Center in Ft Worth Tx. USED! Got this guitar cheep. $324.00 Put new D'Addario strings on it. String action was 2mm above the fretboard at the 12th fret (or 80,000ths if you prefer) I really desired the DRS2 but none available anywhwere. I've played the 1968 Martin D35 of our banjo player for 45 years (he cant play guitar and banjo at the same ti,e) I got tiered of playing another guys guitar.

i had no idea the tone and volume are inside haha amazing value
I like the sound of Martin Road series 1. I am a dreadnought fan also. Very nice guitar.
thanks!

Which one is better? 12 fret mahogany Martin or DRS1?
Got one 5 days ago, love it!
Excellent review!
Spoon, which one is better DRS1 or Martin D JR sapele? Can you compare the two?

this guitar is better than a Guild D150 or a Taylor 210 ?
The low E sounded like it buzzed.

Directed at joynthis, not Maury's. Maury's seems to be based in common sense terms, and thankfully they are the ones that are selling this guitar!
What would be the reason that DRS1 produces bouncing sounds? Is it caused by the good middle tone sounds or something else?
this revieuw made me deside to buy it, love the sound , also love the last song you played, dont know what song it is .thx

What sounds better, the drs1 or the drs2?
That's very subjective, it depends on what you are going for.
Does anyone experience high action on the DRS1 ?? Its hard to play from like around the 7th fret
Ngoc nguyen xuan Yes and it’s annoying but other than that it’s a great sounding guitar. I love the warm tone of this guitar.

I don't think this guitar has a solid wood neck like you stated. can you confirm?
David Halliday its stratabond neck good as solid..
Mine does.
@@musicismyreligion5213 MINE IS STRATABOND. LATER VERSIONS ARE SOLID WOOD.
Is this too much guitar for a newbie? I have an opportunity to get a used one for $700.
