- Опубліковано 10 чер 2013
- hello, and welcome to the final video in this series of my favorite vintage video game music from 3 of my most favorite computers, the Atari 8-Bit , Atari ST and the Commodore Amiga, this collection of Atari 8-bit music , I think for the time contains some really great music, but I found rarely played beyond 40-50 seconds of music looped, example Boulder Dash, but as the Atari 8-bit went on, more and more musician started to create some amazing music from the famous Pokey :), I had some wacky encoding issues with this video, sound wise and upper fields in the video rendering because the video are so long, they take forever to render, looks like I needs a new GPU :(
this collection this time around has in here
Alternate reality (The City), Axilox, Axis_Slotmachine, Blinkys Scary School, Bluemax 2001, BMX Simulator, Boulder Dash, Bruce Lee, Chimera, Conan, Cosmic Tunnels, Dimension X, Elektra Glide, Eureka, Extirpator, Feud, Frogger 1 & 2, Ghost Busters, Goonies, Grand prix Simulator, International Karate, Jet Set Willy, Jocky Wilson Darts Challenge, M.U.L.E., Masters of the Lamp.
Alternate Reality - Gary Gilberson. Fantastic game and music. Philip and Gary created a believable and engrossing world on an 8 bit system back in the early days of home computing. Still legendary even today :-)
Btw... did anyone ever see Atari's "Music Studio"?
It came with amazing demos.
Pachelbel's Canon in D... and a few more.
OMG, at 18:15, it's Chimera. Amazing soundtrack. Invention number 8 by Bach, a beautiful ditty. This game led to me hunting around B'ham music shops with my mother looking for the manuscript, and I learned to play this music on the piano.
Draconus was always my favorite on the 800!
music of my childhood, this is HEAVEN
International Karate at 42:15!! Epic.
OMG FEUD!!!!!!!!
Agreed, Johnny. BMX Simulator alone was worth a listen. Dave Whittaker, if member isn't frazzled.
Alternate Reality had AMAZING music!
I also loved Ultima 3's music.
Also Gemstone Warrior (with one of Bach's D minor preludes)...
This vid could do with some timestamps.
4:43 Axilox
51:40 Dart Challenge
Jet set willy ;)
It's great!, thankyou for making this video.
cheers pal..can't make a video like this without adding the famous Atari 8-bit :)
Thanks. I play these cuts in the background whilst runnin' Dosbox games that have no music. This is a quality video, nice and long too with good music choices.
cheers, it's always hard to decide what's best, as there is some much of it, i could make 10 more videos on it lol
+DDGreyfox I have been trying to connect a piece of music I once heard to an Atari 8-bit game for years, I now know the associated game is "Cosmic Tunnels". Thank you very, very much.... I can die happy now. 8)
Nice compilation. I love it.
First tune : Alternate Reality...then you know it's going to be good...
Amazing music. Czech republic. atari 800 xe my life
Awesome stuff!! Thanks!
Draconus definitely the best there... You are missing a couple of classics - Warhawk...Ballblazer...
spacedmonkeys1972 Yeah, I know, Warhawk was a killer tune, Ballblazer was sorta very shorted and repeated, so I chose not to include it.

I've only recently discovered (as in actually played) Dig Dug, which I somehow didn't back in the day. The music and sounds generally are hilarious and add so much! Another that really made me laugh upon discovery recently is Pressure Cooker on the VCS, the melody is brilliant! ua-cam.com/video/4sUt6iNRaiQ/v-deo.html&t=4
Storm, sprong
How do you get Electra glide music without game noises? Some recreation, or unpack?
prachtig
:)
ótimas trilhas de games !
0:29 when the music starts
Are cosmic tunnels and MULE supposed to sound out of tune?
yo mama
"The Extirpator!" is Rob Hubbard's Sanxion from the C64. I never heard it on Atari before. The C64 sounds much better, not a great conversion at all, I do hope it wasn't Rob who did it. His version of Warhawk is great on the Atari. There were few who could do the Pokey justice rather than a lazy job. Many early game soundtracks weren't up to much. I always recall M.U.L.E, Archon and Boulderdash (to name a few) with affection.
I prefer the Atari version of sanxion. Commodore's Version had to many artifacts of noise and it was a bit screamy.
I guess growing up with specific tunes affects our preferences.
Btw the screamy nature C64 delivered a far greater version of warhawk soundtrack.

The sound chip of the Atari 8-bit computers reminded me of the sounds generated by the 2600. They were good, but not great.
