Brook's backstory is the most devastating to me, not just because of Laboon, nor all the deaths in it, but because Brook was alone, on a broken ship filled with his crewmates' corpses, for 50 years. All alone for 50 years. And we see the permanent toll that takes on him.
i think it was technically 30 years. they met laboon 50 years ago when brook was 38, the captain left the crew after a couple timeskips including a ten year one.
i believe officially brook was 58 when he died, and it took a couple years of searching the fog in the florian triangle to find his body. thats why it was just a skeleton. and then he spent the rest of the years alone.
and he's 88 when luffy meets him, which is the number of keys on a piano.
@@DarthZ01 You're right he's 88 when we meet him, but the "ten year one" was ten years after they left the cape, and he was already dead and a skeleton then. During the flashback, they skip around a lot and only show two "years" timeline placements for it. A few years after leaving the cape, when yorkie got sick, and ten years after leaving the cape, when the whole crew was already dead and Brook was already a skeleton and found his body... and we aren't told how long he's been alone on that ship for up to that point.
So, he wasn't alone for 50 years, but it was more than 30 years... it was at least 40, but probably more, and it is just easier to say 50 since that is the entire timeline of his backstory.

genuinely the saddest backstory to me in One Piece. i dont think people understand how crazy being alone for like 50 years is..... especially surrounded by the decaying corpses of your family after you watched them drop dead 1 by 1
The fact Brooke was the last one to die meant none of his crew even knew if the devil fruit worked or not. They fully trusted that Brooke would come back and died happily knowing that.

It is the saddest one so far but there's still a backstory that makes me cry even until now just by remembering it.

That's why I love it. When I started it I never thought that I would cry watching this. I never imagined myself realizing that it can make you cry even in the happy moments because you know how dark the past is and still enjoy the moment they live in. ❤

It's beautiful how oda wrote the song and the anime just made it come back to life.

I always dread the backstoriesbecause they take over 2 episodes but i always force myself to watch them, then by the end im normally bawling because it was so good 😂😭😭
Nick you can notice how when the song is played a little fast, It sounds like a happy and cheerful song but when you play slowed version, it becomes a depressing and sad song.
The worst part of the last song that a lot of people don't realize is that brook never finishes the song in the recording. My boi dies before the song ends during the accompaniment of the song (the part everyone plays at once) after listening to all of his crew die one by one 😭😭😭😭

One of the first crew mates Luffy mentioned wanting was a musician. 😭 I love how Brooke's story is tied into the plot despite being a late comer to the Straw Hat Crew.
The crew is so well balanced. Had someone ask me who my favorite was and why, and I honestly can't make a decision.

19:00 - Brook wouldnt have endured if not for Laboon, he has a message to deliver to the last friend he has left. going back to Laboon was out of the question though, with his shadow stolen and unable to sail the ship on his own. not to mention, in The Grand Line, you cant just turn back, you have to sail to the other side of the world, and re-enter from the mountain they came from, that's why they had Laboon wait there.

When it comes to story one piece always stay on top
Imagine this show having hundreds of reason to make anyone cry, this one right here is a crying investment. We all know that when that day comes. It's going to be a heartful reunion and we're not ready. That's what other anime lovers dont understand, the thing that sets this anime apart from the others is Oda's ability to leave crumbs of memory to your heart, it makes you feel like you're part of the crew, and when things happen, you don't know why or how but it leaves you devastated. No other anime is capable of this and im putting my life on the line to bet on that.
I was waiting for you to get to this part, and I'm glad you did. I've been rewatching One Piece with my now 12 year old son for the past year for him to catch with me and now we're at Wano. (I never finished Wano, I started over OP for my son's sake) Yes we're watching it in English dub, I don't wanna hear it from you people.
My son knew of the song Bink's Brew, to the point he could sing along with the lyrics (yes, the English lyrics, again, I don't wanna hear it) but he didn't know the context behind the song. When we got to this point in OP, he couldn't sing it, he was too busy crying and hugging me while the song played. You honestly handled it way better than a lot of us did Nick. Props to you.
That's so adorable, when I have children in the future I definitely want to do this with them, but I don't know if i could make it through the sad parts without bawling 😂

The Rumbars were even more graphic in the manga, and we only see their ending. What happened before for doors to be torn off hinges and Madaisuki be stabbed using his weapons through his own skull. How many men died before the poison started?
What grief does Brook hold for believing he did it due to not being ready as a Capt? He failed his partner, who, died of FUCKING pirate AIDS.

Thanks to Brook and his asshole of a genius creator Oda, I can't listen to this song without tearing up or outright crying.
I know everyone talks about the saddest story in one piece but to me what brook had to endure was the saddest. He lost his crew and remained in solitude for 50 years for a promise. all he had to remain alive for all those years alone was the promise he made to Laboon and his crewmates.
