- Housing Secretary Angela Rayner said there are children in the UK who would feel “they’d won the lottery” to be living in a council house.
Reform UK MP Lee Anderson asked if priority for housing would be given to “British families”, adding that Ms Rayner is “a little bit of an expert when it comes to council housing”.

@@rockerjim8045 I interpreted Rayner's response of 'local people' as potentially meaning people that the government have put up in a 'local' hotel for a year whilst they have an asylum claim ongoing. I think she'd class those as 'local people', I however would not. Don't think I put my point across very well, apologies.
Only a couple of days ago I saw a video of council offices converted to luxury spec flats. The councillor was proudly listing where all the new tenants had come from. Not one of them was from the UK

As a retired construction guy, there is no chance we could build £1.5 million houses in the next 5 years. Land purchase, infra structure, schools, tradesmen, etc etc, come on Angela you must start telling the truth.

will the large estate owners have land confiscated oh no, the cost of these houses will fall on the local councils and be passed on to locals, the rise in public service salaries will also mean a rise in council tax another cost to pensioners
None of the housing targets labour set will be met just like the conservative targets. You can streamline planning all you like, you can set whatever ridiculous targets you like but when you have a lack of bricklayers and other trades people there is only a certain number of houses than can be built. The capacity doesn't exist within the house building industry to build the number of new houses they want.
Just like the Conservatives wanted 300,000 per year but last year they got 190,00, Labour now want 400,000 per year but will get 190,000.
What is so hard to understand about the concept that if they want more houses building then they need to increase capacity within the house building industry to stand a chance of meeting those targets. Demanding them doesn't build them.
Councils keep lots of houses empty specifically for migrants then tell locals there isn't any
Of course Lee was referring to Angela taking advantage of the council housing benefit. And housing locals is cos she’s moving hundreds of immigrants locally, which she made perfectly clear.
Up north there are streets and streets of deserted houses. So why hasn't SERCO bought them up and redevolped them.
Builders won't build what they can't sell or the profit is so minimal that it's not worth the risk. Alot of developments are on a go slow or complete to order.

The only way to meet those targets would be to have a huge prefab industry which would bypass the bottleneck of there being only a limited number of traditional housebuilders available.
Prefabs don't _have_ to be rubbish with modern technology and materials but will probably end up being so due to many useless people taking a bite out of the funding before it gets to the material stage - so the end results will be rushed and inferior.
These will end up looking pretty similar and people don't like the idea of this, but they should look at modern housing estates to realise that that has been happening anyway.
Rayner said thousands of migrants are going to be dispersed all over the country so they will be in every locality when houses are built
