  • Barnes and Noble and Nook started selling e-readers and e-books around the same time in 2009/2010. Over the years the two companies have constantly refined their E INK offerings, providing users with better hardware and software. The latest generation readers are here, the B&N Nook Glowlight 4e and the 11th Generation Kindle, which are considered entry level e-readers. What are the major differences between the two?

I really want to get onboard the Nook train (love B&N, and it has the perk of not giving Amazon money), but Libby integration is so easy with the Kindle. Still have no idea if Nook supports library e-books, which is how I do most of my reading these days.

i’m pretty sure the nook can do libby books through side loading it from your computer

It can but you need a computer to transfer the files

Kobo is the best for Libby/Overdrive integration. I use my Libra H2O for JUST library books.

The Kindle is clearly the better value and the one I would recommend to someone buying their first reader. But for me, I like the look of the Nook hardware. I like how the Nook's UI looks too, though the Kindle has better firmware.

physically Nook is better , it has the page turners, it moves rapidly (I tested it in store) & a home button... however since there is no option to send to nook, limited sideloading and requirement of a computer to put your stuff on there , I'm stuck with kindle.. my dream kindle would be one with buttons but the size of a the kindle or at least paperwhite

The best kindle ever made was the Kindle Voyage it had haptic feedback page turn buttons it is and remains the perfect kindle !
The oasis and papewhite models just don’t do it justice they are ill made and lack features that each other model should have !
Idk why they can’t just have one model with ALL the features ! The Kindle Voyage had everything ! I can only imagine if they kept that model going.
The oasis has a poor design it’s terrible.
Nook is very cute never owned one but Barnes n Noble should find a way to design something that is small yet screen is larger in that same small form factor AND include haptic feedback buttons ! It would literally blow kindle out of the water. Especially if they include all the “modern” things like usbc Bluetooth for audio books, wireless charging (if need be it would make it more expensive tbh) but if they did that kindle would have no comp.

My kindle oasis has physical page turning buttons. That was pretty much the main reason I bought that one.

Page Flip on the Kindle is a good feature you did not highlight in this video. That pop up box that shows the page preview has page turn icons and holding down on those does allow for a rapid page turn. And chapter skip is possible with the icons on the bottom UI. It's not convenient in the way the Nook here is, but I think it's worth mentioning. Page Flip has been a useful feature to me since it was introduced with the Paperwhite 2 in 2013 and further refined in 2016 with the 9 page grid preview.

I wish kindle paperwhite had page turning buttons and I wish Amazon wouldn’t limit how many books you Gould keep on ur kindle at a time on kindle unlimited.

Does B&N work in Canada? I am considering it just because the membership is 25$ per year, whereas Kindle Unlimited is 10$ and i am already an Amazon Prime member which also costs 10$

When we talk about ereaders, we talk about kindle. Ereader market would be empty without kindle

Pretty much, yeah. They didn't create e-readers, but they made them what they are today.
