If only the basic had the warm light option. It has the perfect size
Is the warm light option for it. I like everything about the basic. The only thing keeping me from getting it is the warm light option.
@@joeljimenez4159 No warm light option on the basic.
@@joeljimenez4159 the dark mood is instead and better
Hm I just returned the basic. I found it to be too small. Might try the Paperwhite. Not sure. I actually really prefer paper books...just hate storing them all and traveling with a large book.
I was hung up on the same thing. After settling on the basic, I realized that I use Dark Mode when I read at night which makes it much easier to live without the warmth control. Dark mode is VERY easy on the eyes. So much so that I don't think I would even use the warmth option. Just something to consider. Paperwhite also has some minor downsides to consider - weight, size, price, sunken text, and glare.
PS. This is an outstanding review of the basic and pw, thank you.
I'm seeing a lot of people who dislike the larger screen size of the Paperwhite, but I find it to be the perfect size since I don't read one-handed. It's about the size of an average book, and I find that comforting and familiar.
I still believe Kindle is the best option for people who don't want to bother with too many specs, where your only worry is storage size, screen size, if it'll survive your reading tendencies (waterproof for poolside readers, etc) so a simple comparison of Kindle devices is always good for people who are trying to figure out what they gain or loose choosing one device or the other
It would be nice to see comparisons to older PaperWhites and basics. I was interested in the new warm light and Dark Mode, but disappointed the PW5 got so large. My hands haven’t gotten any bigger! The new basic might finally be my PW3 upgrade, although nothing seems set to replace my little Sony 350 for on the go.
That’s my exact same thought! I bought PW5 to switch from my PW3; cool, but too heavy big for my itty bitty hands. Now I’m gonna sell PW5 and buy 2022 basic, since it looks like a perfect model for me. Screen fells more like paper not phone, and the size… perfect!
Good review! It's def helping me choose what eBook to consider on my specific needs.
What's not to like about the Kindle Basic 2022 - 300 ppi, USB C, front lights, lightweight etc. I think the Kindle Basic 2022 is worth every penny!
Thanks for your videos! Always helpful 🙂
Just bought the basic 2022 edition, it was a tough choice. I really wanted the waterproofing, but the size of the basic edition is what sealed the deal for me. It is almost the same size as my iphone 11 pro max, so I’m looking forward to the ease of portability vs the paperwhite edition.
I think I may also end up preferring dark mode over the warm glow mode anyways, my iphone has a feature that warms the colors at night, but even that isn’t always enough to keep the brightness down at night, so I’m always in dark mode anyways.
What I love about you guys is that your reviews are so impartial. You sell competing products but always give Amazon Kindle a proper review.
Of course, we are distributors of 39 manufacturers, the sole distributor of Sony and fujitsu, we even make our own devices by collaborating with other companies.
There's no possible way we can be biased LOL
I just got my very first kindle a few months ago, which is a kindle basic 10th generation. Hopefully I could "upgrade" mine hahaha but for now, I think it is enough since I'm just starting to read ebooks. Btw the newest kindle, especially the middle ground 16gb is really a great idea!
I bought a signature edition purely for no adds and I'm an artist so I like books with OG illustrations lol other features a bonus (will probably never use wireless charging) its also going to be my digital bookshelf as to try to keep clutter in my house down and money in my pocket
I just got the basic kindle 2019 I don’t regret it it’s so small and light I love it. I’m sure the 2022 is great too
The size difference is a big deal for people who read a lot of manga, and the color temperature is awesome to read at night.
There's a large group of people who would benefit from the Paperwhite, but the the Basic is amazing too specially if it's your first e-reader.
Is paper white that much better to read manga?
@@hectorgarcia5814 Eeh it's fine. But prefer to read manga on Ipad mini 6
@@hectorgarcia5814 It sure is. The bigger screen the better for reading mangas.
I upgraded to the new Paperwhite just the other day from an old Kindle Touch from 2011. The difference is amazing and I'm glad I did it. I just got the base Paperwhite though...I doubt I need 32gb and the auto warmth.
The new color is looking great!
I am wishing for a memory expansion option, but that will not happen, I know!
I love the larger screen of my Kindle Paperwhite (6.8") and having the option for Dark Mode. I probably woudln't have bought the Paperwhite initially (I'm cheap) but I've used the Kindle Trade-In program a couple times. When I traded up to the Paperwhite, I think it was like 20% off + $25 trade in value. I then timed my trade-in near a large sale ($119). I got my Kindle Paperwhite Kids for $75. The $75 was an amazing deal when you realize it came with a case, no ads, 1-year of Amazon Kids+, and a 2-year warranty.
100% agree with you. The Kindle Paperwhite is totally worth it for the screen size alone. Everything else is just icing on the cake.
In Russia my kindle paperwhite cost me 220$ with advertising)) in the official store) but they turn off ads for free, because we cannot use the amazon library)
I like the smaller form factor, but the lack of warm light is a dealbreaker for me.
Kobo Clara HD Maybe?
Barring the Amazon environment, you get the whole new Paperwhite thing, in a basic Kindle size.
Same..I like warm light for night reading but I prefer 6"..problem now :-D
you might not use it much after you try dark mode (which the basic has). Especially with consideration to the pw downsides - weight, size, price, sunken text, and glare.
@@mister215 thank you...was confused...
The Kindle doesn't look crisper than the Paperwhite because it's smaller and the pixels are, as you say, more squished together. The pixel density (300 ppi) is the same between both Kindles, which means that the 6 inch Kindle has less pixels overall than the Paperwhite. The reason the 6 inch Kindle looks better is because it there are no extra layers on top of the screen like with the Paperwhite!
this!
Great insight. Thanks for the review
Thanks for the contest!
PPI means pixel per inch. It’s the density measurement. They look exactly the same as far as pixel density because they both have 300ppi.
Ugh that blue color is so beautiful 😍
Now the versions have a bigger difference.
I have the Paperwhite 2019, bought on a sale for about the same price as the normal here on Brazil, but I feel tempted to acquire a new Paperwhite.
Hello from Germany ❤❤❤
Can we expect an update for the Oasis this or next month? You mentioned it in a video, but no news lately…
I'd prefer a smaller screen as I take mine everywhere, but the warm light is non negotiable for me as a night time reader. Still happy with my 2021 paperwhite (not signature) edition.
do you find the yellow backlight to be easier on the eyes than the dark mode?
Still prefer the sunken screen and don't want the flush glass top to the screen.
Kindle basic & Kobo Libra 2 .... That's how I roll....read.
I never saw the attraction to a flush screen. I think the sunken screen is easier to hold
I agree. I have a paperwhite 2014 and a Kobo libra H20. Both have the sunken screen and I am really disappointed that the new paperwhites do not have them so therefore I may just upgrade to the basic kindle from the old 2014 PW, but only if it stops working. I use Book Bub to get books. Some are available on Kobo and some only via Amazon. If they are available on both, I typically choose my Kobo, it's just a nicer reading experience. You can turn the reader sideways and it will automatically rotate to landscape mode.
I really love your comparison because it helps me to find my ultimate device. I opted for PPW5 and it works the best.
I prefer the 6” form factor so if I had to choose I’d get the basic since it also has glow light
Features in paperwhite are great. But for so many years of use, I’m prefer 6 Inches size Kindle. New basic model looks great.
Portability and weight can be an important concern for some. It's a trade off. I find it too simplistic to say larger is better. Then why don't we have a 10" Kindle Paperwhite then? Because it would be too heavy to read holding in the hand for a long time. I would also hesitate to take it with me or throw it in a back pack.
I had an earlier 6" paperwhite and recently switched to the new 2022 Basic kindle. It is noticeably lighter and somewhat faster. I'd say it's still a great size (for reading books at least).
Glad to see Amazon slowly stepping up the specs on their products.
I’m still deciding between this two, the price tag is compelling but the larger screen is so tempting… hopefully the paperwhite is going on sale on Black Friday so I don’t have to compromise
Paperwhite sale started it seems. Now it sells for 94$ for 8GB version (99$ for 16GB) and Refurbished sells for 89$. For this price it's a nobrainer choice over 2022 basic model which sells for 99$ still.
Wonder if I need to upgrade my paperwhite...
Is the big screen worth it?
Really like the new basic Kindle but I like the bigger screen on the Paperwhite.
I do not like the blue color on the basic, but I think the size will fit more on my small hands.
ive been using kindle Paperwhite. i love it so much, only that i wish it's smaller. i have to hold it with 2 hands or stretch one hand to grip it.
The new Kindle looks nice enough, I think is a good option now for new eReader users. Thanks for the info on it.
It is all about contrast. I had a Kindle Paperwhite 10th gen and the new one is not miles away in size. Although the new basic Kindle remains with a 6" screen, it is now more compact and compared with the 11th-generation Paperwhite, makes it look like way bigger. I have seen it in the store and decided on the Paperwhite as in the UK, they drop the PW price from £149 to £109 PW (and the basic £85). I'm really happy with the Paperwhite. The sunken screen accumulate dust and It messes with my OCD.
I wish the Basic had a warm light.
Are you sure they’re both 300 PPI screens? Or are you sure the Basic has higher density of pixels because it’s smaller? Sorry if this is a silly question but isn’t PPI a measure of density since it’s pixels per inch?
I do get that two screens with the same resolution (e.g. 4K) would have different PPI and hence density of pixels if they were different sizes. The smaller one would be as described in this video. But for these Kindles isn’t it the PPI that’s the same rather than the resolution? I would have thought the density of pixels would be the same.
It's not because the size of the screen. Paperwhite has more layers above the screen. This reduces the contrast. Kindle Basic doesn't have those layers and looks crisper.
Personally, I was disappointed with Oasis and Paperwhite 2021 after using Kindle Voyage for a couple of years. Text on the newer Kindles with flush screens looks kinda blurry to me.
@@proradus the reviewer said the pixels are more dense on the basic because the screen is smaller. But they’re both 300 ppi so it should be the same density if I’m understanding correctly.
Yeah, this is an unfortunate comment from the reviewer. The pixel density per area should be the same for both. Paperwhite, due to the larger size, has just more pixels in total. It looks like the text size/zoom has been adjusted to sort of 'zoom in' on the Paperwhite to take advtange of the larger screen, so things look more spacious.
The reviewer also did not fully match the sizes of the fonts while comparing the reading experience.
Yeah you’re right. If two displays have the same ppi, they have the same sharpness regardless of screen size.
Reviewer is confusing ppi with resolution
Options are always great. The more different models we have available, the better.
I seen another video that said the kindle basic had lock screen ads and you have to pay $20 to remove them?
I'm glad Amazon keeps bringing more features to their basic model.
Thanks for the comparison, but I would like to get that Tolino Shine 4 (Kobo Clara 2e Clone) :)
I have the basic 10th gen and the new PW5 and It is a great combo. The basic to go out on the town and the PW5 to read at home. I think the basic is a great version. I would love to get a blue one.
I have the basic 10th gen (white color) and I'm already so happy. I love the white color and the size is small and light. It fits in my purse 😆
The density is tighter? They are both 300ppi
So I got the basic maybe two yrs ago during a black Friday even for $50... I'm fighting the want to upgrade
Kindle does offer a pretty broad choice of products, but I feel like Pocketbook, Cobo and others still offer more for less money 🤔
They look nice, but nothing beats a Kobo. I'm still rocking the original Aura (although it's showing its age)
I was deciding between the Paperwhite and the Basic (2022) and came to the conclusion that I'd save a little money and get the Basic Kindle, until the next iteration comes. Maybe a "Color" Kindle that I've heard rumors about 🤔
A color Kindle would be a game changer. Would be so nice to have the book cover's colors match with the original.
@@TimeIdle Definitely! I highly doubt it will be anytime soon though.
@@mordaeu1411 I know. Amazon ain't no Apple. But that's the part of the Kindle's charm and value -- it's a limited/low tech product that would last for years. And even if they do come out with an color E-Ink one soon, I would still wait for (1) the price to go down and (2) them to clear out all the kinks first.
@@TimeIdle Oh for sure. I'm perfectly fine with waiting.
Very interesting!! thanks!
Love the paper whites bigger screens
good luck for the contest
I just bought the basic Kindle before they re-released the improved version but I got mine for so cheap and since I literally use it to only read ebooks I think I'm alright for now. I'm not in a hurry to upgrade but I am interested to try out the Kobos
I went for Kobo Libra 2 and extremely satisfied
@@illyuminetran6060
The Kobo Libra 2 is an apple of Eden. Unfortunately, in my country it is more expensive than the Oasis, incredible as it may seem.
I have used a Paper White for the last 7 years,(am on my 2nd) ever since turning pages of an actual physical book, and I enjoy knowing I can still read. Thank you, Amazon Kindle.
Thanks now I opt for the paperwhite
I wish amazon could somehow incorporate rapid-page turn for normal novels, not just comics/manga.
Actually 300ppi is the density. The density must be the same on both of them. Pixels per inch => ppi
lovely readers & the size of the paperwhite is just perfect!
Good info, very helpful
Is the warm light really worth it? I love the basic on all directions but what’s stopping me from still buying is that warm light option on the paper white. Help!
it may be.
i absolutely love turning on dark mode and then warm light to the max in complete darkness. it’s so easy on the eyes.
i also like to match a paper book sometimes because i don’t really like bright blue lights.
i usually have it mid ways in the evening.
i think the important factor is the flexibility with having that warm light option and everything in between.
the paperwhite is very lightweight without a case, but i wish the size was smaller. warm light is worth it though.
I ended up with the paper white and so glad I did! I only use the warm light on it! I agree with the size, it will be great if it was smaller but I already got used to the size and I love it!
@@palomayglesias i LOVE happy endings
Following this channel lately and its GOOD. Waiting for the giveaway...:)
Well said, kindle basic in usd120 is definitely expensive if one were to buy it from other country.
Planning to get pw4
Love the new color on the kindle
The small one looks cute!
The blue one it’s perfect ! Kindle basic
Great devices, i like the signature one!
really wish amazon would release a paperwhite mini. go the opposite direction imo, release a paperwhite mini with usb-c, the flush screen, but the same screen size as the xiaomi inkpalm mini gen 3
Why do you prefer the flush screen ? Isn't the sunken one with more crispy words is better ?
@@abdul-wahabbashir4809 just feels nicer to me and it's also less likely to trap water given that its a single unbroken pane. the crispy text can be had on either screen
Basic is good value for the money. But screen size and resolution is a bigger factor for me. Overall I prefer Kobo and Onyx Boox above Kindle. I am not a fan of the Amazon ecosystem.
The new kindle looks amazing
Which do you recommend to read manga, the Paperwhite or the basic?
Paperwhite
here for the contest! 😊
Excited for the giveaway of the Tolino Shine 4. :D
Hoping to win the contest.
Great Video!
I love the kindle paperwhite's size more than the basic kindle
So when is the giveaway?
Btw I have paperwhite. I think I am going for basic version since its size its smaller and has also backlight. Small is good for the one handers.
Denim? There are other case colours than black? OMG! Crazy... But the signature edition does look nice.
The new color of kindle paperwhite is good too😍
I got the basic one so it can fit in any bag I have
haha what is the overwatch book? Great versus btw. Thank you
It's video for Tolino?
Nice comparison
Kindle basic 2002 looks like it's basically a pw4 with sunken screen
Reconsidering my decision now
I would buy the Paperwhite because I prefer the bigger screen and the warm light option but it’s an almost 3 years device and I think Amazon will launch the new model in the next months
PS: the basic and the Paperwhite version have both 300 ppi, this means the exact same density 😅
Good review
Hopefully I can start my e reader life with a kobo clara
would kindle be better than kobo?
If only someone would be able to by pass the os for older devices it would be good.
Does it have the same speed?
3:59 "they are both 300ppi screens"
4:05 "they density [on the kindle 2022] is tighter"
How can the density be the _same_ (i.e. 300ppi) on both and at the same time "tighter" on the 2022?
Because screen size is bigger so text size needs to be bigger.
i like the smaller screen
wait for it!
Hmm, I guess ill go for the basic
Looks great
I bought the 2019 basic model. Don't think the extra price is needed. At least not for me.
same for me. Bought the 2019 basic . it does the job for me
@@BisayaReader yep same.
@@BisayaReader sameeee
4:00 that doesn't make any sense. The ppi describes how dense the pixel are sitting next to each other, meaning if both devices have the same ppi they are also identical in sharpness, no matter what the size difference is.
I weather keep my basic kindle because it fit my hand perfectly and I don’t want a big screen
I miss my Kindle DX.
