Indra Nooyi has clear knowledge of what goes into the leadership of a company and has the ability to articulate those thoughts well. I have heard her speak at a private event years ago, where she expressed similar thoughts about the necessity of a leader to know the nuts and bolts of the company that he/she leads, as well as a vision for its growth and direction. Her advice about getting a sense of the market by taking a walk at a grocery store to look at the company’s products ( if it’s a consumer product company) on the shelves and gather knowledge about frontline work, as well as develop the direction for leading the company by learning all there is to know- the curiosity- mixed with humor, still resonates today.
It’s contradiction what she is saying if board members are not supposed to be actively involved in CEOs work than later what role are they just being front person of shareholder? Just taking fiscal years ends reports revenues made or not made, what? Because there is nothing you can do as board member front person of shareholders but go by fiscal report of revenues and whether by vote remove ceo or not how many years given to head not showing revenues or break evens and causes of it valid or not going by markets market shares and which way company’s products/ services out there in consumer markets at what levels are those products markets are changing all the time why if those competitions offered at lesser prices consumer shares which demographic products being offered to which economic layers, tastes of human beings change their pockets monies change so do the markets , product is offered in domestic market or international also ,what can be done to bring in revenues all these things matter so board members do it or ceo both have to understand markets and products offered
