Use Tennis Balls to Improve Punch Speed & Timing

  • For this reaction drill, all you need is 2 tennis balls. This drill will get progressively more challenging, as you catch the ball while emulating a punch motion to improve your speed, accuracy, and timing. If you're practicing for boxing, focus on the hands and footwork, but if you're training MMA or kickboxing, add in some elbows, kicks, and knees.

    This also looks like it can be solid cardio, to boot. Really good for folks that're trying to train without having equipment or don't have steady access to a gym.

    Try doing it while looking at your target area instead of the balls. You can't watch fists flying at you, make it a natural reaction.

    I came up with that idea in 2011 in the pen. Use a hand ball works a lot better. Keep your knees slightly bent. Try releasing the ball inthe air switching punches, drop the ball and strike again catching the ball using left hooks get low as if going to the body, same concept dropping the ball and shooting your uppercut. Stay moving....

  • @firedfried
    @firedfried 5 років тому

    Hey man, great video. I train only with one ball for mnetary reason (yeah... the only one I got was found anyway hehehe). one thing I fid great to mention is leg work: whenever a ball fly away, I run to catch it and run back to the spot to keep on training. I do it for rounds as a warm up. What I do is trhow against the wall with one hand (starting from guard position) and catch with the other, the vice versa.

    • @firedfried
      @firedfried 5 років тому

      abother thing that I do is bounce with diferent strenght on the flour, but only catch them as the are in the height of my face, messing with the timing of punches
