Parley Baer was a great actor in his time. He played the mayor in The Andy Griffith show perfectly…. I couldn’t stand him in that role. Rest well Sir.
Absolutely one of my all-time favorites. Film-making at its best, in my opinion. Superb acting -- can't even imagine any two people as a better fit for Lillian & Lewis, or any of the other characters! -- wonderful cinematography & locations, wonderful story line, & the musical score is amazing!! I loved Eugene Blackbear as Chief Spotted Elk! I bought & watched this movie back in the mid-to-late 90s, but love it as much today as then. Tonight, for the first time, I watched the Director's Comments. All the things he pointed out, that he thought he could've done better, such as changing what he thought might be potentially corny lines, I totally disagree with. It is PERFECT just as it is!! And the emotional scenes where Lewis is leaving Zip with the little Indian girl? I LOVED it -- he was SO real!! Just a beautiful movie!! So AUTHENTIC!!
Parley Baer was a great actor for a long time.
Baer had a very distinctive voice, among other qualities. He also portrayed a wide range of people.

I have this on VHS ( boy that's dated ) And yes the voice of Chester just a little more gravel in it with age.

You should buy the DVD on Amazon or eBay -- much better quality, & inexpensive!
The concept of this plot, a way of life, untouched by modern man, unchanged, kept pure...innocence almost. They did know they HAD to stay hidden. THAT makes this movie one of my favorites!
