Incredible! Danny Hutton's voice hasn't slipped in the 35+ years when this song first was released. What a great band!! They played so much diverse music. Why can't anybody make music like this again??? Thank you for posting this gem.
We need more acceptance of one another and love poured out to all ... Especially the way things are right now. But hey, love will always show us the way! It only takes a thought..a step forward .and a moment to spread the light!
This is the BEST version of Black and White I've ever heard! They get better the older they get!!!! They should play this version on the radio instead of the original!!!!!!
I can't understand why tremendous groups like these guys don't keep on making music? With all of the baby boomers out there they should be able to sell it.....I know I would buy it.
Me too! We had such grand hopes and dreams. I get so disappointed we didn't meet our goals of saving the earth the sea having food labeled bad chemicals banned organic food and at the top EQUALITY FOR ALL
Few bands ever had the strong vocal from multiple singers. Even fewer can come back 30+years later with most of the same vocalist and still lay it down hard. Hats off the 3 dog night. You have done that and set the bar very high for reunited bands. Only other that ranks like this IMO is the eagles.
@ZepZoSoRox Haha fantastic! He was the all state Florida jazz drummer as a kid. He's still a beast. He learned to play from my dad (his brother). great sense of humor with both of them. I learned to drum from them haha. Gotta keep the family line of drummers going. And YES! Zeppelin!!! Bonham is amazing!
If you look up this video recorded back in the 70's its still a classic. I don't know if its the recording technology or if they just got better, but this is the best version of BLACK AND WHITE I've ever heard. It's even better than the studio version you hear on the radio.
Written in 1954 by David I. Arkin and Earl Robinson, Three Dog Night's cover is most popular. The song was inspired by the United States Supreme Court decision of Brown v. Board of Education (1954), which outlawed racial segregation of public schools. The original lyrics of the song opened with this verse, in reference to the court: Their robes were black, Their heads were white, The schoolhouse doors were closed so tight, Nine judges all set down their names, To end the years and years of shame. However, the version of the song recorded by Greyhound, and subsequently covered by Three Dog Night, did not include this verse - making the song more universal, but also less historically specific.
Wow. Danny Hutton sounds absolutely amazing here. He sounds even better here than he does in the 1974 concert version that's also here on UA-cam. Loved this so much I watched it a few times in a row. It's a gem of an oldie that's for sure. Fantastic job Danny, keep singing!
lyacky1 he DOES sound great as does the entire production this is just a guess but the reason this sounds better than in 1974 is: artist is not likely high in 2008 trying harder because in 1974 they were at the top of their fame and they did not need to give as much effort more pride in their work (fully appreciate their own legacy) better tech they bring back great memories
Who's still grooving to this in 2021? Me! ❤This song and group never gets old! Who wants to go back to the 60s and 70s? Yeah, there were problems but there was so much hope and promise for the future. The music was so much better. The world hadn't lost it's collective mind and we could still talk to each other.
We respected one another more. We also had so much less yet people today are more angrier and stressed out. I never imagined having technology like we have today. Sure there were problems but I miss the 60s & 70s
Hey, are any of you going to their concert in San Bernardino? If so, you should look into booking the San Bernardino Hilton's special promotion for concert-goers. Only $89/night.
Happy 50th anniversary to this song, it was released this time in 1972(it’s Labor Day weekend 2022 as I post my comment.) It made the top ten songs of 1972, as well as Knights in white satin(Moody blues), I can see clearly now(Johnny Nash), and My Dingaling (Chuck Berry). Here’s to another 50 years for this song to live on. :)
I'm sorry but there is one missing link here. Chuck Negron. Cory and Danny are great but they need to bring Chuck back into this if they ever expect to be Three Dog Night. But maybe that's just me.
The world is black, the world is white It turns by day and then by night A child is black A child is white The whole world looks upon the sight A beautiful sight The world is black, the world is white It turns by day and then by night A child is black A child is white Together they grow to see the light To see the light Such a greatest song I ever listented in my whole life. Thank you, dad. Your golden oldies seventies stuff gave me a beautiful moment tonight to always remember.
To all fans of Chuck: Chuck hasn't been with the band for 30 years. He was fired for excessive drug use and Cory and Danny won't take him back due to all of the drama and problems he caused in the past and might cause in the present. (They offered to take him back once he became sober in the 90s, but he made so many demands that they withdrew the offer). Moreover, most, if not all, of Chuck's fans believe that he was totally and solely responsible for the success of TDN in the 60s-70s. If this is the case, then why hasn't his solo career been more successful compared to Lionel Ritchie (post Commodores); Michael McDonald (post Steely Dan/Doobie Brothers); Peter Cetera (post Chicago); Phil Collins/Peter Gabriel (post Genesis)., etc. The aforementioned artists equaled or exceeded the popularity, fame, number of hits, etc., of their respective former bands. Chuck has not..
Rita--It boggles the mind that someone could make so laughable and ridiculous a statement as "most, if not all, of Chuck's fans believe that he was totally and solely responsible for the success of TDN in the 60s-70s." All "Chuck fans" I know are first and foremost Three Dog Night fans. They realize and appreciate the fact that TDN'S enormous success is a result of the combined effort and talent of the original seven members. In the early, formative days it's undeniable that Chuck was the face of the group. He was the one most recognized by fans and the media. This isn't saying he was better or contributed more. Unlike your comment on the Ron Onesti/Danny Hutton interview video where you state "Danny Hutton was, is and will always be Three Dog Night."
Love it when present (or ex) wives argue on behalf of their respective spouses. Quite eloquent, actually! I was just thinking the band sounds great here with orchestra, albeit the song is faster and boppier than the original, but kudos for Danny for still being able to sing in the original key when most "mature" artist have dropped a tone or more.
The fact that they couldn't get it together just Inc more time was too bad. Now that Corey has left us, it truly isn't TDN anymore. All three plus the great band made it TDN
Having toured through South Africa twice.. and considering they put up with that crap with well over 3 centuries, and that many of the Caucasions felt that God himself "gave" them South Africa.. lemme tell you... that country has done one hell of an AMAZING job with itself. They could have had a murderous and ruinous civil war and it would not have been civil. Instead they have done amazing and inspirational things there. I'm a Yank, by the way.....
@rayjr62 I got to see Chuck Negron a few years back in concert. He did go through a lot problems with drugs and stuff. I figured it was the reason they split with him. Howveer it appears he is right with things and he sounded great. I was stuck in traffic but got there in time to here him sing Old Fashioned Sove Song/ 60+ but he was great.
@michaelsmorrison Correct it is a folk song celebrating the Supreme Courts Oliver Brown vs Topeka Board of Education victory. The lyrics were originally "Their robes were black their heads were white the school house doors were closed so tight nine judges all, set down their names, to end the years, and years of shame" etc.
@snow0355 I'm not insulting TDN I'm insulting Christo0895. My uncle's in the band so I'm definitely not insulting them. And this is my private battle arena because I am awesome and freedom of speech is win.
yea at least when this song came out it was trying to show people dont look at a persons color a child is white a child is black people got to listen to the words not just the music.
@mindfreak990 KooL! Us drummers have to stick together...right? I have tickets to see them Aug. 7th in Conifer, CO. can't wait!!! LOVE...PEACE...HAPPINESS... Zep
Actually its the same level as the cascades, ritchie valens etc. They have the talent..but the broke up ends all of them..They sure CAN beat but not for now.
wow, the Dog lives!!! the sound quality is so freakin excellent! witht he orchestra, the tunes are even better than orginal! danny and corey still rock, unbelievable!
This is a 1950's folk song, (might be earlier), listen to the words - Merry Christmas whatever colour creed or religion. Let's just live our lives IT DOSEN'T MATTER
I guess I’m the only one still listening to this masterpiece! No comments in forever
I grew up with this type of music 🎶 and I love ❤️ it so much
Incredible! Danny Hutton's voice hasn't slipped in the 35+ years when this song first was released. What a great band!! They played so much diverse music.
Why can't anybody make music like this again??? Thank you for posting this gem.
Two dog Night. RIP Cory Wells...Time for Hutton and Chuck Negron to tour!
Damn, I think they're better then back in the day
A beautiful sight!!!!
The only "bad" thing about this song is that it is way too short. What an amazing performance!
Three Dog Night is the best
You got this right
This was my first 45 I bought from my pocketmoney in the early 70's! Of course it sounded different from this version! -
holy shit i love this song its amazing and i heard it on the radio for the first time when i went hunting with my brothers and dad!
The message behind this tune is about accepting others as we want to be accepted and that’s why this one gets me a little misty eyed. Very touching
&
Did you know a three dog night is an Australian term for very very cold night
....
It means that you have a couple of dogs to help keep you warm.
We need more acceptance of one another and love poured out to all ...
Especially the way things are right now.
But hey, love will always show us the way!
It only takes a thought..a step forward .and a moment to spread the light!
@@sarahbravo5775 You hit the nail right on the nose
The same as "The Golden Rule"
Well, the song was actually inspired by Brown vs Board of Education decision....it's been around many years.
This is the BEST version of Black and White I've ever heard! They get better the older they get!!!! They should play this version on the radio instead of the original!!!!!!
"Black and White" is a song written in 1954 by David I. Arkin and Earl Robinson.
Who cares if Chuck Negron isn't there, they still kick ass!!!
I can't understand why tremendous groups like these guys don't keep on making music? With all of the baby boomers out there they should be able to sell it.....I know I would buy it.
Gawd these guys are great! They sure beat the Bee gees and lots others. They didnt get enough reconigtion.
70's were the best music ever. Wish I could go back in time.
I was there...... magic
Me too! We had such grand hopes and dreams. I get so disappointed we didn't meet our goals of saving the earth the sea having food labeled bad chemicals banned organic food and at the top EQUALITY FOR ALL
I remember when they were good when I see good songs like this 😍
Yeah ....Me to...
Except for Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak. Can’t wait for their album release!
One of the very best bands of the 70's - make no mistake...they could sing then, they can sing now. *woohoo*!!!
Hello my friend. Where are you from
This is my favorite song by Three Dog Night. Danny sings it beautifully a real talent after all these years and singing it live. Bravo🌟

Hi Margaret how are you doing today

OMG he sounds the same I just love it!!!!!!! Take a Lesson youth of today look at what real entertainers look and sound like :)
@ZepZoSoRox Haha fantastic! He was the all state Florida jazz drummer as a kid. He's still a beast. He learned to play from my dad (his brother). great sense of humor with both of them. I learned to drum from them haha. Gotta keep the family line of drummers going.

A forgotten band in the history books of music.

+LYacky1 Danny is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!
You got it, Yacky.
Impressive!
lyacky1
he DOES sound great as does the entire production
this is just a guess but the reason this sounds better than in 1974 is:
artist is not likely high in 2008
trying harder because in 1974 they were at the top of their fame and they did not need to give as much effort
more pride in their work (fully appreciate their own legacy)
better tech
they bring back great memories
Holy fuck!
@Lotsoffun111 His name is Chuck Negron, he's been out of the group since the mid 1980's.
Very true!
God Bless that pretty Soul!
i do that song in music at school
"The Three Dog Night Group Band Was One Of The Best Of Our Times!" "A Lot Of Good Memories!"
Thomas Sanzi re-live the memory...one day at a time
Should be in Hall of Fame
THREE DOG NIGHT, THREE DOG NIGHT 🎶🎶🎶
damn that voice! love it.
Who's still grooving to this in 2021? Me! ❤This song and group never gets old! Who wants to go back to the 60s and 70s? Danny’s voice is pretty powerful here. Alway liked the voice of Cory. RIP
I hope I can ROCK it LIKE these cats when I'm in my 70's baby. ;-)
55 and still going strong.
Danny really shone on this song. he too was very talented
Hey, are any of you going to their concert in San Bernardino? If so, you should look into booking the San Bernardino Hilton's special promotion for concert-goers. Only $89/night.
One of a few performers that sound the same on record and live.
It's called talent. Not autotune.
One of my all time favorites. I was "on the air" during the early '70s an "picked this song to click". Thanks for the replay!
Beautiful masterpiece, all God's children
me to old school sisters fav band she's 65
Danny Hutton is a special talent. Even at his age he can still bring it with the best of them.
Decades later still fighting for peace. Stop all the fighting

Love this song
I’ve been listening to this song while lip singing and shouting out to everyone lol😂
I remember this song when I was sixteen in a coin record machine in a pool parlour in the school holidays im now 61 good beat
They were great
Hutton, Wells, and Negron: all 72 years young!
blissfullB Except that Chuck Negron hasn't been part of the band for decades, despite cleaning up his act. Without him, it ain't "Three Dog Night."
Hey, where's Chuck Negron?? That's not his photo on this video.
The world is black, the world is white
It turns by day and then by night
A child is black
A child is white
The whole world looks upon the sight
A beautiful sight
The world is black, the world is white
It turns by day and then by night
A child is black
A child is white
Together they grow to see the light
To see the light
