Children don't see black or white. They see each other the same. Friends ❤️
They say that the adults can learn from children, because like Elvis, he was a child who didn’t care what the color of your skin was, and adults should learn to love their fellow human beings no matter what race..
Kim, unfortunately some do not.
@@philipdickey6460 no, you still have bad parents that lead to bad kids...so much these days.
@@michaelasay8587 but that's taught to them unfortunately ☮️
@@philipdickey6460 absolutely
The 70's to me, were all about, peace, harmony, love, and equality....they really believed the world should only be once race *(HUMAN)* ❣❣❣
The world still needs this message.
Actually, more than ever!!! The world is more messed up than it ever has been.🗺😥
Sadly now more than ever.
I remember this song as a kid ,kids make you see the world differently. In a blink of an eye they are grown . Cherish your family and children even in the worst of times . ✌ ♥
This was written in the 50's after the Brown v Board of Education decision that was intended to abolish segregation in schools. In the 70s this was still relevant since actual de-segregation primarily in the form of busing was being implemented with a lot of resistance. A beautiful song in its own right but the context makes it even more special
One of my favorite songs of all time
Black and White was written by Earl Robinson in 1954. His other famous songs are "Ballad for Americans" and "Joe Hill".
Their robes are black
Their heads are white..
Something like that
Reference to SCOTUS
@@andrewyoung2796 The schoolhouse doors were closed so tight,
Nine judges all set down their names,
To end the years and years of shame.
"Black and White" is a song written in 1954 by David I. Arkin and Earl Robinson. It was first recorded by Pete Seeger featuring an African-American child, in 1956 from the album "Love Songs for Friends & Foes".
The most successful recording of the song was the pop version by "Three Dog Night" in 1972, when it reached number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Easy Listening charts.
Brad & Lex, you'll love their "Shambala" !!!! Three lead singers in this 70s hit machine!
The song was inspired by the United States Supreme Court decision of Brown v. Board of Education (1954), which outlawed racial segregation of public schools.
I grew up with this type of music and movies. My wife (30 years) and I are interracial and we forget about it at times…except for the last few years it’s been so politicized and sick. God bless the baby and best wishes
Because there's ego and pride on either side. No need to know enough to accurately guess that you the man is black and she is white, or hispanic, or asian, or any other female race. There's more to it than just race, but because it's easy to play the victim the former is the easiest way to portray that.
So true. Thank you !
That was back when popular culture tried to bring us all together rather than divide us like the current push is.
The racial divide is all by design by the globalist elites who want us divided so we don't pay attention to their sinister plans for war. IMO
If you forgot about it at times, than you don't live in one of those Red States, more specifically, Florida.
Feel good music!!!!!!!1
i just turned 54 yesterday , when i was in elementary school in Queens NY, we didnt have to see any light on race!! my friends were my friends . Black Asian, spanish, jewish greek!! it didnt matter. we played baseball went fishing and swimming. we never saw color, none of us did! it was only until politicians decided to divide us for power that things seem to have gotten worse.
That baby’s gonna have a great taste for music.
Monster drummer Floyd Sneed pounding out the beat, hitting the cowbell and the bell of his crash cymbal. RIP, Floyd.
There was a "feel good" genre that was popular around then. See also Ray Stevens "Everything is Beautiful"
And the Streak.
My dad's all-time favorite group.
Watch them on Midnight Special . They enjoy performing . Old Fashioned Love Song is my favorite to watch !
I’ve always liked this song
Talk about a song that has aged well! The powerful words in this song
apply to every generation, especially now. It's all about Love! ♥
I was born in 64. In my life I have seen a lot of progress. The glass is half-full!
I started school in 1964 in small town La. there was 1 black kid in the whole place. the Supreme Court decision had occurred 10 years before. but much of the country( esp. the south) ignored it. a few years later, the family moved to Texas and saw virtually the same thing ( that town didn't fully integrate until 70. but I agree, there's been an enormous amount of change.
My parents had this album when I was about 5; I loved this song and I thought this was a kid’s song then; still makes me smile ❤
Great song, great pick. My favorite song by them. When I was growing up, my sister's friend's husband was a teacher. This was his favorite song and I remember him saying, things are getting better but we have a way to go. He loved all his students and I was only 8 years old and I remember that. Sadly he passed away from cancer at 30 yrs old. I remember that loss still today.
A nursery rhyme that has themes even adults can learn from. Also, MORE COWBELL!!!
Well said, especially the cowbell.
@@aliciasaracino1233 Thank You Alicia.
Monster drummer Floyd Sneed pounding out the beat, hitting the cowbell and the bell of his crash cymbal. RIP, Floyd.
@@aliciasaracino1233 we need more cowbell 😂
With all the unrest in the country when this song came out it had a very deep emotional meeting
This song and comment section both give a warm feeling of hopefulness.
I hope YT doesn't ban it.
❤ the 70s. Many gems. Keep exploring.
I remember this song from my youth. Around 1970. Very positive and inclusive message. Thank you for covering this.
I love what Brad said . . "It sounds like common sense" . . . that's what we need . . . some common sense would solve a whole lotta problems today. Great reactions thanks y'all!
Grew up with Three Dog Night and I still listen to them
How can you not enjoy Three Dog Night's music? Should be in the R&R Hall of Fame but shamefully missing (among others). Their song themes are often simple, but the deliveries are anthemic
Also Three dog night.. just an Old fashioned love song
Lex--you got this one...you feel the vibe!
Lexi you are right on about that! They get you into your childhood spirit with many of their songs!
A truer song had never been written. If only we actually lived up to our ideals.
I'm an old fart, not a creep, but I just love you guys. All this music with which I grew you are now experiencing. I feel so much love. And, yes, I was so lucky to grow up in this era. And my mom loved most of the music during this time. She bought me albums I couldn't have afforded. And I so love her for that. Miss her so much.
I love this song.❤
This song has such a powerful message and we all have to learn to live together regardless of our skin color.
I love this song and its energy... It was played frequently when I was a teen in the 70s and it still energizes me to sing it loudly in my car (with no one else to hear off key singing). Sometimes, it makes me cry... to me it was a celebration of humanity. I love their analysis... nursery rhyme for adults...
You never go wrong with these guys. We were so hopeful. I recommend “In The Country” and “Brickyard Blues.”
In the Country is so soothing! 🌎
@@angier5775 one of my all time favorites
Great group of guys & a great song ! Oh! A great reaction also!🎶💜🎶
One of my all time favorite songs!!
Y'all be safe.
This is one of my favorite groups. I was 8-10 years old when this came out! They have a live video for this song. These guys are fun to watch!!
This was a song written after Brown vs Board of Education ruling in 1954! Sang by Pete Seeger! It overturned the separate but equal doctrine of 1912!
I was a kid when this song came out. Still makes this old white guy tear up after 50 years. Such beauty and optimism.
Side note: the drums are a vibe of their own. Recorded straight without overdubbing according to the liner notes.
Great song
Love the children singing in the background, one of my favorites of theirs
I saw in the comments section where people referenced how this song was written about the Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education that overturned racial segregation in public schools. That is true. The original lyrics included the verse, "Their robes were black, their heads were white, The schoolhouse doors were closed so tight, Nine judges all set down their names, To end the years and years of shame"
Great song, Great message.
The African Canadian, black drummer for Three Dog Night was Floyd Chester Sneed who was born November 22, 1942 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and died January 27, 2023 at 80 years of age, was a Canadian drummer for the band Three Dog Night. He became interested in drums at at a young age. His first drum kit was gifted from his older sister Maxine who was married to the musician/actor Tommy Chong of Cheech & Chong who was also a Canadian. In 1966 he formed his own band and moved to Los Angeles, California. In 1968 Floyd Sneed met three vocalists Danny Hutton, Chuck Negron, and Cory Wells of Three Dog Night who were looking for backing musicians, he then joined their new band as drummer until it broke up in 1977. But he continued to work with other bands including a longer extended tour with The Ohio Players.
The innocence of children!
Hope your baby can grow up in a beautiful world. There is no difference, only colour,
WE ARE ALL HUMANS. We all hurt, we all bleed the same, we all love. Let's all be kids and love one an other!
You go kids! Just hope it's a great life for you two and number three soon.
Love ya's!
Maybe leave "Mama Told Me Not To Come" off the nursery playlist 😁
I was a teenager. We all understood it as a celebration of humanity. That at the end of the day we're all human and we should love and care for one another. This was at the end of the peacenik era.
Check out, Joy to the world, great song
"Black and White" is a song written in 1954 by David I. Arkin (lyricist and father of actor Alan Arkin) and Earl Robinson (music). It was first recorded by Pete Seeger featuring an African-American child, in 1956 from the album Love Songs for Friends & Foes.
The most successful recording of the song was the pop version by Three Dog Night in 1972, when it reached number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Easy Listening charts. Billboard ranked it as the number 63 song for 1972.[1] Danny Hutton sang the lead vocals with a children's chorus adding their voices to the song. " wiki
I used to listen to this as a kid and loved it. I was born in 68 and I think this is 72. Can you react to another song from that time. Johnny Nash "I can see clearly now"
You would love their song “Out In The Country” ♥️ It’s beautiful 🎼
Time machine! I was in middle school when this was released. So sweet and simple; I love the use of various percussion instruments to create a specific tribal feel...a world community! Yeah! 🥰✨💕🎶🙏🏻 The schools were being integrated here in the southeast, when this was released.
Shooting all around a great song by them !!! Pieces Of April !!!
Integration of the American Education system...beautiful childhood memories...
I’ve known this song since I was about 4-5 years old. 17 next month. Still such a beautiful song & message. 🫶🏻
You nailed this one Lex!, You go girl!👍✌️
One of the best rock acts I've ever seen, back in the day. And the back-up band was phenomenal as well. Notice the little bit of French accent in that second "Liberty"! Good vibe band indeed! Thanks!
There was no "back-up band". Three Dog Night was a band with 7 members.
Danny Hutton here. Fantastic voice and my favorite singer from the trio.
Loved Three Dog Night back in the 70's. Danced around our living room in the 90's with my kids when they were little. Just great music. Good for the soul.
I was an 80s/90s kid, but I was raised on music like this. I think the 60s and 70s were the greatest eras in music, and I'm not shy about saying so. I'm more partial to the 60s myself, and this was one of my favorites from Three Dog Night.
I'm not lying when I say the music of my youth beats the hell out of most newer music.
I listened to this song before I adopted a child from Russia. Great band, great song. ❤️
I remember riding in the very back of my parent's green Volare station wagon in the 70s listening to this!
The 70's were such a great time. Lex gets it i think, its such a simple message put in a way adults and even a small child could understand. Keep them coming guys :)
The Family of Man , y'all is my favorite Three Dog Night song its one to try out if you haven't heard it. Thanks friends
Beautiful song and a beautiful message.
This song reminds me of being in the car with my mom in the early 70s listening to AM radio. It seemed so many songs at the time had nursery rhyme like qualities. Besides this one I think of Clint Holmes "Playground In My Mind" and Carpenters "Sing A Song". Maybe having songs so easy to sing along to helped to turn me into the music fan I became. As far as the subject matter of this, yes targeted more to adults.
As young as I was I already took the subject matter for granted I didn't need to learn it from a song. I feel like you are born knowing this and only the culture or your environment can make you think anything different.
I love “Playground in my Mind”!
I loved “playground in my mind” and “Sing a Song”!
@@terri2494 My middle name is Michael so I could relate to the boy who had a nickel.
@@StatisticsJason That’s neat to feel a special connection to something on the radio. It’s not quite the same thing but that reminded me that I always hoped the Romper Room lady would call my name. She never did.
Three Dog Night is my ultimate favorite group...Prince also...love your Purple Rain Sweatshirt btw!
The video for the song brings another level to the meaning.
I am glad I grew up when it was possible to see so many of these bands live.
You are right Brad . . . WTG. You too Lex . . . Y'all are great.
The live videos of the band gives you a vibe and a look at the past and joy of performing that just listening to the song does not.
The song was older than the band Three Dog Night. It was written on 1954 to celebrate the decision by the Supreme Court in the Brown versus Board of Education case. When Three Dog Night put the song out in 1972 they were in the midst of acting on that decision and were integrating the schools around the country.
The first time I heard this beautiful song was on Top Of The Pops by Greyhound in 1971. It was good then and still is good now.
Jesus is the light teach your children to love not to hate! Make it a better place than when you came into it even a song can make a difference!
I was 13 when this song was a hit in 1972. It was only 3 years earlier, when I was 10 and in 5th grade, that schools where I lived (and in much of the country, particularly in the South), were desgregated. So, at the time this song was popular, black and white kids had spent most of their lives in a segregated world, and what seems perfectly normal now, was somewhat of an adjustment then for much of America. While there is still work to be done, we sure have come a long, long way, and that's why this song was popular and so relevant in 1972.
Danny Hutton is the lead vocal on this song which was No.1 on the Billboard chart for 2 weeks. Chuck Negron and Cory Wells were the back up vocals on this song!!!
Loved this song. We can all learn from it!
I remember my music teacher in 5th grade teaching us this song for spring choir show, she was African-American. As we sang this for our Greatest Generation and Silent Generation parents you could see the amazement and some barely concealed hate by them. They were expecting some song like Mister Sandman or other fluffy music.
This song was Three Dog Night's third and last #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 during the summer of 1972. It spent three weeks at the #1 spot. By the way, this song is not a lullaby song. A great song indeed!!!
Eli's Coming. Live version.... you have to check that out! TDN was a great staple of the late 60's/ 70's. My mom had all their albums. That's what I grew up listening to.
"Three Dog Night is nursery rhymes for adults." Lex nailed it!
in the early 70's I was bussed into inner city Washington DC as part of desegregation. all of us kids loved the same things. Our football team, fishing, and Chevy Corvettes
A mantra we should all live by.
One of my fav songs. My pic won!! Been waiting for this. In the video, they show the drummer is African American. Diversity in musicians, well, we don't care.
As a small kid growing up when this was a hit, I absolutely loved this song! It is by far my favorite Three Dog Night tune. Thanks for the memories!
Finally someone reacted to this song. Thanks,TDN was one of my favorite groups from my high school days. One of my favorite TDN song.
Time is a thief, love your children and to quote CSNY “Teach your children well” and see the world through the eyes of a child again, innocence 🤠
This song should be played for everyone in this world.
this was my first favourite song, ever. i was maybe 6 when it came out.
i love it, still.
I saw this band back in the late 60's in Miami. They did a great concert.
My decade (1970s) really had so much inspirational music!!
So right. Nursery rhymes for adults. Lex. You have some excellent insight.
Very specific memory with this song. I was a sophomore and I rode to school with my neighbor. This was playing when we pulled in to school. The paper and ink line was playing.
Three dog night! I had an eight-track of theirs. Love their music :)
This song landed when I was a little kid. I remember hearing it on the radio. The song celebrates public school desegregation, which actually began in earnest in early the seventies. Three Dog Night is an excellent choice of adult music to share with young children. "Joy To The World" (aka "Jeremiah was a Bullfrog") was another one of their songs from back then that I remember digging. For more such "kids fare", also check out The Beatles "Yellow Submarine", "Octopuses Garden", "Rocky Racoon", and "Here Comes The Sun".
Great song and reaction! One of my favorites when I was a kid.
Heh, our elementary school music teacher was pretty hip! (around '72 - '74) We sang this song, as well as others, like "One Tin Soldier".
