“Lay It On The Line” was written by Triumph founder Rik Emmett two years before it was released on their album Just A Game. The song was originally an acoustic tune before the band decided to arrange it as a rock number.

Citing fellow Canadian band Rush as a major influence, Triumph was part of the harder-edged progressive power-rock movement of the late '70s.
Following their breakout hit, “Hold On”, “Lay It On The Line” went on to become one of the band’s most popular songs.
In this exciting version of the tune, Gabriela is collaborating with a powerhouse of musicians that you’re sure to recognize. We hope you enjoy it!

This is an incredible performance! Gabi sounds flawless as usual, and Ken Mary has been one of my favourite drummers since the early 90’s when I first heard him on the Magdalen “Big Bang” album.
I can't tell you how much i love Triumph and what they have meant to me over the years. I saw them for the first time on January 19, 1985 in Atlanta. They struck me as being such a professional band who took their performances seriously. Rik Emmett just blew my mind and I have been following his career ever since.

They are over looked. check out US festival 82. Van Haley, motley crew lots of people on rock day. They boys came out and blew everyone. Out of the water. Check out the videos of their set. 👍
The real rockets know talent n triumph is one of the best ever.. I'm glad to grow up in the 80s ..I truly appreciate raw talent. Music is good for your soul.
@@batman1169 I was there. Probably about 3rd row center, smashed up against the stage barrier. Judas Priest came on right after Triumph. Those two bands both brought their absolute A-game. It was around 105 to 107 degrees that afternoon. Scorps did a solid show too, but the rest of the day was ho-hum, including Van Halen, which featured a completely polluted DLR, and them well over an hour late to the stage. But Triumph and Priest made that day entirely worth the price and the hassle of trying to camp out in the desert for 3 days. Some good Mickey Mouse tabs going round
@@batman1169 his guitar solo at that festival should be mandatory viewing for any person who picks up a guitar. Malmsteen always gets hailed as the master of mixing classical playing in but to me Emmett does it with more emotion and feeling.
First off, I want to mention that Triumph the band themselves shared the link to this video, and that is how I found it. And I'm sure glad for that! This tune has been a favorite of mine since I first heard it on their live album back in 1985 (which I still consider to be one of the best rock performances ever). What an absolutely brilliant version this is! Everyone absolutely nailed their parts. Gabriella is pure magic whenever she sings, and this was no exception. Loved it!

I can't agree more Trev. I love Triumph's Live album "Stages" it is one of my personal favorites. It certainly doesn't hurt that it was mastered by one of the best in Robert Ludwig. This cover is absolutely fantastic all the way around.

Oh man, where do I start. This is one of the greatest rock songs ever recorded and Triumph gets zero love. I mention Rik, Mike & Gil and Triumph when responding to various music posts all the time, it is a shame they get overlooked the way they do. You could do a bunch of videos on them.

Agree, I don't hear Triumph mentioned much as one of the greats. I first heard Just a Game in the late eighties as a teenager. I thought it was up there with Stairway to Heaven for epic songs. Had that album in vinyl, damn, another record that got lost in a move...

Triumph, probably one of the most underrated bands of all time, Love how they got Rudy playing base, One of the few people on the planet that if you were to ask him "What was it like to play with Randy Rhoads?" he can answer that. Triumph is suppose to be coming out with a documentary, a company called Banger films is doing it, they did one of DIO to i believe.

I'm a huge Triumph fan so that's nice that you say that about this song. Record Store Day this Saturday Triumph is the Canadian ambassadors of RSD in Canada. They have a huge box set coming out and it is something like I've never seen before in all of box sets. It is so incredible

I think the most impressive thing is the search I went on after hearing her do We All Die Young. The transformation of her voice from 2013 until now is staggering. Raw talent, then coached and trained until you have this masterful mix of power and perfect pitch. The cover is amazing (musicians are all fantastic), but Gabriela quickly vaulted to one of my favorite female vocalists of all time in the span of about two weeks...
