probably because its the cheapest engine ram has and it's going to be destroyed anyways
@@aidanmorgan6291 NHTSA buying the cheap model to save money on their budget.
The OEM still tests every engine configuration in the case of abnormalities on the bigger heavier motors light those iron block turbodiesel, they have a more "pointed" load, more chassis/firewall deformation.

no they are saving the cummins. i see it as a fair sacrifice to save the models with the cummins

I have a '19 2500 as well with a regular cab and long box... God damn has Ram made a nice truck. Fingers crossed, mine has the Cummins which is also an amazing engine but I hope it's not going to be troublesome with the emissions junk or injector pump issues.
Glad their using the gas trucks instead of wasting the diesels!
Same thing goes when they test muscle cars, it is nice to see them use the car with the lesser engine and save the desirable one
As much as I hate trucks, it still hurts to see brand new vehicles of any type being destroyed before anyone can use and enjoy them.
@@jamesdennis2058 I hope they at least are sent to a junkyard to be used as parts instead of sitting in the warehouse for the rest of their lives
Should have been the whole line up of 19-20 Cummins with cp4 pumps. Truck is trash

I cracked up on that one. Like a big bag of poo hit the floor lol.
We have been struck! TOW MIRRORS! ATTACKKKKK!!!!!!!!
lmfao!!
So that’s how you automatically flip out your mirrors!!! Good to know
I can't believe how much energy there is with a big heavy truck like this doing 35mph! If I would have to guess the speed by the amount of damage, I would have guessed at least 55mph. That was a lot of energy absorbed. The cab stayed intact.
That should buff right out. It’s just slightly used with low mileage
12 miles.
It went for a German shepherd to a pug in the blink of an eye
I’d like to see these same test while max towing a trailer. I bet they would have to
Lower all the tow rating if they did that kind of testing
🤦♂️🤫
Honestly though. Pick up truck tow ratings are getting way too high. It's going to be unsafe. 1500 towing 9000lbs-14000lbs when it should 10000lbs max, 2500 towing 15000lbs-23000lbs when it should be 15000lbs max, 3500 towing 26000lbs-40000lbs when its should be 25000lbs max.
@@foxwithshades7080 that’s what I’m saying. You pretty much need a CDL now just to max out a 2500. My 2020Hemi 6.4 rates at 17k. I think they should stop upping towing rating and work on ride, Hp and economy
Don't forget the trailer is required to have brakes too. What gives you the opinion the ratings are too high? Should they lower semi's from 80k to 65k based on your evaluation?
I think the enginerds have more documentation and facts to support that the trucks are more than capable.
@@foxwithshades7080 Right leave it to Dodge. Just because the trucks can doesn’t mean it should be an option.

With the big difference in weight between the hemi and the diesel it makes you wonder which one would perform better in this crash test.
Isn't the 5.7 mostly aluminum and the diesel 6.7 cast iron? Maybe the lighter engine would crumple more?
The block is cast iron. And that was a 6.4 Hemi, not the 5.7.
@@jamesthomas9153 yes you can see the badge on the side of the hood. There is still a big difference in the weight of the two engines.

I know I am used to shortbeds, but jeez, that is long.
Not a realistic real world test, the tow mirrors weren't flipped out
They were automatic
seeing a truck like this get smashed makes me feel a lot less safe driving 75 mph daily in a 98 xj with no airbags
Solid built the windshield didn't even Crack, Very Impressive Ram 👏
2:26 I love How the tow mirrors came out😀
i would like to see how this truck with the diesel option and regular box would do
It would be the same
@@baller562009 would it though, the engine is much bigger and alot more mass... that has to affect the overall performance in a collision with a non deformable surface
It’s would be the same. Same frame, suspension etc... the engine is heavier but the result wouldn’t change that much
The motor no matter what it is goes back so far and down. If you watch the bottom of the truck from the side even at this speed. You can see the transfer case and transmission is already on a back and down path.
Lol... I can’t believe people still believe this bullshit.
An engine is a LIABILITY in a crash.. NOT an asset.
Engines are only mounted to the frame for support and have to be isolated. Doesn’t matter how many foot pounds of torque you have.. those motor mounts are GONE in a crash.
And unless it’s engineered right.. that nice long heavy cast iron inline six is going straight through the dashboard!
Which is why when Volvo invented crumple zones decades ago, they made it so the engine goes down and underneath the firewall rather than crushing the passenger compartment.
I'd love to get one of these trucks just to use as a parts truck.
They had to reinforce the wall or the truck would have driven straight through it
If you want to know how this size Ram truck does in a real crash there is a video of someone wrecking his new truck at high speed. Over 70 mph and rolling it end over end. Completely destroying it. Yes he walked away.
You wouldn’t by chance be able to find that video would you?
@@crutler can't find it now but look at NTSBgov/ truck crash Texas.
Nobody walks from a car crash at those speeds.
I would really like to see what happens to the person in the middle on the front benchseat option.
Great job Ram!
I really like the color on this truck.
I can understand the front end crumpling to absorb energy since it's something built into all vehicles these days, but I'm just wondering why the seatbelts didn't lock up to keep the dummies off of the dash and steering wheel. I know when I slam on my brakes or hit a speed bump/hump to fast, mine lock up immediately to keep me in my seat. Those seat belts aren't doing any good if they just let you fly forward like that in a frontal crash, let alone a side impact or rollover in my opinion
What do you think the airbags are for? If you think someone, somewhere, who gets paid a lot more money than you do didn't design whatever they designed to make exactly what you saw happen happen, you're a tool.
It's difficult to calibrate before actually testing. I'm sure R&D got wind of this.
I love the badge on the hood flying off around 2:40
The windshield wipers turning into noodles at 4:24
35 mph and did that much damage? I hit another car going 35 in a 2002 Cougar and it barely crumpled the hood and was fixed in a week. Air bags didn't even deploy.
More weight means more kinetic energy.
That's alotta Truck to instantly stop cold. It did very well. The crumple zones did their job absorbing impact energy & the passenger compartment was unaffected.... in the real world... vehicles usually hit other vehicles and the heavier vehicle usually wins by reversing direction of the lighter one... considering the wall doesn't move.. it did excellent.
Had a coworker get T boned in one, then two weeks later rolled the second one lol on service body chassis
Do you need a captains license to drive something that long?
No... not usually. The crew cab long bed has been a thing for years. Short beds becoming popular with functional cabs was distressing to people who actually use their truck beds for its full purpose.
Hard to tow a fifth wheel with a short bed. Need to buy a slider hitch. Hard to put a ton of hay in the short bed, it dimensionally doesn’t fit correctly. Plywood - that’s hard, hopefully you didn’t need the full sheet because you’re not fitting in there either unless you have no desire to close your tailgate.
@ roundsm18
That’s why I drove a minivan for so many years.
It was hilarious in the building yard watching guys with pickup trucks and 6.5 or 5.5 foot boxes try to decide whether to scratch their cab roof or have the tail gate closed with sheets at an angle or open with them flat.. and messing around with ratchet straps, red flags, and prayers in the pouring rain hoping those sheets wouldn’t wind up in someone’s windshield... while I threw mine straight in the back-either seats removed or folded down-closed the lift gate, and drove away.
It’s always fun to mention that they have delivery and trucks with 8 foot boxes for rent for less than $50 a day too to really make their truck seem absolutely useless.
Show the Ram 2500 hitting a prius head on.

Actually the worst vehicle in reliability. Worst than all other vehicles including cars. Very last .

@@freedomliberty7611 How can you quote reliability on a truck that is a 2021?
And any truck with a wheelbase that long is going to bend because of the weight behind the cab.

35 mph and the truck didn’t absorb impact well, at 35 you are looking at serious leg damage
they should do the test with the luxury top of the line one to see what "options" money can buy for a crash.
dont you just love ram look how safe those trucks are
Is it just me or the tires look small
Must be the cheap fleet wheels like the rest of the truck from what i can tell
It's weird that its the tightest seating position. These have a large range to maximize access for all people. Yes, if a 12 year old hits a tree on a farm at this speed - this will be the result
WOW! Nothing left of the front end and that's at 35 mph imagine 70 mph
Yes they crash tested that at 60 miles an hour the whole truck would fold in half
They need to do more real world testing how often does someone crash into a flat wall at 35mph.
If you hit a wall at 70 you are most likely dead no matter how well the vehicle holds up so why bother!
What a waste... starving kids in Africa could've eaten that
"*Together we can stop this*"
If they used my ‘02 S10, all you’d see is rust cloud on impact.
I see the front driver and passenger floorboards are a bit wrinkled up. I was not expecting that. Up until that point, from all the other things I saw, I was expecting the cab and firewall area to have less damage. This truck probably will not do nearly as well in a 40 mph crash test. It looks like the engine was pushed back, not back and down away from the firewall. This truck is now a write off. I don’t think the amount of damage done to this truck is economically viable for a repair/rebuild.
Ya think?
Of course ur not fixing this truck
I don't know of any truck that would survive this, so it being a 'write off' is irrelevant.
If you watch under the truck the transfer case and transmission are on there way down and back. So it will probably do what you are talking about at a higher rate of speed.
I thought the truck did pretty good until I see the floor on the passenger side. WOW
hey ive done this same test in my truck but i used a tree and a 2007 dodge
Can you imagine the prius it just hit
looks pretty solid considering how long the truck is, but is it really only at 35mph? damage seems heavier than that
It's really heavy
That’s a lot of weight to suddenly stop from 35mph.
The full frontal test simulates hitting a vehicle of equal mass going 35mph head on
So most likely in the real world the damage will be a lot less severe because the likelihood of this truck hitting a smaller and lighter vehicle are high
Ya, that's a 7,000 lb vehicle.
I dont think it had the cummins diesel in it.. id like to see that one
so the 2500 they should have tested the diesel bc the torque on it is different and the chassis has to be stronger for the dully so i am surprised they tested the hemi not the diesel
If the new ones are this good my old 1992 that I drive daily must be awesome!
Huh
That’s not how it works... lol.
@@Bartonovich52 wait wut?

the seat head rest goes forward too much it should be a solid seat bc they feel more like metal than cushion!!
yep, i would hit the breaks , but not swerve to avoid wall. this ONLY shows vehicle that is accelerating at 35MPH not braking and not slowing down from faster speeds. angle would be much different also bracing humans . this just as though asleep at wheel
what configuration is that RAM??? things longer than a night in jail.
Bad deformation in the bulkhead and floor pan isn't good.

Wow that truck is huge!
The wheels are just really small 😂🤣
That’s what she said
Are they changing the 2022 to the 1500 body style?
just how many trucks hit a block wall square on?
it is to simulate 2 identical vehicles hitting each other head on. Has NOTHING To do with a block wall......wow, where have you been? This testing has been going on for decades...
It’s called a controlled test, dumbass.
Hey, has anyone seen my 2022 Ram? I just parked it here 10 minutes ago and now it disappeared..
Did you see the Florsheims on that dummy?
I dont understand this test what are the odds your gonna run head on into a solid concrete idk to many trucks or cars gonna pass that test
not necessarily about pass and fail but more about can the occupants survive. Its impossible to mimick every possible front end collision so they make a sort of all in one test. If the occupants survive this then they'll likely be ok in a slower speed crash into something just as hard or a higher speed crash into something softer,
Ram held up very well in this crash test. Looked like the occupants would have lived. My next truck will be a Ram.. Ford has been short changing their customer base. Rusting Frames and poor quality build.
Surprised the drive line didn’t get twisted
That front end is FLAT!

notice all of these type of crash tests are never done with max load in truck nor towing probably change the out come in a really bad but true way trucks are used
Why do they test it at 35mph. not every reck is 35mph.
That's the standard each vehicle is tested at. Then you can have an even comparison between different manufacturers
It’s the standard and the facility their using I’m sure workplace safety becomes compromised if they do that at high rates of speed.
Not every crash is against a concrete wall either .
Is it me or does there seem to be a lot of slack with the seatbelts?
little odd how long it took the airbags to deploy considering the belts didn't automatically tension up.
They started the eject process pretty quick, and were there to catch the dummies. How much faster do they need to be? Seemed to do the job.
