It is a real musical, it's just still in progress of being made and he is releasing it as he goes!
Oooooh that's so exciting!!
Don't worry you'll know why Polyphemus collapsed in the next song ^^ oh and something even more heartbreaking is that Polites was a childhood best friend of Odysseus and the first men to die under his command ;-;
*Best* friend... which is like the only thing we know about Polites from The Odyssey itself.
Spoiler....
Oh 😳😭
@@marcusgrian552 how is what I said a spoiler ? It was shown in Warrior Of The Mind that they were childhood friends.
@gasaiyuno9608 I think they meant the "first men to die under his command" part suggesting maybe there will be more
Over 500 men are still waiting at the beach for them. That wasn’t the full 600 in there. The cave is the first place, after _ten years_ of war, Odysseus lost men. The first person to die? The very first one was his childhood best friend. Polites.
There’s a cut song called ‘Your Light’ between them. It was replaced by ‘Open Arms’, but it’s still a good song. It’s still a demo, so it doesn’t have Polites’ final voice actor, but here’s the link to an animatic for the song. (Preface- there’s no romance. The song is a childhood friend offering help). ua-cam.com/video/Vv0o01Z_lOQ/v-deo.htmlsi=8xB2XnW27fpOnHQe
Oh okay!! Thank you!! ❤
I would honestly love more of this each week!
I'll try and keep them regularly coming out ❤
I appreciate your emotional response that you are willing to share with us
❤
So to answer a few questions:
1) it is a real musical being produced, Jorge is still in the process of finishing the concept albums, only 2 of which are yet to be released
2) the songs are released together in sagas and usually it's a few months in between each release (except for the long wait between the cyclops saga and the ocean saga).
The musical is divided into 2 parts/acts.
Act 1:
The Troy saga
The cyclops saga
The ocean saga
The Circe saga
The underworld saga
Act 2:
The thunder saga
The wisdom saga
The vengeance saga
The Ithaca saga
Also quite a few songs lead into eachother or the story continues into the next song so it's a good idea to group those ones together
Examples include Polyphemus;survive
remember them;my goodbye
Storm;Luck runs out
keep your friends close; ruthlessness
Puppeteer;wouldn't you like
Done for;there are other ways
Etc
You missed the storm...
@@alexeysimushov4971 oops
Oh thank you so much for explaining all of this ❤
You can almost say his light went dark (polities was his light - his best friend)
There were only like 20 people in that cave, the rest were at the beach but polities being the first of his men dying in 10 years (he went into the trouble war with 600 men and came out with 600 men) is brutal and such good storytelling
So, it's ok that you've already watched the first Polyphemus animatic, it's a great one! I actually really enjoy how they make it funny and lighter at some point! But in your own free time I would recommend watching Mirscy's animatic of Polyphemus and then rewatching Survive by them as well to have more of a sense of continuity.
🤔🤔
Fun fact, going back to open arms, you can hear one of the Lotus Eaters refer to the cave as "Scary Cave". So at least one of them was lucid enough to understand that "yeah, there's food there, but you shouldn't go near it"
Polyphemus is also voiced by Jorge I believe. Ody only brought like 20 men into the cave with him... the rest are down at the shore, likely giving the boats some repairs/guarding them. I'll have some info about Polyphemus after the next song. Oh and the little critters are called Winions... which is also the name for the fan base... and the name of the company Jorge started after the production company he started with (for these first two sagas) proved untrustworthy.
As I understand it in the original poems Polyphemus the cyclops was a runt. He was often bullied, his father gave him the sheep which became his only friends. So from his perspective the situation is much worse than Odysseus realized and trying to buy him off with wine just made him mad enough to ignore the laws of hospitality.
Aaaaaand that's how "This life is amazing" and "Open arms" started becoming the most heart-breaking phrases ever....
Also! Anyone noticed the AoT reference at 11:20?
I've always loved Mircsy's design for Polyphemus. It is so good, so fantastical, unsettling, and horrifying.
I think maybe you kind of forgot it because we had sweet, optimistic Polites for the last few songs... well, that's over. It's so sad that the first man Odysseus loses is his best friend.
How good is Epic .. i love how its released bit by bit and not rushed so it keeps its amazing quality.. i cant wait to see you react to all of it
It really is wonderful!
If you want Polyphemus and Survive to visually flow better, I recommend watching Mircsy’s Polyphemus too. (It also has some of my favorite shots in all of her animatics). Either way, welcome to where things get _real._
The last part of the "SURVIVE" will make way more sense if you can watch the "POLYPHEMUS" animatic done by the same artist beforehand ^^ (And it is closer to canon)
It's absolutely wonderful watching you react with no knowledge of where the story is gonna go! Since I remembered this part of the original story, I already had a general sense of what was coming, so it's always fantastic to see fresh reactions from people who go in blind. I was super excited for these two videos in particular (you must join the pain train, lol), and the growing anxiety and shock are exactly what I was waiting for! In some ways, the sagas just get better as you go, and I'm excited to watch your journey! Definitely looking forward to seeing more Epic reactions soon~ ^_^
It's still being released. Jorge(Jalapeno) notifies his winions when the next saga is about to drop on his tiktok and youtube shorts
Yes we wait a 1-3 months for each saga(album)
Except for that one time we had to wait almost a full year for it because of a certain company
10:50 when polities asked wheres there other food to eat, most of the lotus eaters say "A cave" but theres like ONE, a very subtle ONE who says once his friends finished "scary cave". Also, the creatures are lotus eaters, their minds are consumed with lotus so dont really think straight- probably take into account that the cave was actually THAT deadly. Except for the one who thought to add more detail.😂
(Also epic is released in sagas, right now youre on the 'cyclops saga'. Usually each saga is released months apart however teasers are constantly dropped by the creator. Theres like 7 sagas out, your in the middle of the cyclop saga)
Oh thank you for explaining!!
I just want to give you a comfort blanket and some soothing tea for your Epic reactions. It's based on a Greek epic, and there are several dark moments within Odysseus' adventures. This musical is so well done. But I said it from your first Epic reaction, I have seen through other reactions how emotionally invested you get into the art and I know there will be some beautiful parts you adore, and also some difficult moments like this. Thank you for sharing your honest reaction with us. Please consider holding someone's hand through this craziness!
Always great, please make this series more freaquent if possible because it's almost ending (2 sagas only left)
Thanks for the reaction! I'm glad you're liking it so far, I love this musical!
Throwing my 2 cents again, this musical is divided in sagas and you're now halfway though the second saga, the next two are the last ones of this saga
I really think you should react a whole saga each time, every song in a saga is directly connected, they happen immediately one after another, so it makes more sense
So, reproducing Mr Jalapeño's (jorge the creator) words, epic is decided in 2 acts and multiple sagas with each time we had an relese = 1 full saga out so 4 to 5 songs out at once.
The first release was a pain in the butt for Mr Jeorge because of some internal issues (short said he was not paid or receive the money for its work.) Since them he act independently and now tge releases are more faster and he open his own company so happy ending in the end
Thank you for giving Epic the musical this platform. Epic is a real passion project not only for Jorge but for the artists involved and the fans. Cannot wait for more.
The saga’s were released one at a time, but not one song at a time, it was the whole saga. These songs as well as the next two, ‘remember them’ and ‘my goodbye’ are from the Cyclops Saga and were all released together, but we had to wait a couple months for the next saga to release so that was rough. There are 7 saga’s out now, but there will be 9 in total, so 2 more are on the way.
Also
It gets so much worse :DD
The musical has been released by Saga, so every 3-5 songs, so far youve finished the troy saga, and have just started the cyclopse saga! So no, we went left on a cliff hanger with the ending of polythemus lol
God your reaction to these two songs was soooo perfect!! Its such a shame to end this one with that song, but I understand why. I am so excited with every release.
I love learning about this story again in musical. They taught us this story in school with table reading the original story and watching the movie. It's impressive such an old story is still remembered and taught and more people are discovering it.
I love when you break down what you saw/felt at the end. It's a nice appreciation of the art and music. :)
Ya gotta watch the Mircsy animatic for Polyphemus when you have the time. It's phenomenal and terrifying, as you can probably tell by how the Cyclops is depicted in their Survive animatic you just saw.😂
I would argue that the best way to react to these would be for each saga. So instead of song pairings (which is fine) you can get the whole story of THAT saga. Right now, we're half way through the Cyclops saga, but maybe watch all of the ocean saga at once?
Every conflict has two sides, and each side thinks it's justified in its actions. I liked what you said about how - from Polyphemus' perspective - they were invaders and thieves and how you thought their victory would portray them as savages and - heh - monsters.
Of course, his "you will be the final man to die" response to Ody's peace offering kinda puts me against him, but eh.
Looking forward to you finishing the Cyclops Saga; one of my favorite songs is coming up.
I mean, how would you feel if some random guys showed up in your house to rob you blind, killed your dog and then went “our bad, we didn’t know anyone lived here. We have some dope wine though, if we give you that we’re even and it’s all water under the bridge yeah?” Polyphemus was a runt and all the other cyclopses bullies him. Those sheep were basically his only friends, and they killed the one he loved the most with no remorse.
Odysseus' journey is just beginning, and it's going to be a wild ride. Can't wait for your next reaction!
The story is the odyssey of homer but Jorge twisted a little some parts of it to fit his songs this is why is called epic and not odyseus or homer work. Is a modern adaptation of old Greek mythology
i look forward to seeing more of your reaction to this!! this is my favorite musical right now and i’m always looking forward to more people listening to it!
This is such an interesting animation to choose for this song
yeah thats about the reaction most of us had to the second half Survive too. It's set up musically so freaking well to just absolutely crush that hype you start to feel during the first half and make the end feel even more devastating in comparison.
As for how they came out, thankfully we didn't have to wait between these two songs. They comes out in chunks/albums called sagas. You just started the cyclops saga that spans for four songs, so all of them released together.
As for animatics, like you said you've gotten so many playlist recs already that I feel silly for mentioning another, but I do have one on my channel (its the only thing there) that has what I believe for the most part is the most well known animatics for each song in order. It's not complete yet for the Wisdom Saga, since that one came out so recently, but by the time you get there it should be all set.
with the Cyclops honestly I get it like when I first saw it I was like speechless and like I feel so bad for Odysseus because he literally just saw his friend get smashed into pieces 😭😭😭
thanks for feeding my demon slayer and epic the musical hyper fixation in one day
Oh cool, so it's not just me.
Probably would’ve included Remember Them as well with this video. The three songs go pretty well together.
Its actually quite astonishing and strange you know so little about the Odyssey.
The Illiad and the Odyssey date from 3,000 years ago and alongside the bible are in many ways the oldest and most famous parts of the western canonn of literature.
Even if you never read the Odyssey before, large parts of it have been produced in separate individual stories in cartoons, children's media, live action and plays. This part of the story featuring the Cyclops is particularly famous and if there is any 1 part of the story of the Odyssey you've seen elsewhere it is likely this one.
Im always suprised when people know nothing about it, i studied it in highschool, and even before that i knew about it
I was the same way. I knew a good bit about Greek mythology, the Gods and the different creatures (cyclops, sirens, ext) but didnt know anything about the events of the Odyssey or how any of it actually went down and I refuse to read about anything after the Wisdom saga. Don't wanna be spoiled.
I've never read or studied it or the Illiad in school.
Even though personally I was extremely interested in Greek Mythology, I mostly read about the gods and certain other myths like Orpheus and Eurydice as well as just small parts like the Golden Apple or the Trojan Horse or the fact of Poseidon disliking Odysseus and the vague notion of it being a long journey home.
I personally heard of this part of the story somewhere around (unless I'm misremembering there's actually a Russian fairy tale I read once that plays out similarly, I think it was related to Baba Yaga) but I don't think it's really that surprising someone else wouldn't have, I'm not sure I would've if I didn't have a special interest in Mythology.
Being ancient doesn't mean everyone read them and in fact it just makes them more inaccessible due to being far removed from the culture and time that produced them.
@@TheLadysAtelier I don't have a special interest in mythology and I never read the Odyssey(though we did read the Illiad in High school) , but still encountered the story of the cyclops and numerous other part of the story of the odyssey more than a dozen times from various sources growing up in the US.
Moral ambiguity will be seen again. And I think it's done very well, it comes off as relatable and very human.
IMMEDIATELY CLICKED
Same :)
The Odissey, once you get past the idea that it's a greek epic, it's truly horrifying.
You are right: this is Odysseus journey, but it would be a journey of adversities and horrors.
In the original opera it all starts because of Odysseus hubris, for refusing a sacrifice to the gods at the end of the trojan war (and something else he'll do... soon), and, if you know green gods, they are really heavy handed in keeping mortal in their place.
In the past reactions you mentioned Athena as a "good goddess", and you would be kinda right... but then you remember she turned Medusa into a gorgon and sicked slayers from all over the known world on her and turned Arachne into a spider for being a better tailor and some teenager dumbness.
As my dad likes to say "the cleanest among them has rabies".
A crucial aspect of greek gods is that, at the end of the day, they are immortal humans with immense powers... along with all the flaws typical of humanity.
Zeus cheats on Hera with everything that moves, Hera is vindictive with everyone around her, Aphrodite likes to play lovemaking no matter the actual feelings of the humans involved as if they were toys.
Arguably (no matter how much modern media likes to twist it) Hades was the most "chill" god... and even he kidnapped his wife. He then treated her as an equal and respected her more than anybody else (respect for women in greek times was unheard of), but he still kidnapped her.
Greek gods were petty and cruel, and Odysseus is going to found out how much horrible they can be very soon.
Fun fact: this might be one of the very few myth in which a cyclops is a villain.
Cyclops were allies of the gods during the titanomachy and were well known incredible blacksmiths.
Zeus, for example, cannot generate lightnings out of nothing, it were the cyclopes the ones forging lightning for him.
They were also inspired by elephants!
Let me explain: experts think that when greek sailors came to Sicily they found some fossilized dwarf elephant skulls and, seeing it was similar in shape to a human one but with a large opening in the center (it was actually the base of the trunk) they assumed it belonged to a massive race of humans with a single eye in the middle of their forehead.
I love this guys reactions!! Ive seen his react to other stuff and we are in for a treat!! Im so excited for this to continue!!
It's a real musical that is going to be animated when done if it's posible, that's what Jorge said. There are two sagas left to be released, but it's complete up to the wisdom saga
I’d love to see more! I really enjoyed your reaction. Also any questions you have most likely will be answered in the next song. Also I think only about 7 people actually died in the odyssey (the source the musical is based off of) from the cyclops.
cant wait to watch you react to the rest. holy you reminded me what it was like to watch these songs for the first time. truly gut renching. i think i did the same thing, just stunned silence for a bit. 😭
And plot and the trauma begins.... brace yourself, it gets much worse. Polites dying really is the breaking point that spirals into a giant mess by the end.
Im so glad youre doing the whole musical, I can't wait for the next saga (the ocean saga is one of my favourites for sure).
You should do remember them and my goodbye in one video next time. You'll love athena in it, i have a feeling
Fyi: the musical releases in sagas (about 4 or 5 songs per saga). In total there are 2 acts, 9 sagas and 40 songs. Act 1 is sagas 1-5, and act 2 is 6-9. Sagas 1-7 are out, but 8 and 9 are still unreleased. They're probably coming sometime this year. I hope they're out by the time you catch up so you dont have to deal with the torture of waiting for the next release announcement
We need more epic a week
Fun fact Polyphemus (the cyclops name) means “the very famous one” and you now probably know why he’s famous for.
Is just so funny that you don’t know the Odyssey because is always been said to be the best human story ever made, and there are so many stories have referenced it. There have been also a couple of cartoons for kids about the Odyssey! I remember that I always loved how Odysseus says “my name is nobody” and used it to his advantage !
Like in the many retellings of the Odyssey they change things but keep the main events the same, and the cyclops has always been so interesting for me, but since this retelling is not for kids it actually has more weight on deaths and other things Odysseus suffer I kind of love it more. Still tries to get into account how other myths make the personalities of certain characters and changes somethings to fit it + others changes that make more sense in our society and perception.
I really hope that for the song "my goodbye" I hope you watch Mirtfi version of it. I like wolfy the witch version too but mirtfi version is pretty good too
„Isn’t this odyssey journey didn’t it just end „ well Luke that’s what odysseys is thinking at that time too but wait there is more cuz only 7 died and that’s from his ship and then you will see later how this is going to play a role for the future and why we know the exact number 😁
He's releasing them saga at a time with a few months between each. So he'd release the whole of the Troy sage, then the whole of the Cyclops saga, ext ext
I would recommend watching polyphemus animatic by mirscy
I know you're a ways out yet, but if you're following an older playlist, the thing that may be 'out of date' is an incomplete animatic
It's about 10-15 songs away yet (But I don't know how far ahead you may have filmed before we see it on YT) but there's an animatic for "Done For" by Gigi that was kind of more like a WIP teaser. It just ends half way through the song. It occasionally shows up in older playlists and trips up reactors. So if that video is like less than 2 minutes long, you should look for another one
Otherwise there are several animatics for most of the songs and different people will have different preferences, pros and cons to all of them sort of thing, but you're unlikely to come across a 'bad' one, so it'll be fine
Oh hey I'm so glad you're not doing the exact same animatics a lot of other reactors are! A lot of reactors use the same playlist and don't get me wrong I love those but it's nice to also spotlight some other artists animatics of certain songs ♥
In this case, Mircsy's Polyphemus really should have been included, as it is a terrifying and quite unique adaptation. Ximena's is good, but they have animatics where they can shine further down the line
@@Orion_44 But it was included?
The Survive animatic wasn't Mircsy's, but Polyphemus was.
EDIT: my bad mixed them up because they're the other way round in the title.
Still, Mircsy's Polyphemus design was included was the point.
Rip Polites. He still believed in open arms till the end
I definitely think you should go saga by saga after you finsih the next two songs. Remember Them and My Goodbye go together like these two do, and follow directly from the cyclops's fall. After that you will be into the Ocean Saga, which all go together one after another (4 songs), so I highly recommend doing those together. Circe Saga could be split in two but I'd recommend doing those together too. Then the Underworld Saga is only 3 songs and they each follow one another directly (this is also where you will be hit with all the emotions).
Fun fact: according to a deleted song that would be set later in the musical, the casualty count here was seventy two
Not even close, it was 7 from Ody's ship and 7 from other ships, 14 total
@@Orion_44 I wasn’t talking about the Odyssey. I said “according to a deleted song.” I was referencing Comfort Zone, where Perimedes states “72 of our men are now lost”
You should react to more Eve so far you've only done full reactions to "Kaikai kitan" Jujutsu kaisen opening 1 and "Fight song" Chainsaw man ending 12.
Avant - opening to Phantom parade a JJK mobile game so similar to "Kaikai kitan" op 1 of JJK.
Inochi no tabekata / How to eat life - MV is a prequel to "Fight song"
Bokurano - MHA op 11.
Dramaturgy - one of his older songs and the most played after "Kaikai kitan"
Insomnia - one of his newer songs.
My reaction was very similar 💔 Between the sound design and the animatics, the shock and horror left me speechless for several minutes as I processed what just happened. Rest in peace, dear Polites ❤️🩹
I have shown these to several others, but no one else seems to have a similar reaction, at least so far
The mirroring of both lyrics and melody as Polyphemus and Odysseus converse
The way all the instruments drop out as the cyclops club lands its first blow. The instant flip of a switch from Odysseus being in control of the situation, to being utterly helpless as his friends are crushed one after another. The lone droning cello punctuated only by the thud and crack of the club, and the occasional desperate plea for help.
Thx for the reaction
Don't worry, you've got a lot to cover till you catch up to the recent releases. I think more will come out before you catch up, it might even end then.
Interesting
Who told him these two are together but forgot abut remember them?
please upload the whole sagas at a time I’m having withdrawls 😹😹
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍️
Welcome to the trauma.
Can you react to hitohira no hanabira music video please
Can you react to the music video for “do I wanna know” by arctic monkeys please
and he didnt even react to the AOT reference in the animatic
i proffer the other animatic by mircsy
4:30 actually it's worse they killed the Cyclops as friend the Sheep
