If D'Arby came out in the 2000s, he'd be dominating the music scene.

Even though Prince and Michael Jackson existed, I never could quite explain why I didn't like Bruno Mars beyond "he's mediocre at best" until I heard D'Arby. Suddenly, I could explain it.

Bruno Mars is imitating good performers and doesn't actually bring any real feeling to what he's doing, unlike those legends. He's in videos and on stage doing stuff, but it doesn't feel genuine.
D'Arby was *inspired* by good performers, but also added his own style into the mix and brought feeling(or at least the illusion of it) into the performances. You can see it in the music videos and even more in recordings of his performances.
This dedication didn't diminish when D'Arby became Maitreya. If anything, it seems to have increased.
His voice is like honey coated gravel...I could listen to him sing nonstop forever. Beautiful.

I remember hearing this song on the radio in 1987-88. man i knew there was something different from the artist, each singles were just bliss to hear from. this being my favorite. am glad he didn't play by the corporate rules. but at the same time i hope he's doing well. 27 years later. being a huge fan of his since day 1.

By the time Trent came along, I don't think the world knew what to do with him. We had had Prince, and Michael and Pop was becoming more popular than Soul and with less talented Artists. And we were moving towards a musical period where technological production was favored over real Musicianship and Artistry. This is why I think Trent didn't get his real chance because he is a musical genius. The world just wasn't in a place to accept nother Prince. I love this man! And he's also a Pisces so yeah.
A man got on stage and let himself completely go. Thats lesson number one.
