      I mostly know his Marvel stuff. And I remember a lot of people were upset with the change he made to Wanda's character during Avengers disassembled and House of m. But I didn't have a lot of background understanding of Wanda and her history. I was able to just enjoy the story for what it was. I really liked it. So he is probably referencing negative backlash to changes like that as well and conflating that with the backlash to truly awful stories he's written at dc. But I feel like what he did at DC is different from what he did even to Wanda's history.

Ultimate Spider man (and other work in the Ultimate universe), Daredevil, Alias, New Avengers (up to Siege), Secret War were all comics I really liked and shaped my taste. When they were in negotiations DiDio offered him Justice League, and Bendis said no. He demanded, not only Superman, but Action as well. So Dumb Dan agreed and told Tomasi and Jurgens to take a hike. At the time Tomasi and Jurgens were enjoying one of the best 1-2 punch runs in Superman and Action history. And that's not even considering Super Sons, which by itself, was reaching iconic status. Another demand by that bald weasel was to kill it because it didn't fit into his narrative for Jon.
    As much as Bendis is to blame (and he is), DiDio is the real villain and idiot here. Every time DC was white hot, during his time there, he just had to go and piss on it because the success wasn't being done his way, by "his vision." Which by the way ALWAYS sucked. Honestly I want Bendy to write an Original comic book on his own and see how many people would actually like his work on his own without any popular brand or character behind it. I'm wondering how long it would actually last.

    Bendis’ Dissembled was a trolling laugh fest. In one issue, the Vision drove the Quinjet through Avengers mansion, Scott Lang died, and Hawkeye really believed committing Suicide with a jet pack would have saved the Avengers from an invasion sized Star ship. When Bendis wasn’t busy writing provocative scenes for shock factor, he made almost every character, a douche bag for no reason. Having said that, he leaves super rich because he owes the rights to Miles Morales, Riri Williams, and Naomi.

    One of the things that always frustrates me is when people ask if Bendis has changed. I recommend going back and trying to read through Secret Invasion, Siege or the latter half of his Avengers run. The same problems are there: snail like pacing, endless snarky dialogue, hastily thought out endings, all the characters speaking the same way. I remember when Secret Invasion came out and actual reviewers commented that the plot hadn’t moved in 3 issues.
    I think that what is happening is that time is catching up to Bendis. Yes, the early issues of Ultimate Spider-Man are great, Daredevil is solid if way too talky. But, I think people will eventually equate Brian Bendis as one of artistic dead ends of the industry.😊

    I have observed that there are two ways to write a group book. The first is to have the villain show up and the group gathers to defeat said villain and along the way there is some fun or dramatic comments made between the heroes. This works best for single or two-part stories but not for a year-long or multi-year run of one story. The second is to take a selection of members, 2-5, and run a simple sub-plot on each of those characters that might tie into the main story but can also be used as stand-alone stories involving a group member. Then when done with that main story, switch those sub-plots to the next 2-5 characters and repeat the formula. This can be done for small or long stories. Mr. Bendis violated both of these writing styles. As a fan of the LSH for 40 years, I declare him its worst writer. I further declare that his LSH is not canon and can safely be ignored.

    • @edwardsanko6396
      @edwardsanko6396 2 роки тому

      @@r0w5tortion84 Off the top of my head the last set I enjoyed was the 6-part Action Comics story reuniting the LSH & Superman. It was Geoff Johns or Mark Waid. This led into a new series that had Mon-El become a Green Lantern. The last great LSH story was the Legion 3 Crisis story featuring the LSH of three universes against a ton of villains and the rebirth of Impulse and Connor Kent. My biggest annoyance is that several writers keep changing the mythos of Superman's involvement in the LSH. At the end of Doomsday Clock, they had been brought them back and Superman knew them. Then Bendis Superman run had begun and negated that entire plot and Superman didn't know them, but he allowed them to take his son into the future. I did not care for the Mark Waid Earth-Prime version of the LSH.

Especially when you factor in how good Rebirth was and started off. I’m not sure what they were thinking when they decided to go with Bendis and King’s vision of DC instead of Geoff Johns’ when they sabotaged Doomsday Clock. People were loving the overall Rebirth story and it started off so damn good. They haven’t been able to recover. They need someone to take over who has balls and isn’t afraid to make things clear to the writers and tell them no when they want to do things like age up Jon or turn Wally into a murderer. The things happening now is obviously some stupid initiative to be diverse and inclusive. But it started with Bendis.

    Now I have not read Naomi but if she's more powerful than Superman and has no weakness at all then thats a cardinal sin. The more powerful you make a character the more weakness' they gotta have. Supes got cryptonite and magic to eff up his day. Venom have sound and fire (or used to have at least) not mess him up. There's gotta be something there to make good stories.
    A comicbook writer needs take sabbatical leaves every so often. There's not many writers that can sit 30 years in a row and come up with bangers. Well, Stephen King can but he has the privilige of being able to write any damn thing his wants ya know. Superhero comics aren't that flexible. I dunno where I'm going with this thought other than that Bendis should have taken a break many years ago.

    Hey! :) I had to look at your "Bendis Killed Superman Family" video...and I got depressed. I missed out on the run of Superman's Family (among other things) because I dipped out of comics regularly for almost twenty years. If you've done the same, then you know why: I got tired of the self indulgent bullshit I saw even then.
    And brother, even in his glory days, Bendis could get self indulgent. It's clear in retrospect he's always had a massive ego and he chose comics to be his 'platform'. He did do great work once, like Secret War, and I mean the one where Nick Fury recruited a bunch of heroes to kill a head of state. I also liked his initial issues of Alias, even though the idea of his retcon-introduction-reintroduction (it was basically all three) to Jessica Jones was a sign of things to come. What I remember best about Jessica was there was way too damn much talking. Again, a warning sign.
    I'm proud to say I totally missed the boat when it comes to Ironheart, but I've heard enough about his diversity purse puppy creation Riri Williams to never EVER read any of her adventures. I mentioned in one of my comments under your "Bendis Killed Superman Family" that I'm sure he's grown to hate heroes and the idea of the American family just like any good postmodern does. How else do you explain Ironheart, who by even objective standards comes off as a super *villain?* For godsakes, she overthrew a country and didn't even realize what she did! (Or she did her level best to be in denial of it!)
    The most self indulgent things a writer can do is forsake both lore and being true to a character as their readers know them. We've seen it before with arbitrary change-ups involving Spider-Man and Mary Jane (and dammit, as far as I'm concerned, they're still married!), Captain America, Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, Batman AND Robin...for godsakes, look at the X-Men and their villains since Hickman came along. I know they're only the alien xeroxes of the real heroes and villains, but that gave the morons at Marvel license to write them any way they want, and to hell with history! (Just to remind everyone: Clone Logan, Clone Jean and Clone Scott going poly!) Let's not forget that the Clone X-Men's idea of peace isn't coexistence with normal humans, *it's segregating themselves on a protocommunist island!* If I hadn't stopped reading comics regularly long ago, I'd have grown to hate them now. We've seen this same kind of ego from the Disney Wars films, Doctor Who, Kurtzman Trek, Batwoman, and on and on and on. Those with a very clear political view of the world have been doing their damndest to 'reset' them.
    The problem with American comics began because of the egocentric, partisan and childish 'creators' like Bendis. The problem will end the moment they're all kicked out of the industry on their asses. I'm still hopeful that will happen if the powers that be don't want to lose that industry and artform. If we want to retcon this hellish mess Bendis made of Superman and his amazing family, then a full Crisis type reset is in order...hey, we had Rebirth, maybe creators who care really can accomplish that!

    Back then the SuperSons was one of the most popular things they had....they had the movie in Process, it only came out cause those things take time....why the hell would they let him age John up?
