I know this video is a few years old but I just got into Strat Hockey after playing Strat BB for years and needed a tutorial and by far this is the best produced and informative intro to the game at the basic level which I'm at thanks for the instructional video hoping you would post more in the future for the newbies Thanks

Great video, but there's a glitch in the audio. A couple of times it sounded like you said Bobby Orr was the greatest player ever. I'm sure the audio was simply garbled and you actually said Wayne Gretzky. LOL. Just kidding. Thanks for an excellent video.

Hmm. I'm trying to figure out which Hockey board game to buy. I've been looking at Hockey Blast and not sure if I should get that or something else. One thing that seems odd is so few line changes in Strat-O-Matic Hockey. If there's 30 cards in the action deck, 20 mins in a period, so each card represents like 40 seconds right? So shouldn't you have a line change like every other card drawn to make it realistic? Just seems odd to have so few line changes per period.
I've started playing Strat in the last week and I love it. The flow is great and I am going to give the advanced rules a try. I do have one question. Is it my imagination that there seem to be an inordinate amount of shots on goal? It seems as though every shot is either a shot on goal or a goal as opposed to some shots that don't require a save by the goalie.
hey if the goalie card says Save, Breakaway 1-7, or Faceoff, Penalty 1-9, that means I roll again, but which team gets the breakaway or penalty, the goalie's team or the shooting team?

You can't go wrong with the All time greats set. I would also suggest the Hockey Heroes set as well. All of the hall of fame inducties from 2005 till 2018 are included in the Heroes set. It includes the best goaltenders of all time. Who is your favourite goal keeper?
Dave, this is not Strat hockey related but seeing as you are in Canada I thought I would get your opinion. What would be a good team Nick name for a Nova Scotia team? I am naming one of my History Maker Baseball teams Nova Scotia so there is Canadian representation but having trouble with a clever team name. Thanks
The Schooners would be the perfect name. The schooner "Bluenose" was an international racing ship built in Nova Scotia in 1921. It raced undefeated for 17 years and is commemorated on our dime.
No sorry it does not but their easily found at any hobby shop. Strat baseball does come with one. You can order the baseball dice set extra for $1.99 or just the d20 for $.99. They can be found in the baseball board game parts section.
Depends on the card set you buy. If you don't purchase the extra players with your season set or print extra players from the six team reprint .doc file you won't have enough cards to make a complete four forward and three defence lines. If you play historical season teams from the 40's to the early 70's teams only iced 3 lines with 5 defencemen.

You would ignore the first number and use the number 3 inside the parentheses when the player is on the short handed team during a penalty.

Stupid question. What type of paper do you use when you print out the player cards?
I use 110lb (199g/m2) Card stock that I purchase at Staples. 250 sheets cost me $20 CAD.
