Thanks for the video. Hauling gear onsite is always a fun challenge. I've been looking at the stand manager and the Westcott roller to help condense my stands and modifiers. Had a shoot last night for composite banners and took two X-Drop Pros to make a 16 foot backdrop and a 5 light setup. Fun times 🤣
I've photographed sports for 40 years so have used it all. Now I just walk into a gym with a 1 or 2 Profoto B10 Travel Kit Back Pack. The bag has enough room in it for a small mirrorless camera, plus extra batteries and a trigger. I also carry 2 or 4 8ft Kupo Click Stands, umbrellas and a carbon fiber tripod in a Domke Light stand bag that I can also sling over a shoulder and away I go . You will understand as you get older. But yesterday I pulled out my 35 year old Speedotron 2405 and two heads to use in a gym. Thanks for the video...
For the stuff I do I generally need most of that equipment for teams honestly. If I were just shooting one person I could probably get away with that small amount of gear, but I’d also rather have everything I need just in case. I feel like every time I try to travel light I end up needing something I don’t have haha.
Honestly? I’ll ask them if they mind taking them off and if not, I take one with and one without and photoshop them haha. That’s one thing I’ve not figured out with them. However, the higher you put them the less glare there is. Also make sure the kids chins are level or slightly down.
Hey, finally your video showed up on my feed again! I don’t know why UA-cam can’t figure out when you drop a video I’m going to watch it. At least I’ve got about 4 new ones to watch now.
Awesome! Yeah that is weird but I’m glad you saw them. I had taken a break for a few months but I plan on being a lot more consistent now! Hopefully at least one new video every week.
how do you travel/store your 45 reflectors? Any bag or case you recommend? Carry them loose? These suckers are big lol I just don't want them to bend when in travel. Don't mind if they get beat up in action lol Would have liked to seen a shot of how it all stores away in your case. Maybe a UA-cam Short vid of it? Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for a very informative video. I have talked to a couple of photographers that claims that you absolutely need a 600w light for outdoor. But you say you have managed with 400...? The difference in price is significant, so it would be great if it did work.
I use to have 2 Broncolor Siros 800 Ls, but once I got my FJ400s I got rid of them. Take a look at my work. Everything from the last 4 year is all done with a 400 so you tell me if they work 😂. Thanks for watching and commenting I really appreciate the support!
@@tollarplennie it depends on how far from the subject the light is. I use 400 watts a lot for my outdoor individual portraits. I’m not sure if 400 is enough to shoot a large team is mid day sun.
Thanks for sharing. Super helpful. I have one question regarding FJ400. Do you ever find yourself shooting with TTL or are you always on manual? Thanks!
Question on the 400s. The bodies are strikingly similar to the original Godox AD600, except obviously they have been upgraded for flash tubes, software, interface etc. From what I’ve seen they have about identical output. Light output is tricky but it would be interesting to see if the 400 is really a 600 being “understated”. Do you find the 200 is really just a stop off? If you had an AD200 and 600 I would be curious how they compare. I think a lot of people see the 600 of Godox and think it’s more powerful but it seems like they might not be in reality.
Great questions/observations! I’ve actually got a video coming out next week competing the FJ200 and FJ400’s output so check back Wednesday around lunch (or hit the bell to get notified with it posts haha). I think every company measures their strobe output a little different. I’ve never had or tested a Godox light, but that would be a good thing to try. It very well may be that their 600 is the same or close to the FJ400 output.
I have been doing action sports shots 8 years now. I want to get into sports portraits outside and inside the gym. I will be buying 2 FJ 400 so what reflectors should I start with?

Matt, love all the content lately! Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much. I definitely plan on it!
Great vid, Matt! Love your content! Thanks for all the great info!
Thank you! Absolutely I love doing it! Thanks for watching.
Incredibly informative video, Mr. Hernandez. Thank you! 🙏🏾
Glad it was helpful!

Matt when you use your 7 foot umbrellas for team photos how do you place them to avoid glare in glasses? Thank you.

Man you should see mine up close…they are so beat up haha. I wish I knew of a solution for that!
Boss mode!!! Thanks for sharing
You bet brother!
Hey Matt, thanks for sharing your lighting gear. Could you have the same effect with the FJ200s + the 45 deflector to achieve dramatic sports photos?
Ahhhhh GREAT question. Check back next Wednesday because that just so happens to be what my next video will be about!
Hi Matt, thanks for the post, I have a question on the link for the 45 Degree deep focus reflector? how does the reflector compare to the wescott?
It IS the westcott…I’m confused can you clarify what you’re asking?

Good deal I’m glad. You’re very welcome! Nope, I want to be in control at all times. I don’t know that I’ve ever even used TTL to test haha.

Great video Matt! How do you survive with only 6 FJ400's?? 🤣
Thanks brother! Haha I know. I’m going to get more soon.
45 degree reflector!!!
That’s right! 🤣
Thank you for this video. If you were just starting out, what lights would you buy? I'll be shooting in basketball gyms only.
FJ400s! For the price you won’t beat them and they do everything you could want.
@@MattHernandez Thank you so much!
Thanks for the info! Are you driving a pickup or full-size SUV? Just curious, since those bags are BIG!
You’re very welcome! I’ve got a 2020 4Runner.

Awesome! I’d get the Manny Ortiz beauty dish and a couple deep focus reflectors!
Thanks for the video Matt!!! I know the Octa L is now with the switch. Do you still have the original Octa-L?
Thank you! Glad you liked it. I do have the octa L switch yes.
You don’t use 31x47 type softboxes for group photos?
Nope! The umbrellas work great and they are much cheaper. I do have those soft boxes but use umbrellas
@@MattHernandez I understand, you make good points. I love your videos my friend. 👍
Great Video!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
