    I've been listening to the Strawbs for almost 40 years, and they never get old. They're greatly underrated. Many of their tracks are as good as anything that Genesis or YES did. That entire Hero and Heroine album is excellent as are most of their albums.

    STRAWBS: Another giant band among many others unjustly neglected, forgotten. Rick Wakeman participated in the album "From The Witchwood" (1971). Adam and Oliver Wakeman also joined the group. Their album "Burning For You" (1977) is another masterpiece. Thanks.

    I've been hoping for this exact selection for long time, as it is the one song I never fail to play at the beginning of autumn, when "I sense Autumn coming on..." I hope y'all love as much as I do. Lemme go see...Okay! Well, to the Indonesians, let me just say Terima kasih, and Selamat tinggal! How groovy to have been picked up overseas, and in such a beautiful spot. Maybe they will pay to fly you out there so you can review some of their stars' music.
    This was one of my favorite albums which I had since it came out, having know of Wakeman's involvement, being a Yeshead, and assuming therefore quality. And there it is! From that album, each of their themes is cool, and a song called "Round and Round" is a real earworm. So excited to share this with y'all. They are a lot like Barclay James Harvest, the poor man's Moody Blues, with more profound gems to mine. You covered the beautiful "Mockingbird" already. "Hymn" is other-worldly. My experience of it was that it was concurrent with Spirit's "12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus", as well as Selling England and Tales from Topo and Gryphon.

    • @MisterWondrous
      @MisterWondrous Рік тому +1

      @@joelliebler5690 As a Yeshead I of course knew this, and was referring to his previous involvement with the band. Don't think I've heard any Wakeman with Strawbs or Strawberry Hill Boys, their former name. I did gladly get to see them, but it was all or mostly acoustic. Still epic.

    • @MisterWondrous
      @MisterWondrous Рік тому +1

      @@joelliebler5690 Perhaps, but they played Radio City Music Hall 2 nights before 9/11 opened the Gates of Delirium, and that concert was a profound spiritual experience that emboldened us for the hell to come just hours away. They also played their long hits, and with orchestra. It was my 4th or 5th Yes concert, but easily the best. They didn't bother with their later pop tunes so much, thankfully. There is a great video of that tour, but when they were in Amsterdam, I think. Basically the same though, and exuberant.

    Firstly, nice shirt Alexia! One of my Christmas presents was a 'Ew, David' coffee mug! Love that show!
    Thanks to B Mac for transporting me back to the first half of the 70's. I discovered the Strawbs in 1970, and had already missed some serious music as the great Sandy Denny had been with them for a while. They were very acoustic/folky in those early days, but then they gave a regular gig to some whippersnapper called Rick Wakeman, and they became more electric. Rick's keys gave more texture to their music and 'Dragonfly' and a great live album 'Just a Collection of Antiques and Curios' in 1970 brought more rock fans on board. Then Rick joined Yes, replaced by Blue Weaver (who later played keys for the Bee Gees on Saturday Night Fever) and the marvellous 'Grave New World' was released. I played that album to death, check out 'Queen Of Dreams', a real psychedelic/prog classic, and then Tony Hooper (acoustic guitar/vocals) was replaced by Dave Lambert on electric guitar and they were now very much rock with proggy bits. They recorded 'Bursting at the Seams' which included the infamous 'Part of the Union' single (a throwaway song not at all representative of the band's sound that made the top of the singles charts) but it was a great album despite that song. Then all hell broke loose and Richard Hudson and John Ford (drums and bass respectively) who had written that awful song left to do their own thing and was soon followed by Blue Weaver. Throughout the personnel carnage stood Dave Cousins, who had always steered the band with a very firm hand, and along with Lambert he brought in John Hawken on keys and Chas Cronk on bass, and that's the line up you are hearing here. All these people changes make Yes look like a country club, but the albums were all excellent. Brilliant live too, I saw them tour this album in London and it was a great gig. Then I emigrated to South Africa and didn't hear much more Strawbs. Any recommendations on albums would be much appreciated. Thanks NandL with M xx

    Hi Guys, wow this take me back. I remember hearing this album from a friend in 1977, and was in West Yorkshire at the time visiting. I return to Blackpool, and at the first opportunity, go to a record store to buy this album "Hero and Herione". They didn't have it, so tried another. They didn't have it. Tried to order it. Couldn't get it. It was released in 1974 yet in '77 I simply could not get a copy. No idea why....so...Went back to my friend in Yorkshire, and ordered it from the same record store he goes to. I got it a week later. Out of curiosity, over the years, I look to see if this album is in the record rack displays. To this day after decades, it has never been seen in a record store in Blackpool....either on vinyl or cd. It's a wonderful album, but why oh why has it been so hard to find ? I have no answer. This reaction really has made me smile from ear to ear....Spread the word !!! I hope people hear this, and get it, a lot easier than I did.....[ ok about to play the video ... well it is me. Side 1 of the A & M release of Her & Heroine is exactly like they show it

      Did you know H & H was about David Cousins Heroine addiction?
      Although I’ve had this album since it was released in ‘74 I never knew this until recently.

      @@bmac1205 Actually I knew Strawbs in the 70s .... and bought the CD a few years ago ... I always liked Hero & Heroine , but not the "Part of the Union -style ... and they somehow disappeared from "my radar" and the radio stations ...

      @@rudolfbecker4313 Hi Rudi, I agree about "Part of the Union" which was a hit here in England, putting them on Top of the Pops, and in the singles charts. It was political so sort of fit with the times with the lyrics rather than the music. "Lay Down" for me was a better hit single. I never bought any albums till 1977 as I only knew those 2 songs from the charts. Never thought they were a Prog band, then heard "Hero and Heroine". You should hear maybe " Bursting at the Seams". I also really like, but it does have those 2 hit singles. Lol ...Just skip track 1 and you'll be fine Rudi...Tracks like "Flying" and "Tears and Pavan" are great tracks...The latter with lots of echo on the vocals with great effect. Jim
