Cause there are a lot of cards that can be chained to caius and essentially make you go minus, like BTH, pheonix wing wind blast, MST etc. Same as why you always target a monster with DAD prio. Targeting backrow with Caius is rarely really a valid play, only really in late game if youve already seen a fair share of cards like BTH, but even then its risky.
