That's how PC stuff is in general. I've watched hours and hours of PC videos and still don't really understand most of it because they always assume you have a baseline understanding, and videos on the actual basics are surprisingly rare.

Mike, I use the Sahara RGB's and want to plug them into the Asus Z490-H gaming board, the Sahara pamphlet shows the Asus method but I assume that I only connect one of those cables to the board. As such, I have connected the 3 pin to what I believe is the correct socket on the board which Asus are calling "Aura addressable Gen2 header" The sata from the control box is connected to the PSU. Is this correct or should I use the 4 pin connector. if so does the 4 pin connect to the RGB header socket or one of the fan/pump headers ?? HELP

Hey Mike, loved the video! I learned a lot, subbed and liked!!
I had a couple questions, if you don't mind.
So I have an Asus X570 Prime Pro, it came with a 4-pin to 3-pin adapter and has rgb headers for both. I have a new RGB strip (idk if what brand it is but it's 4-pin), and I'm wondering:
    1. Is it safe to use on my motheroard?
    2. Does it make any difference which header I use, with or without the adapter?
I also have a Phanteks case with RGB fans and it has a 4-pin connector attached that says "only use Phanteks RGB strips" on it.
    3. Should I just plug my LED strip into that instead?
I really appreciate you and look forward to checking out the rest of your channel, thank you so much!!!

you won't get any, 5v addressable is not compatible with 12v rgb in any real terms. There is an adaptor on the market that claims to convert 12v to addressable but the software won't control it as it can only do all the colours at the same time unlike addressable that can change individual leds

Hi Mike. I bough a "Nox Infinity Alpha" case. It has a "barebone" controller, in the back-side of the case, which controls one argb strip on the front panel and one 120mm argb fan in the rear panel. You can connect more fans and leds, and it has 3 pin connectors for leds, so I'm lead to think that it is supporting "3 pin - 5V" argb strips but... anything will do? Is there a method to tell if a strip is compatible with it?

    • @mikesunboxing

the 3pin standard is pretty straight forward so as long as it the the four pin style connector with only three pins with the extra pin removed then you should be fine

So the RGB fans I want to buy say 5V RGB and show a 3 pin connector, does that mean they will work if I connect them to the addressable LED connector? I also bought a Cooler Master ARGB 3-Pack of fans to go with the case, installed on the front grill. The 3-pack fa pins are 4-pin. Does the Asus TUF B450-PRO GAMING go with the Sharkoon TG4?
I just saw a video about aRGB then suddenly he talked about different pins and headers. From what I understand is that the normal RGB Leds use a 12V header and the aRGB apparently a 5V header. Now is my question: does this mean that the Asus TUF B450-PRO GAMING motherboard isn't compatible with the Sharkoon TG4 case?

Hello i have a little question, i have a B450M Bazooka with an XPG Invader Chassis (Great review by the way) and that chassis have RGB connectors of 3 pins (In fact is 4 but one is fill with plastic or rubber). So my question is possible to connect this RGB to the motherboard (jus make a hole in the rubber to not bend the pin) or is better to buy and use a splitter of 4 pins or is something else i can do?.
Update: I resolve the problem, i connect the SATA RBG to the Power and connect the 3 female pin to one of the 3 male cables with 3 pins that accompany the SATA and come from the same frontal top panel. Well at last i learn something new after 1 year that i build my new PC. I have to say i not big fan of the RGB but i like a nice solid blue color in my PC.

I'm here as I just did a mid-tower build after a decade and took advantage of deals where some Nfortec RGB was included in p/s and cooler. The AIO instructions didn't explain how RGB worked but the pump lit white (which turns out to be "the LED indicator that the pump is safely operating" which had me looking for a tiny light lolol), the fan spins but is not lit at all and the power supply lights having a control button.
Anyway I was just curious what I missed as the PWM fan doesn't have any obvious lighting visible and wondered if I should connect the radiator fan to the mobo.
Now I can see the company have their own 6 pin plug on the fan intended for a controller (the RGB mode alternative to the standard PWM), where the GB Aorus mobo uses the 4 pin system on many LED headers. There's nothing to explain what you need to make it work nor the existence of various control methods. I'm sure the absence of parts if far more confusing than when you have them.
Thanks for giving enough background info to make sense of this obfuscated mess :)

I was going to jump blindly into it but the id definitely start pulling my hair out, and i tried search engine, but my key words havent flipped a single switch as far as information online. Im referring to using a DMM on the pinouts. As far as the fan goes, well, it surely goes. My issue is particularly the rgb. Already ive owned 2 sets of addressable fans, one of which is an aio cooler (the cpu cooler works fine on armory crate). ONE set(base fans) connected to a hub, which has never worked since ive changed my mobo, which may be a compatibility issue, or just a faulty mobo. The radiator fans for my cooler are plugged directly into the mobo with the 3 pin to 3pin addressable so its separate from the 12v fan plugs, which are also connected to a fan header on the board. The Rgb for the cooler doesnt work at all, even with the base fan hub rgb plug disconnected. It led me to my initial question. Also, my mobo and aio are both assus, oops i mean asus=)
But i know it is just as likely there may be a compatibility issue. Passionately curious to know if addressable ports can diagnosed as such for any future troubleshooting nightmares. Thanks again

some boards have software that allows you to change the RGB pin outs and it will ask what colour you see at a certain point to calibrate the leds

Hey mike, great video but I’m still slightly confused. I bought a b450 tomahawk Max which has 2, 4 pin rgb headers but my case has 5 fans, all 3 pin, argb. What should I do? Thanks

Hi.. Mike, I already fuq'd up.. I plugged my rgb fans on a fan header 12v and the controller is now Fuq'D. So what I would like to know is, since they go thru the controller( HUB) are the fans fried also or not?

Mike, I really appreciate your videos and style. I've been watching all of your videos on motherboard unboxing as I'm looking to build a Ryzen system and totally overwhelmed with the choices. To the point of RGB, it seems from your videos that you enjoy it, so maybe you can do some more vids on the topic like this.
If you don't mind me asking a few questions? I'm looking to buy some rgb fans and probably a case and I'm looking at both the atx mobos - the Steel and pro4 models.
My question is the following. I'd like to learn how to control rgb from the mobo and use all of the rgb and fan headers from the mobo instead of buying a case with molex and external controllers for rgb control. Do you have any recommendations and advice for buying, say 5 cheap rgb fans with 4/3/5 mobo pins so everything can be connected to mobo and controlled with software instead of externally or via the case? I feel lost and some of these fans at $15-20 seem too expensive. Surely I could buy a 5 pack or something with mobo connections for much less, no? Thanks in advance and excuse my ignorance on the subject.

easy one! get the uphere 6 pack fan set with the hub included. it just works great from the motherboard and i really like them. they are in my pc behind me in current videos if you want a peek

Yes the 5v 3 pin is a standard so brands will generally all work together for the most part

So I’ve built my pc and plenty of friends PC’s but never really got into rgb, one of my friends though, wants rgb case fans, and I’m not sure what the proper type of fan to look for with the motherboard, the motherboard claims it has “2x RGB Headers” on it so I’m not sure if I’d be able to use rgb or argb on it as I don’t know what they mean by “2x RGB Headers” any idea what that means?

    • @mikesunboxing

not sure really it depends on the board in question, but feel free to drop in our discord chat to discuss further

Please help really appreciated it. Also, I live in the UK so if you guys send me a link on amazon on which splitter to buy it would really mean a lot. Please help. Thank you in advance.
