      We're fortunate enough to have both Dutch Wonderland and Sesame Place close to us here in PA (both of which I feel like will be similar in the target demographic for this place). Unfortunately, I think most of my kids will be out of the target audience once this opens, so it will probably be a no (though if I had younger kids, I would certainly take them... especially if they built one in the Mid-Atlantic area.

    Very interesting that there’ll be no dark rides here, I wonder if that will help to keep costs and upkeep low since this is such a new concept for them. I would definitely expect lots of themed flat rides and very themed play areas everywhere, plus hopefully some good character meet and greets.

    I think this is a very underrated move by Universal Studios. Texas has a huge population, and now families in the Midwest have a significantly closer location main stream theme park to take their kids too. They will capitalize on that and slowly build the dark rides/coasters/thrill rides as popularity in this park grows, thus forcing the Disney parks to maybe do a bit more to maintain crowd interest at their Cali and Florida parks. I think the new Princess and the Frog ride at Disneyland will draw them back some interest, but Universal is absolutely making some major moves on Disney with this park, Epic Universe and the Vegas Halloween Horror Nights attraction

      It doesn’t need to have any and based on this information doesn’t plan to. Teens and adults are not the target audience and doesn’t have to be for profitability. In fact it actually opens up a whole list of other issues that Frisco probably doesn’t want to deal with like increased crime. The park isn’t being built to cater to adults and teens. Younger demographics make up a huge bulk of attendance in major theme parks. They’re building this based on tried and true marketing and profitability statistics. Kids are where the money is at, because build it and their parents will take them.

    Very unique idea for as big a company as Universal, very unexpected! When I was a kid and went to Universal Studios for the first time, I didn’t get a lot out of it as a child who was super scared of coasters. As an adult now I don’t think I would make any special trips to go to this new park, but I think the idea of something catering to small children who aren’t toddlers is really nice. As a dinosaur loving kid who grew into a dinosaur loving adult I hope the Camp Cretaceous part is true, I would have loved something like that as a kid especially considering the JP section of Universal Studios might be a little intense for kids that age in the ride department.

  • @NinthShinigami

    I love the idea of this park. It allows Universal to expand their audience and age demographic, even if by a little bit. I think this park can be very solid, especially since it sounds theming is going to have to carry. Tho I definitely think the park could’ve used at least one to three dark rides.
    I’m either way looking forward to the park even if I’m no where near the target audience (I’m 17). Not everything needs to be thrilling and exciting even if that has been Universal’s thing for a while (I think Mario Kart and Secret Life of Pets are other great examples of this). So I’m glad to see them expanding their horizons.

      Yeah I am surprised at no dark rides. What's up with all those big buildings then? Can't all be dining and shows. I think there will be some changes and a dark ride makes it in. I will be shocked it that sticks.

    • @percussionnow5982
      @percussionnow5982 Рік тому +1

      The rides are all designed for 4-10 yo kids so why would they spend 100 million on rides for that? That is how much dark rides cost these days. The whole idea of this park is to take kids away from the real parks. A genius idea IMO. Likely the tickets will be cheap, 97 acres is small.

    • @LChatmanFL
      @LChatmanFL Рік тому +3

      @PercussionNow Dark rides do not need to be super elaborate like Spider Man or Forbidden Journey. They can be simple boat rides or track rides through set pieces with or without sophisticated animatronics. For example, over in the rumored Vamp Jurassic area... they build a dark ride that puts a family in Jeep and takes them through a prehistoric land with a little misadventure. You can build something like and make it expensive, but you can also make it simple for less.

    • @percussionnow5982
      @percussionnow5982 Рік тому +2

      @@LChatmanFL I agree that would be fun, but cheap. Most likely not. There are a litany of youtube videos making fun of some of the international resorts like signapore for how cheap their dark rides are and they were all in the 20 million range, I don’t think a tiny 90acre park for kids wants to commit 20 million per ride when park tickets will barely cost anything. Already just the plants and installations in camp jurassic in Orlando cost about 40 million in todays dollars and costs, it was 15 million back in the day. Another reference is Volcano bay which has no dark rides and is all slides cost around 600 million back in the day which is around 800million today with material costs. Comcasts budget is 1.2 billion a year for Las Vegas, Frisco, Epic Universe, Orlando, Hollywood. Do with that what you will.

    • @LChatmanFL
      @LChatmanFL Рік тому +1

      @PercussionNow Well keep in mind the ride only has to appeal to grade schoolers. I have been to Legoland FL a number of times with my son, and they do a great job with their dark rides. I think FL is sitting on 150 acres. But anyway, if Comcast were to greenligt a dark ride for 20 mil I am sure it will be just fine. The cynics are the only ones that will complain, but they are not the target audience.

    It seems that there are many commenters whose biggest complaint is that they aren't in the target demographic. Is this place for me? No. Do I think it will be good for Universal? Yes! Get those kids started young! Can you imagine them showing adds for this place before Dreamwork's movies? Little kids will go crazy! And you get them having good experiences with Universal in the 3-9 year age range and when they age out of here, Universal Orlando and Hollywood will be the logical next step (and it allows the "main" parks to continue to target the older demographic. And who knows, if this place is successful enough in Texas, maybe it encourages Universal to build a second park in he area catered towards an older audience.

  • @danasandoval624
    @danasandoval624 Рік тому +18

    Wish Universal would theme the smaller parks to all age groups also. They wouldn’t need to go all out like the bigger parks but make sure there are things for every age group. The smaller parks are more for closer families, but I think they should work towards an older audience too. The age group is very young and could be boring for kids a bit older. The other parks are destinations for all from around the world, including every age. Not sure how well this will work for such a young crowd basically.

I’m trying to picture disney (kiddie rides only) without the dark rides and I’m left with dumbo, tea cups, and barnstormer .. not exactly something I’d spend a ton of money on or travel for. That’s the great thing about Disney is kids can ride but adults have fun too and the dark rides are that perfect mix. Universal Kids Frisco is basically taking Kids Zone and making it a standalone regional park.
    Epic Universe is a modular theme park. The designs of each of those lands could be taken whole-cloth and built as a stand alone regional theme park. The isle of Berk in epic universe seems to have been designed with the same constraints as universal kids: no dark rides, no tall roller coasters, not for adults.
    Universal Hunts Vegas shows the universal also wants to do regional resorts geared towards adults. I’m expecting the Vegas hunt to reuse props from HHN so that it can be an inexpensive way to test the market.
    I think the plan is if Universal Kids Frisco and Universal Haunts Vegas is successful, we might see stand-alone Universal Monsters Park or Universal Wizarding World park as regional theme parks 15-20yrs down the line. Because Epic Universe is so modular I could see them shutting down a land shipping across the country to one of their regional locations while they the build the replacement in Orlando.
    Universal Kids Frisco is 30 acres. The land in epic universe are ~15 acres. If they decide to do an adult regional park they can fit two lands in a park the size of the kids park.

    • @UmmYeahOk
      @UmmYeahOk Рік тому +1

      I believe that HTTYD could potentially be one of the expansion lands if this park becomes successful. Otherwise, it would take over Camp Cretaceous, as I feel that it’s only there because kids like dinosaurs, and adults like Jurassic Park, but neither care much about some Netflix series. It just seems like an odd IP to theme an entire land around. Disney themed a ride off a 1989 show, which actually was popular in its day, and only now recently was closed, (Gadget’s Go Coaster), but can you imagine an entire land based on Rescue Rangers?
      Also, Epic Universe is 750 acres, so I am not sure what you believe to be 15 acres, but Universal owns 97 acres of the Frisco property, which is bigger than DCA and smaller than DLR, so it’s still an impressive size.
      Also also, there currently is vast amounts of empty pasture land just north of there, so even if a decade from now, if they wanted to build a second park or something, they could. It’s also a 31 minute drive from DFW airport, or 45 minutes if you avoid the tolls.

      @@UmmYeahOk each land in epic universe: Harry Potter, how to train your dragon, monsters, etc. is ~15 acres. About the size of Galaxy’s Edge in DLP. • @UmmYeahOk
      @UmmYeahOk Рік тому

      @@genappithy thanks for the clarification. Epic is clearly going to be “epic,” so 15 acres for each land makes much more sense.
      While the initial phase is just 30 acres, I could see the two expansion lands bringing it to 50. And if it was necessary for a parking garage, they could bring that number to 60 or 70 acres. But I can’t imagine growing to that level without actually targeting families instead of just little kids.
      My daughter loved Wizarding World more as a 7yo when we went than as an a 9yo, but those rides are too intense IMO, other than the hippogriff. Universal would have to expand into other nonDreamworks IP if they wanted to do something like that though. They would also have to adhere to local agreements that was mentioned in the video. I am not sure if that land has officially been annexed by Frisco yet. Even if it has, the border wouldn’t be too far from there to build outside of the district if they no longer want to agree with their promised proposal.

      From stuff that's probably going to be leaving soon even though this was iterated back when it was announced the hole and particularly for epic universe is called Super Nintendo World and that while phase one has Mario characters they expect to expand to other popular IP and the decades go on. The rumored next expansions for a potential Phase 2 and phase 3 are Legend of Zelda and Splatoon respectively while having possible unique endeavors such as Metroid, Pokemon, Animal Crossing and stuff be unique to different theme parks depending on regional needs. Out of all the theme parks epic universe is probably going to have the most basically being a mini theme park I'm nothing but Nintendo properties because while Beijing is probably eventually going to get Super Nintendo World outside of the Mario stuff it's probably going to be much different due to them having to evaluate what the Chinese market actually likes is Nintendo expand their IP'sin the region.

    Northern Frisco’s fields development is called “a city within a city”
    It seems very special and unique so that it should have something very different
    ( special & unique ) from Frisco, surrounding cities and all other Texas cities.
    News from Austin, Houston and other Texas cities mentioned about
    That Universal Studio theme park finally comes to Texas beyond
    California and Florida. It implies that Texas is a well-regard state and it is Texas’s
    pride because only Texas and already famous Las Vegas strip are considered by
    Universal Studio.
    Universal Studio theme parks and Disneyland theme parks are only available in
    Very few world class “who-is-who” cities so that it can make this “a city within a city”
    very special. On the other hand, This planned Frisco theme park focusing on
    Small kids Is unique among all world-wide Universal Studio theme parks and other
    Good brand theme parks.
    So, in my opinion, this Universal Studio small kids theme park is absolutely necessary
    to “a city within a city”.

    Pretty much solidified everything I said about it (as opposed to everything I guess about the big parks!!). Still up in the air is the name. I said before DreamWorks __________ is too limiting. Camp Cretaceous is technically Universal AND DreamWorks, but Jurassic Everything is definitely a Universal brand. Plus, I just can't see them ignoring the Minions. #1 kids movie of 2022! Biggest animated franchise. They aren't going to leave that much merch on the table! (There's a lot of mysteriously-empty space in the concept art, all right in the middle. Did they scrub out the biggest two lands so there could be some surprise in the future? Yeah, maybe the Minions not being here lends credence to the whole DreamWorks Park idea, but Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon aren't here either, and they're both bigger than Madagascar or Trolls.) Anyhow, I think Universal Kids is a good name. Not great, but it gets two important points across:
    1) This is a Universal park.
    2) These are Universal characters.
    3) Don't expect scary stuff.
    That said, Universal KidZone is better.
