Where would you build the next smaller Universal park or year-round haunt?
I’d think that New York or Seattle would work well. Need more parks in those areas
I could see something like this in the Midwest, we have quite a few "Amusement Parks" but few theme parks.
Colorado doesn't have much theme park wise so maybe there
Colorado
Europe please!!!! London or Paris or Barcelona anywhere in Europe! We need Universal park in Europe!!!!!!!!!!
this is the kind of local planning nitty gritty details that people don't even think about but are operating in the background of most theme parks. fascinating stuff
they really got this thing planned out well. impressive
The opposite of Disney
@@Peter-sd9vrIf Disney keeps blue skying for their US parks(The Asian Disney parks are the only ones actually getting things done), Universal will definitely surpass them by the end of the decade.
@@Emplordxiii agreed
Universal has been going hard on letting people know they’ve got the shit together regarding theme parks.
I love the idea of smaller parks that focus on one aspect of Universals IP. It would be cool to have a smaller park somewhere in the Midwest that would be like the Universal Studios park in Orlando, old time Hollywood with a monsters section and a bunch of indoor stuff to do so that when winter hits there is still plenty to do.
If this is successful, I could see it being replicated in lots of places. Europe is desperate for some Universal parks. Bring it on! 😁
what I wouldn't give for a Nintendo World in Europe...
There buying portaventura
@@SunstatePilotIs that 100% confirmed though?? I've heard rumors for a while, but not much else.
They should take over London Resorts company and build one there. An indoor theme park about this size would work well in the UK close to London.
If there’s ever a Universal Park in Europe, then it should definitely have a Harry Potter area.
I'm always more fascinated by the infrastructure that supports a theme park than by the theme park itself, so this was a perfect update!
Since this is the kids and family resort their Wizarding World should be The Weasley’s House/The Burrow! A dark ride through the burrow and maybe a kiddie coaster with the cars that are made to look like the Weasley’s flying car
Ok I just came up with the entire park in the last hour bouncing off this idea. With areas and attractions based solely off of existing universal theme park licenses and NBCUniversal IP:
The main gate should be called the schoolyard (a Main Street USA area themed to a children’s schoolhouse with chalk drawings of universal characters on the wall)
The lands should be Sesame Street, Bikini Bottom, a Dreamworks/Illumination crossover area which will take up most of the parks lands, the Wizarding world at the Weasley’s burrow, and a parent’s corner of the park with no rides but some shows and restaurants based off on NBC properties.
I live in this area, I think the park will be a great success, however, I think its a major fail on behalf of Frisco to notate that there shall be no "dark ride" attractions allowed. The state severely lacks innovative dark ride attractions and this would be a major miss by the city and Universal. Hopefully, they can get this worked out prior to opening to ensure that is reconsidered.
I don’t believe there are any restrictions against dark rides, only that the mayor stated he didn’t believe the park would open with one. But plans have been evolving, so you never know!
I guess they just don't want any thrill rides that would attract teenagers/ thrill seekers. They want the park to remain family friendly, and the surrounding fields west development to be classy, aka boring and safe.
I can try to find the statement, but dark rides are not permitted per the plans/city restrictions@@ThemeParkStop
I asked the mayor about this on his post, and he said that any dark rides the park offers would be gentle and family-friendly, so nothing like Spider-Man or Forbidden Journey.
@@jorgearnoldson3107 Thanks for the info! It definitely doesn’t appear that there are any restrictions against that type of attraction within the special permit itself. Thanks again!
Hopefully with newer plans they will get a dark ride or two. Frisco is hot, they need some air-conditioned areas to cool off.
Yeah, this seems very similar to the original development of the first USA Legoland, Legoland California, which I watched throughout its five year development between 1994-1999 as I have lived only about 10 minutes away from the park site since 1990…While the park didn’t open with the hotel, it always had expansion built in to its original 50 acre park site (and has now been filled out by two hotels, a water park and an aquarium)…my kids were 2 and 6 when the park opened and we basically LIVED at this park for a solid seven years, so, if Universal does this concept right, like Legoland did, they’ve got a Really solid goldmine here! (As there are now sister parks to the California park in Florida and New York)
My theory is the expansion plot for this project could be for a water park add on like Legoland offers!
Once they announced Dreamworks to replace Kid Zone at USF, along with the new Villain Con attraction that just opened, I immediately started to wonder if they're developing clone attractions for both areas. Villian Con checks all the boxes for what is planned (and allowed by the city) for Frisco.
I was at the announcement in Frisco, and it is so weird seeing myself in the footage. Anywho, great video!! I’m so excited for Frisco to get some more kid-oriented activities
I said it from the get-go that the Minions are 100% going to be in this park. The Rise of Gru was the FIFTH film in the series and it's made the most money. Very few series increase value as they move beyond the first sequel. Also, that boat ride in the concept art is yellow and blue, just like a Minion. It makes total sense that they would be the first things you see when you enter. Also, the area behind the boat ride was mysteriously empty in the art, which is NOT going to happen in a theme park. The Minions are literally going to be front and center.
It will be interesting to see who gets the boot, though. While it's a kiddie park, there does need to be interest for parents. Adults like the Minions. And to a lesser degree, they are into the other Illuminations and DreamWorks properties. Camp Cretaceous? Not so much. But what would be better? Nintendo and Harry Potter certainly won't be allowed to exist here. Dora is long in the tooth. Of the non-Universal properties, SpongeBob has the best chance of replacing something. Adults like those characters. (Norwegian Cruise Lines has the SpongeBob characters and at the meet 'n' greets 80% of the people in line were adults. And, YES, I was one of them!) SpongeBob probably lends itself to flat rides more than any other property. The argument against this is they'd have to share profits, but there would be a lot of profits to share once they start selling Krusty Burgers.
Thanks for the updates Alicia!
Thank you. Enjoy your updates
Crazy how over half of the land will be just for parking #Murica
Given its location in Texas, not a lot of rail or other mass transit to the area.
The number of large cities within a day's drive of this park is ridiculous: Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, New Orleans, Shreveport, Little Rock, Bentonville, Jackson (MS), Memphis, Wichita and Kansas City are within an 8-hour drive. If you expand to a 10-hour radius you pick up places like Albuquerque, El Paso, Birmingham, Saint Louis and Nashville. Oh, and then there's nearly 8 million people in the DFW metroplex. This park should live quite well off the drive-in crowd.
At least with this project, each guest vehicle realistically is going to represent at least 3 people, if not 4 or more by targeting families with children.
If Universal starts seeing a significant fly-in crowd from places further afield, Universal could invest in an airport shuttle from DFW and/or DAL. But I really think Uni wants to capture the crowd who is coming to DFW as part of their overall vacation; 68 Million people visit the Metroplex annually.
Annoying parking minimum mandates ruin lots of projects.
catch me offering to take the kids i babysit here just so i can experience it lmao
It’s a win win situation
I'm so excited for this! I'm really close to Frisco. I went to the noise ordinance panel before it was approved. The team was fabulous presenting.
This seems like a very interesting change in the structure of theme parks. I hope it's successful! I think something in the Midwest, northeast and northwest would be great. Something in Oregon/Washington, maybe something near ish to Chicago...
Great coverage!
Universal needs to wise up and give the people what they want in a theme park... Bikini bottom and have spongebobs neighborhood, the krusty krab to eat at and the chum bucket as a ride entrance 😂😍
In USJ, a deceptively simple sound stage houses the impressive Snoopy Studios play area. I always see families laughing as they make the comic books and movies come to life, and without exaggerating I can say it reminds me of the old Image Works upstairs in Epcot’s Imagination pavilion. But of course there’s no rainbow tunnel or Figment. ;-)
I wish Universal could buy the Snoopy IP away from Knotts/Cedar Fair in America.
Thanks! Please keep us updated on the progress of this theme park
🎢 The Universal Studios Texas venture is shaping up impressively! 🚀 It's fascinating to see their meticulous planning and vision for this new park. Can't wait to experience the magic they're bringing to Frisco! 🏰🌟
Incredibly cool to see giant, fun projects come together from the most micro, logistical perspective there is. It's where the magic begins. Thanks as always for making these videos!
Very detailed and I wouldn't expect anything less. Orlando has been successful with their parks.
Universal Studios Over Texas
🥁
Alicia makes the most informative theme park videos on UA-cam! Theme Park Stop is the best, no competition!
Looks like they got all of the logistics planned out that most people wouldn't even think about when building a theme park. My brother took my nephew to Universal Orlando. He was 7, and there wasn't a lot there he could ride. Great to see they're building a park for kids.
I think this park will surely have a Nintendo property in there some where. Something like Animal Crossing would be a big win for the kiddos.
So awesome
Universal: We’re making a 3rd park in Florida with a Nintendo land in 2025, a permanent attraction in Area 15 and a family park in Texas.
Disney: CHINA RIDE IN FLORIDA, DELAYED BUT OPENED, MONEY.
Universal probably should have bought all the land they could surrounding this for future expansions.
I bet they’ve already done so under another name.
I bet you're right@@werewolflover8636
I live right by Frisco. This should be interesting 👍 I wish it wasn't just for kids though 😅
I wouldn't expect "licensors" to appear in the Frisco park (unless it's for the expansion) - but keeping it open like that could spell big things for their hopeful other parks. Namely in that it would allow for more parks to have more unique lands (instead of disney's clone everything strategy)
I wish it would be for adults too from where I live it is too far to drive to Florida or California.
6:13 bruh is that a pool literally shaped like Texas?!?!?! thats hilarious
Good bye Disney. It's Universal's turn🤠🤠
Good luck getting in. 97 acres is not enough. They will need to buy the next lot over.
A Secret Life of Pets ride here seems a perfect and natural fit.
Holy crap those parking minimums and some of those other city requirements are kind of annoying. Good thing the park is still moving along.
Looks like universal mean business - will be interesting to see if / when Disney finally take notice!
I do find it a little sad that attractions without an IP bolted on don't even seem to be a consideration now.....when you look at the likes of the original lost continent in IoA or the original Animal Kingdom in Disney it shows what can be created when creative designers arent limited by an IP. But I guess thats just the era we're in right now!
RMC coasters have a height requirement of 48", so thrill rides are possible ;-)
I wonder if Universal has plans for opening a park in Europe...
I think Universal Studios understands that it can have many parks but not necessarily that big. It's not that they require a huge, giant infrastructure for them to exist and be called Universal. They can make smaller, local parks. But they transmit the same magic and quality as their parks in Orlando. I think a good example is Universal Singapore, which is less than 50% Island of Adventure. The idea of going big or nothing is not profitable today, not only because of operating costs but also because of what consumers can pay. We can see how this park model (under a big big name as Universal) can be more accessible and targeting specific markets, such as children in this case.
Funny that you should mention Universal Singapore, given that they have an entire land dedicated to the Shrek franchise, and up until last year, an entire land dedicated to Madagascar, as well. Both of these are rumored to be at the new Frisco park, based on the conceptual art.
Way too hot in Texas in the summer and pretty cold in the winter. But given it can never be anything more than a kid's park, maybe it's meant to be a partial-day park even with the really short hours. Also, one of the biggest reasons for building anything in Texas is the perceived less regulated nature of Texas, but there are a lot of restrictions and requirements from the Texas government.
It’s not Texas who is making the demands it’s the city of Frisco! It’s completely asinine! If I had been Universal I’d said get bent and moved to somewhere else in Texas or another state like Tennessee, Georgia, or the Carolina’s where the business would be welcomed with open arms by both the government and the public.
@@werewolflover8636 Generally, companies don't like having to put their employees in poor living conditions, so that excludes Tennessee, Georgia, the Carolinas, and most of the rest of the South as well. Texas would be the best bet. Being friendly to business doesn't really mean a suitable environment for business. The way the state operates is a more significant motivator. That's why Oklahoma can't get any new business despite offering up massive tax breaks and credits.
Maybe along with the DreamWorks attractions they do a small Pokémon land at this park 1st to put the new park on the map and have a massive draw. Then the bigger Pokémon land with more attractions at studios will open a couple of years later once the Simpsons rights expire.
So are they sticking to a strictly younger age park? Or are there now pressures from locals to make this a proper Universal park? I live close to the area and all of my friends who live in the area do not want a kid only park. The locals essentially want a proper park if they are going to have to deal with a theme park.
It will be a kid park for sure. The agreement with the city is locked in. Also, a proper theme park would need to be several hundred acres. At least 500 if you want something like Orlando. Epic Universe is about that if you include everything.
If you want adult targeted rides, go to Six Flags. The theming is either that of one of the nations that once ruled over the state, or DC comics, for some reason. Yeah, there are some little kiddie rides, but they’re really nothing more than carnival rides.
I think this is mostly have something to do with the demand of the city council. Especially the dark rides one.
@@piereandreturner2818I assumed “no dark rides” was something Universal announced, not something the council demanded. Noise, eyesores, and traffic were the only real complaints residents had, some of which were councilmen living in that neighborhood. Dark rides don’t effect any of this. An indoor family coaster (a dark ride) would be better for those nearby residents than an outdoor family roller coaster, as it keeps noise levels down, and if visible from the street, less tacky.
@@UmmYeahOk It was something that Universal announced, and it was also something that appeared in the agreement with the city council. It's just weird why Universal would promise that there would be no dark ride if it came from Universal which is why I think it would make more sense if the idea was proposed as part of the agreement to change the zoning of that area by either the councilmen or even the mayor himself. I did not live in that area and am not familiar with the law, but at least that's how I understand it. If you live there or are more familiar with what actually happened, correct me if I am wrong. Unless I misunderstood something.
I still scratch my head over this project. Is this like a sample to entice people to eventually go to one of the coastal resorts? As a stand alone experience I can see parents getting bored pretty quickly.
As a stand alone I think a mini Universal Studios like what they have in Singapore would be better and appeal to all ages. This kids concept would have made more sense as a mini park within their other resorts.
This is no different than what Legoland offers and those parks thrive all around the world.
This metroplex has had a Legoland discovery center for over a decade now, a Peppa Pig World of Play for about half a decade, and just broke ground on their second Peppa Pig Theme park. We took our daughter to the Legoland discovery center, and she loved it so much that yes, we did in fact decide to go to the real one in CA. This demographic is too young for school, so affluent families are more than willing to find entertainment for them on a regular basis.
I am glad to see that Universal updated its targeted demographic from 3-9 to 3-11. This means they’re targeting older kids as well, something that the competition isn’t doing. Also, not far from here they had a Jurassic Park experience that was so popular, they extended it, and later this year is having a Harry Potter experience, which also is selling out. The demand is there.
They aren't interested in appealing to all ages. If you put a full-size Universal park in Texas, then it's going to cannibalize some guests from the existing parks because they're all easy to get to from Texas. This Legoland/Sesame Place market is growing and Universal wants in before Disney wakes up. It's ridiculously cheap to build these things, comparatively speaking. $550M for an entire park from the ground up? It cost more than $400M to build the Harry Potter land in USH!!! This is going to be a no-dark-ride, no-E-ticket experience, and it will rake in the cash.
@@kevinbhieey9188minimum wage is also still $7.25 here, strongly non union, and an entire workforce is literally at the border begging for work visas/sponsorships.
The whole purpose is catering to families with very young kids… plus the city isn’t going to allow a full size theme park as stated multiple times.
Not a bad idea overall for Universal. The parking takes up a considerable amount of space and affecting the space for the actual theme park. Hasn't anyone thought to utilize vertical carousal parking structures for that amount of space? for every 2-3 car slot you could get 10 cars in the structure, plus it wouldn't be that difficult to get your car out. What if you want to add more to the theme park but are limited to the amount of space you have without purchasing more. That's just my thought.
If they really felt the need to make the park bigger they could always pull a Universal Studios and build a parking garage but there's probably something to do with sightlines in the deal with the city
Well every other Universal park has parking structures. But Frisco apparently doesn’t wanna even be able to see the park… but a giant loud road is still alright for some reason.
Some people argue the benefits of parking lots vs garages all the time, but it’s just the perception in this country that gets in the way.
Disney should be worried
Sad that parking takes up so much of the land. I know parking structures are expensive but it frees up so much room.
Blame Parking minimum mandates and the residents that are opposed to the park.
I SUPER look forward to hearing from you Alicia. I am a huge fan... alas I have never been to Universal anything. We need more parks!
You really think Comcast is going to build two new parks at once? Disney did that but only because OLC was dropping tons of money on TDLR. That 2026 opening is so unrealistic. Especially with how high the bar is set for EU and all of the new tech going into it
How do they have the money for this and epic and hhn and vegas
Butterbeer sales I assume lol
@@ThemeParkStop😂😂
What are they waiting for pokemon lands.
Judging off the infrastructure, the Jurassic area might be an old school Jurassic Park area.
Camp C fell off post season 3.
That and Ted Cruz and co are gonna go ballistic when they find out about season 5.
All the CC stuff aside, the infrastructure is giving me Jp1 vibes.
First Epic and now this, what's with all the parking lots recently? They take up so much unnecessary space, especially considering how well Universal has already implemented garages in their first two parks. Is it too expensive or something?
Costs. Parking garages are extremely expensive while parking lots are cheap. Till they need the land a parking lot just makes more sense.
@@werewolflover8636 I see, well that's unfortunate; I really like the garages since they allow for shade and minimize walking distance to the parks.
It’s because plenty of places in the country have enforced minimum parking mandates.
The Frisco residents also don’t want to be able to see the park from their home, that probably includes parking structures. But they have no problem with loud gint roads… Really they’re just anti-theme park people.
kinda weird they are saving the smaller theme park for after epic universe opens, since smaller theme parks usually take less time to build. i know construction for this new park is expected to begin in 2024, but it won't be open until at least 2026
Sad. Looks like a bad location. Way to close to neighborhoods. My kids are grown so no interest in this park. Texas would be a great location for a real Universal park.
It’s going to be super small
So we’re not getting a 50’ tall guillotine? 😢
If it’s a ride, then no, but as a regular theming structure as seen the in the Shrek area part of the concept art, then yes.
Frisco city council is being ridiculous with these demands! Why on earth would any city not want a Universal Park that will mean $$$ tax dollars and will bring in tourists that will spend not only in the park but the local economy as well! Everyone wins and many cities around the world are begging Universal to build a park in their city!
Alicia is the best!
When I Tell You Universal Are not messing around with Epic Universe I Mean they aren’t messing around at all they are hitting Disney Right we’re it hurts and they know exactly what they are doing and are loving every second of it. Not Only are they Building a Theme Park in Texas Which Disney does not have. But they are also making it a Kid Friendly Park. Which is Disney Territory.
Good! Disney needs to be knocked down from their high horse and at long last a there’s a company providing services and experiences like Disney USED to be!
If they dont st least have a couple of dark rides...idk
according to the mayor of frisco, there won't be any
@@baconlemonade4333yeah, I too find this odd. I also wonder what they define as a “dark ride.” Technically. A carousel inside a building is a dark ride, something that the mall in Frisco already has. Those stupid mall trains count as well.
If you looked at the DreamWorks section of Motiongate Dubai, literally EVERY ride is a dark ride, because they are all indoors.
I think the city council have limited understanding of a dark rides in theme park.
@@piereandreturner2818maybe all the buildings serve as heated and air conditioned queue areas… …because we have some pretty extreme weather, which is one of the reasons Six Flags is rarely open. At lease Six Flags has trees that were planted in the 60s. Much of Frisco, like much of North Dallas, is new, and I don’t know how big the trees Universal plans on planting are going to be, but it will take about 20 years to see any real shade benefit from them. A lot of the big trees Frisco has now, were planted in the 90s. Trees in that neighborhood boardering it, are about 15 yeasts old.
looks like 2/3 parking and 1/3 theme park.
Universal’s Lone Star Park?
Too confusing. Lone Star Park is already a thing in DFW. But I do like the Texas shaped pond by the boat ride in the concept art.
I wonder why Universal would need to use character's they don't own. They have Nintendo, Minions and the Dream Work characters along with Jurassic Park more then enough kid friendly IPs for this size of a park.
They don’t own Nintendo characters, so that would be an example of a licensed property.
That makes more sense. Was confused on why after making one of the biggest animated films ever you'd not want to keep using that IP. Thank you for the response @@ThemeParkStop
@@jerrod7361 They do have the theme park rights to use Nintendo characters, but would have to expand their existing licensing contract to be able to use them at this new park or any future locations.
Harry Potter is HUGE! It’s such a big deal that it’s in 4 locations so far (Singapore is honestly too small), and the fact that Orlando is getting 3 potterlands shows you how important this WB IP is to them. I know that every time I go, everyone just makes a bee line to the back of the park where Wizarding World is, ignoring the rest of the park, which, honestly, makes almost everything walk on in the mornings.
honestly the park itself seems kind of small
were tired of six flags! its about time!
Ugh, it's giving me Hard Rock Park vibes, that Hotel is gonna be empty, I'm disappointed, like Quibi disappointed.
Okay I don’t think you understand why hard rock park failed…
Spongebob Land PLS
But if parents are paying for it, there should be stuff for them
It’s a family park with a target demo of very young kids. Are you just saying that because there’s no major rides?
TRUCKERS PASSING THROUGH DALLAS
Please please VeggieTales
Universal are making Disney look embarrassing
This just doesn’t seem like something that is sustainable. I can’t imagine people wanting to go back multiple times.
That just shows how little you know.
@@shadycharacter94 Just a thought, not dying on the hill that it’s going to be a failure. I’d be happy to be wrong because the more of this type thing the better. I do hope they include dark rides.
@@nickn271There’s always going to be children and there’s many parks around the country already that are designed just for kids. Lego Land is a good example and they’re doing very well for themselves with many locals being pass holders. There’s definitely money to be made here!

Well I’m not going to Texas because it’s hot and I’m a tween and this park is for kids for elementary not me
At the rate they’re going they’ll end up becoming the next Six Flags.
What in the heck are you talking about?
@@Red_Ryan_Red The rate of expansion.
They gave no thought whatsoever for public transit and especially mass transit, which means the park is not future proof.
