This shows that your island doesn't need to be "perfect" to get those 5 stars.
I got 5 stars randomly while trying to complete my rock garden. I had so many mannequins scattered all over my island that I could barely walk around, and when I got done I had some weird looking white flowers on my island (which I later found out were Lily of the Valleys).
No it does not, I have seen a couple of five star island tours which I felt the island wasn’t that great. I have been blown away by a few though.

i'm still a bit unhappy with the tree hard cap that flat-out prevents you from getting five stars. i designed my island to have a long, winding pathway up the mountain that gets more rugged as you go, but the game didn't like all the untamed, overgrown wilderness. i even added cute furniture and paving and fencing to make it feel at least a bit traveled. but, no, isabelle just had to get lost in the woods on the way to dobie's house, and she just had to tank our rating because she missed her favorite talk show. smh

Same for me. I went for a "cabin in the woods" theme, so my island is filled to the brim with trees to give off the effect that you're in a forest. For some reason Nintendo decided that alot of trees is a bad thing and the excuse? Villagers will get lost...
Even though i have made a clear path that is fenced out and LIT UP BY GARDEN LANTERNS.
Anyways, I don't really care for 5 stars, as long as the island looks fine to me then i really dont care. But i find this questionable on the developer's part. This design choice regarding the amount of trees limits what kinds of themes you want to do for your island and for people who DO care about a 5 star rating, that kind of sucks. Boo, nintendo..

I have been stuck at four stars forever and all the brat keeps telling me is plant more fruit trees and saplings I do that and then she says water your flowers and make them bloom everywhere's, I plant more flowers and I will see how this goes LOL.
How is she telling you to do the furniture though? If she's telling you to take the island resources and make furniture and she wants you to actually do DIY recipe furniture not just buy some with your nook miles or from Knox cranny

She just kept telling me more flowers more flowers so my sister went and dug up a whole bunch of her extra flowers but we're growing crazy and she didn't want them where they had grown and she brought them to my island and planted them on my cliffs but we had already done some placing of a whole bunch of musical instruments and a microphone stand and a microphone and chairs and all that to have like a concert area and she had told me when she did that that she might've overcrowded them. Well then she finally told me Isabel finally told me that everything looked good that my island had such a high rating that there really wasn't anything else I could do and that there was just this one little itsy-bitsy concern LOL and then she said that there was too much clutter around so my sister went and fixed the musical instruments and spaced them out A little bit and then we went and checked my rating again and it was a five star. I wasn't going to do any more flowers because my sister said I had more flowers than her and she didn't understand why Isabell was complaining about flowers. But when she went and got a bunch of hers that were already grown and put them on my cliffs Bam I shot up to a five.

Clutter only counts items dropped on the ground, not on furniture. I have 30+ “dropped” diys in stalls and on furniture throughout my island, and Isabelle still gives it a 5-star rating!
Also, as you may have noticed from her video, buried items also have no effect on your island rating. If you wanna avoid having dropped items, you can bury em instead! I have a little field of buried turnips and I think it’s cute bc it makes it look like I’m harvesting them when I dig em up. :)
Does dropped fruit count as clutter? I like leaving some on the floor in my orchard
@@Luxenya Yes. If you put it on a zen cushion or table it doesn't. Although, I suggest making a fruit stand? Either way, you're okay with having SOME dropped items.

The first time I was able to get onto the cliff I found out I had a whole ton of pink lilies surrounding the heart-shaped pond purely because of my luck with rain. I was amazed at how many of them there were. I named the area the Lily-Heart Pond.
I hate how you have to place a shit ton of furniture and trees just for the terraforming to even begin.
I'm not a fan of the 5 star islands on UA-cam that all basically look like art sculptures full of dreamies. I like my quaint little village

I found that in fact, putting loose items on a table or somewhere that isn't the ground doesn't effect your score. My island still spawning lily of the valley while I had a free DIY table and put my crafting resources on wood stools. Even when I ask Isabelle, she makes no comments about "clutter" or "trash" on the island.

It’s SO much money, I hate doing turnips but it’s literally the only good way I’ve found to be able to do anything ever.
I hate having flowers EVERYWHERE and dropped to 4 stars whenever I took away the ones I hadn't designated in beds. To combat the need for flowers and my hatred of seeing them clutter my island, I planted them all along the back of cliffs and stopped them from spreading with Lily of the Valley plants. Flowers exist for the 5 star and I don't have to look at them. Win-win.
You somehow mastered the art of making content that can appeal to both new and experienced players. I found your channel looking for info on friendship levels and ended up binging a ton of your vids. No one really "needs" a 5 star rating to build a beautiful island. Still, getting that rating is pretty straightfoward. Just fill up your island with flowers, decorations and trees, and don't leave objects around. I got my 5 star ranking much faster than I thought.

I’m glad because my island actually looks good and has paths and bridges and inclines and I can walk around easily and I’m pretty sure I have a 5 star island. I have 4 lily of the valleys (might be more because my orchard is on the second elevation and it is hard to see what grows there) and it’s nice to have golden roses to decorate with and lily of the valleys to put in villager’s properties

OMG I TOOK 3 HOURS GETTING RID OF MY FLOWERS I HAD LIKE 200 BLUE ROSES
i have a ton of ugly pansies all over my island and its a pain trying to remove them not to mention you have to clear out your inventory and spend tons of bells on new shovels. man i wish that the clean up service took care of flowers.
Get a friend to help you remove them!! I removed them all myself and it took HOURS. You got this

I got to a five star island without even trying and that’s not me bragging I didn’t even check in with Isabelle after I got 3 stars, I only went and checked after I saw a lily of the valley. I only have 1 bridge and no inclines. I assume it’s because of all the random crap I have placed everywhere because my storage is full of clothes.

My advice: Maybe try and get more Bridges / Inclines for a start, customise any items you have 2 or more of on your Island, and make sure to make "Themed" Areas.

covering up holes with your shovel doesn’t lessen its durability

your shovel will only break when you dig stuff up. holes don't count
The problem with clicking Y is if you are close to flowers you will pick them instead of filling the hole.

Edit: So I got tired of 4 stars so I made operation lazy 5 stars. I would take all my furniture and fencing, then just lay it down. (I have a large empty field in a part of my island so I put all the furniture there) then I got 5 stars. It feels so cheap, yet good

I've been drifting between 2 stars and 3 stars. I think it's because I've mainly been terraforming instead of placing furniture and scenery, but I'm really happy with what I have so far and I'm working on placing more trees and creating micro areas!

Hey a bit of advice... go to Nooks Cranny and buy about 20 of every flower lol
I got three by putting down flowers and placing TONS of stone tables that I crafted
also pick up any trash/weeds you have lying around!

You need more villagers. When u have 8 you’ll get another star. Bury 99k bells in the golden spots, and buy everything from able and books cranny. After I upgraded those two and have 8 peeps you should be at or close to 3 stars

I filled my island with identical manaquins to try to move my rocks, I time skipped and fond a lilly of the valley and asked Isabelle suddenly boom, 5 stars! (Plus I only just got 4 stars like 2 days ago!!!

I literally restarted my island yesterday, it was difficult to come to that decision but I did it. It was insane but I already got Blathers on the first day so that was awesome!
I understand how FREAKING HARD IT IS TO GET 3 STARS, so here’s my guide:
Flowers rly are a big deal, so I planted some on each villagers house (I always have 10 villagers btw)
I only needed two bridges and 1 incline
Make little spots for furniture and crap
She’s KEPT saying I had too much stuff laying around, so I picked everything up, yes EVERYTHING. Don’t leave anything out on the ground.
Just keep doing what Isabel says, there’s no easy way, which is annoying, YOU CAN DO THIS!!
