  • In this video we visit Grattan Street situated in Melbourne's inner north. It's an important street situated adjacent to Melbourne University and the future Parkville Station on the Metro Rail Tunnel which will open in 2025. Grattan Street is served by numerous bus routes including several high-frequency university express shuttles. This includes the 401 between North Melbourne and Parkville which is one of the most frequent bus routes in Melbourne; running as often as every 2-4 minutes during peak hours. Other routes along Grattan Street includes the 402, 403, 505 & 546. We also see a bus on route 202 which terminates around the corner on Swanston Street.
Grattan Street was closed for road vehicles since 2019 to enable construction of Parkvilel Station, and only reopened in June 2024. The return of buses to Grattan Street also saw routes 505 & 546 upgraded which now run every 20 minutes on weekdays and every 40 minutes on weekend.
Routes 401, 402 & 403 are operated by Transit Systems. Most buses we see are Volvo B12BLE's with Volgren 'CR228L' bodies in the Route 401 livery. We also see various other Volvo B12BLE's including some with the older Volgren 'CR221L' bodies, and some Volvo B7RLE's. We also see some ARCC Viking Hydrolite hydrogen buses on route 403. Routes 505 & 546 are operated by Dysons, buses seen include a Scania K280UB and Scania K310UB's with Volgren 'Optimus' bodies.
